Epilogue - Nash
Five Years Later
Today is Cora’s college graduation day. She took most of her classes online, but we wanted to surprise her and throw a graduation party.
Our four-year-old twin girls are wearing matching purple dresses.
Their usually messy red hair is tamed with a braid running down each of their backs.
It’s not the most intricate braid like their mother usually does for them, but I think they look good.
I’ve been watching videos online, and I think my braids look pretty good, even if I do say so myself.
“Daddy! Daddy! Can we go outside and play?" The twins look up at me with matching emerald eyes, much like their mother's. I'm usually a sucker for their pleading, but not today.
“No, girls. You need to stay clean for Mommy’s big day. Let me grab your brother, and we’ll go to Aunt Sara’s café.”
I walk into the nursery and grab Nash Jr. He’s the spitting image of me with his dark hair and blue eyes, and just like his sisters, he has me wrapped around his little finger.
Sara achieved her dream of opening her café. We're surprising Cora there pretending to look at the new edition floor plans since Cora is part owner of the café. They used the money from selling their childhood home as a down payment on the café.
The café has been so popular with townspeople and tourists that they have paid off the mortgage early and are already turning a profit.
I get the kids wrangled into their car seats and drive into town.
We arrive ten minutes before Cora. The kids all manage to stay clean as the woman of the hour walks through the door.
The twins jump up and down on the booth seat, yelling surprise as Cora walks to our table.
Nash Jr’s chubby little legs and arms reach for his mother once he sees her.
I stand and pull Cora into my arms with a kiss, “I love you, baby.”
“I love you too, Nash.” I can see in her eyes that she’s telling the truth. It took me a long time to believe Cora genuinely wanted me for myself, but now that I do, I can’t believe I ever doubted her. Her love and the love of our children are more than I ever imagined.
