Chapter 52
The stinging rain drenched her. But she didn’t move. Or maybe she couldn’t.
Grace didn’t know where she was, but it felt like the clouds were so low, she could reach out and touch them.
A flash of lightning reflected off something. A mirror? No, glass, a windshield. She was surrounded by cars.
She realized she was on the roof level of the parking garage beside the hospital.
But why was she up here? Had she been sleepwalking?
Another bolt of lightning crashed down, spotlighting the outstretched fingers of a shadowy figure.
Habaek, she thought, taking a stumbling step back.
“Habaek!” another voice shouted. She turned around just as Hae stepped into the rain, his sword bright in his hand. His skin awash in light. “Stop this now.”
Grace tried to call for Hae. Tried to tell him to turn back. But she had no voice. It was swallowed by the wind before it could reach any ears.
Habaek laughed, and she realized neither of them could see her. “Why would I do that when I have you right where I want you?”
Hae raised his sword. “Then come and get me.”
