Golden Omegaverse Guide
GOLDEN OMEGAVERSE GUIDE
This novel takes place in an alternate universe similar to our’s. Much of the world remains the same, except every human also has a designation .
Designations fall into three categories: alphas, betas, and omegas. This book does not contain shifters and/or werewolves. See below for an overview on each designation, then a more detailed list organized by term.
DESIGNATIONS:
Alphas are humans who are generally more respected and seen as leadership types.
Alphas can be any gender.
They have heightened senses, and are stronger physically than other designations.
Each alpha has a scent, that can either be alluring or off-putting to others.
Biologically alphas are fine without having an omega, though lonely, as they often want to care for someone. (Even if they have no desire to have children)
Biologically male alphas have a knot , a continuous round of muscle, at the base of their penis. Biologically female alphas have the inverse, a stronger muscle inside the vagina that can lock during penetrative sex. Both of these biological traits are meant to aid in breeding.
Alphas make up 30% of the population
Alphas bleed red, but it has a silver tinted/oil-slick sheen to it.
Alphas make up a large portion of people in power in the world, as culturally it’s seen that they are the “better” by default, which leads to much abuse of power in the case of alphas.
Betas are humans, as we would understand them in this world.
They have no extra qualities.
Betas are the majority of the population, at around 65%
Betas in the goldverse have very faint scents when not around their scent match, though there are products that can (and do) enhance these scents to the levels of alphas or omegas. It always has a slight chemical tang, though, and is easy to spot.
Their blood is red, and has no sheen to it.
Omegas are humans that are often associated with meek, submissive, and calm characteristics.
Omega designations typically emerge anywhere from the ages of eighteen to twenty-five during a second puberty.
Omegas are increasingly rare, making up less than 5% of the total population .
Omegas are owned, by law, by their parents, until their ownership is “transferred” to an alpha or pack.
Biologically female omegas are often not given the choice to prevent pregnancies, with strict rules requiring an alpha signing off on them being provided birth control.
Biologically male omegas, while unable to get pregnant, are incredibly virile, and often their sperm results in a pregnancy. They are also refused birth control.
Omegas have red blood, but it has a golden/oil slick sheen to it.
Omegas are generally seen as weaker, which culturally, has meant that omegas, while being sought after, aren’t really treated seriously in any capacity. They’re said to be too prone to whims, and it’s socially accepted that any and all omegas are too emotional for any serious or leadership positions.
LIST OF TERMS:
Bark/Commands —
Alphas have a bark, or built-in command, where their word is obeyed. The bark has to be used with intent to make it work, and doesn’t work on everyone at all times.
Varying alphas might have a stronger bark than others, leading to a hierarchy within the designation where one alpha might be stronger than another. This is also true in pack systems, where there is a pack alpha, this alpha is often the most well-respected, and likely has the strongest bark.
Bonds —
Bonds occur between any alphas and any designation, though most common are alphas leaving a claim bite on betas or omegas that are their life partners.
Bonds from an alpha open up a neural pathway between the alpha and the bonded, where they can feel the other person’s emotions and general state of being. It’s a way for alphas to check on their bonded and care for them.
This neural pathway isn’t a way to read thoughts, but more intent and general mood. They can tell if their bonded is stressed/in heightened states of emotion. The bonds can be dimmed and dulled with various medicines.
Blood — unique to the goldverse
As previously mentioned, alphas have blood that, when viewed from an angle, will appear silver. The same can be said for omegas, who’s blood will appear golden. Betas have red blood that carries no sheen.
Though it has been attempted, there is currently no chemical way to replicate the sheen on the blood of alphas or omegas, making a blood test the one true, trustworthy way to ensure a person’s designation.
Claim bites (also called bond marks ) —
Alphas will get the urge to mark, or bite, their partners. These bites are binding and scar.
Bites made by alphas appear silver in color when healed, while omega bites have a golden hue.
Bonding bite marks heal faster than other injuries, by biological design.
Designation Centers —
Centers exist where alphas are paired with omegas, or where an omega’s guardians place them with a pack for life.
Culturally, there are many who do not agree with packs and think every alpha should have a single omega. It often has to do with religion believing that every alpha is “owed” their own omega, and to share one is to share your right. (Making an omega an object, rather than an actual person with wants and desires)
In the same manner, many believe that female alphas shouldn’t claim female omegas, because it, biologically, cannot result in a child. The same can be said for male alphas and male omegas, or any cross-pairing that does not want children. Breeding and population continue to be hot topics.
Designation Centers are often government affiliated, though independently run ones do exist. Alphas can buy memberships to centers to have their pack and scents listed as an option for omegas to choose from.
There are groups that speak out for Omegas and against designation centers, choosing to say that a person’s designation should be their right to disclose, and that omegas shouldn’t be the “property” of their parents until sold to an alpha (often in an exchange that contains money or other collateral).
Heat (or heat cycle ) —
A hormonal cycle that occurs in omegas, after their designation emerges with puberty.
The heat cycle happens roughly every three months, or four times in a calendar year (though changes have and do occur when hormones are tampered with).
Heats last for a week (five to seven days) and are a state of heightened sexual desire and activity, where the omega will both want comfort and sexual satisfaction.
For biologically female omegas, a heat will coincide with ovulation week if the omega is currently fertile and menstruating.
For biologically male omegas, a heat will occur roughly three to four times a year, and coincide with testosterone spikes, making the omega want to seek release.
Heat-sickness —
A flu-like precursor to a first heat, that makes omegas weaker and often accompanied by a fever. Some omegas are unlucky enough to get it multiple times/before every heat, especially if they have unbalanced hormones or are stressed prior to a heat.
Heat sickness is one of the major signs that someone is about to emerge as an omega, and is often tested for every few months.
First signs include elevated heart rate and body temperature.
Heat Spike —
When an omega is approaching their upcoming heat, flu-like symptoms will begin to present. Tiny “spikes” of symptoms will mimic a heat, often resulting in greater arousal and other various symptoms associated with the omega’s regular heat.
Symptoms that might be present include : dizziness, pain in the body, cramping, headaches, fevers, excessive sweating, chills or shaking/trembling, nausea or vomiting, heightened arousal, heightened emotions/mood swings (whether anger, anxiety, or other), sleepiness or insomnia, appetite changes, general fatigue
Knot —
A ring of muscle at the base of a biological male alpha’s penis. This muscle swells and enlarges during intercourse, with the intent to lock the penis in the vagina during sex, to keep semen inside and higher the chance of pregnancy.
Knots vary in size, shape, and the time it takes for them to go down. When flaccid, the knot is still present, but not as prominent.
Lock —
A ring of muscle inside the vagina of a biologically female alpha. This ring tightens and locks when aroused and during intercourse, keeping the penetrative object inside to higher the chance of pregnancy. Locks vary in size, shape, and rigidity.
Mannerisms —
Alphas and omegas often display animalistic mannerisms like: barking, growling, whining, whimpering, and more.
See bark for more information on commands.
Nests/Nesting —
A uniquely omega urge to build a small, enclosed space, full of warm and comforting objects.
This urge is often associated with heats, though it’s more of a comforting room that can be kept year-round of omegas to retreat to and enjoy. It’s simply a safe place for them to be.
Many packs will have a nest room or space for their eventual or current omegas to personalize, and it varies from omega to omega.
Nests normally are reserved for the omega to use, with it being common to ask permission before entering an omega’s nest, as they might not want things shifted, or scents to change.
Perfume ( scents or pheromones ) —
Biologically all humans exist with their own natural perfume or pheromones, regardless of designation.
Scents bloom and become more potent when experiencing heightened emotions, often arousal or fear.
Omegas have the most powerful perfumes, while alpha perfumes are secondary and beta perfumes are very subtle.
The scent is unique to each and every individual. Though there are certain scents that will appeal to specific individuals, these are called scent matches .
Packs —
Because the number of alphas is so high compared to the number of omegas, some alphas will “pack up” with each other, to satisfy their need to caretake and want to be surrounded by like-minded people.
This doesn’t mean they are all romantic with each other, as the relationships might be familial or platonic as well as romantic.
Packs will also tend to choose one alpha as their pack alpha or prime who is the decision maker and leader of the pack. They tend to be the strongest of the group, whether physically, or in the case of their bark.
Rut —
All alphas might be subject to entering a rut, triggered by an omega in a heat cycle.
A rut is a biological response to a heat, where the alpha goes into a similar haze of desire to mate. It doesn’t occur every heat, nor with every alpha and omega pairing, and is largely up to biological chance when tending to an omega in heat.
Alphas in a rut become highly territorial and single-minded. They are generally seen as more dangerous during this time because they have a lack of control over their own reactions.
Scenting —
Scenting is objectively one of the first ways to lay claim on an omega. An alpha will rub themselves on an omega (or imbue them with their signature scent) to show to others that they belong to an alpha before a bite.
Scenting has no permanence and products exist to suppress scents or wash them free.
Scent matches —
Scent matches are another way to describe fated mates or soulmates.
Scents will match, or pair well with each other, and in turn connections and attachments between individuals will form faster.
Scent matching is used in designation centers to find potential matches faster than meetings and interviews, because if a scent of an alpha is off-putting to an omega, it is highly unlikely they will be a match romantically.
Slick —
Slick is a natural lubricant produced by all genders of omegas that make it easier for penetration of any kind. It’s produced during a heat in excess, but is naturally existing in all omegas year round.
