Chapter 16
Sixteen
Violet
I was crabbier than normal when I went to work, frustrated from a few days stuck in the house with two men who wanted nothing to do with me. Okay—that wasn’t exactly what they said, but that was how I felt.
I knew they wanted what was best for me, but for whatever reason, they failed to realize that they were what was best for me.
Not only did they make me feel safe and comfortable, but I was also extremely attracted to both of them.
I had never been with two guys before, so I didn’t know how the whole sharing thing worked, but it couldn’t be that hard.
Maybe I would spend one night with Asher and the other with Enzo.
It seemed like they were making it into a bigger deal than it was.
The day passed quickly, but I knew my mood was obvious when I caught Capshaw across the room watching me while he shoved a hand through his hair as he talked to whoever was on the phone. An hour later, Kensy and Bella showed up.
“Hey,” I said, trying to muster as much happiness as I could as I greeted them at the register. “What can I get you guys?”
Bella frowned as Kensy tilted her head to the side, studying me for a moment while I huffed out an irritated sigh.
“I’m fine,” I muttered right as Capshaw came up and kissed Kensy in greeting.
“You don’t seem fine,” Bella responded cautiously as she continued to watch me and ignored Capshaw as he wrapped his arms around his wife.
“You really called for backup?” I asked, leaning to the side with my hands on my hips to glare at my boss.
It was a risky move, but Capshaw didn’t strike me as the kind of person to fire someone because of a slight attitude.
Plus, we had worked together often enough that I felt comfortable with him, almost as if we were friends.
“I didn’t know what else to do.” He stepped away from Kensy and lifted his hands in the air. “Trust me, between my sister and my wife, I know enough about women to know that I needed back up.”
I shook my head, leveling him with a look until he retreated to the kitchen. Thankfully, it was quiet as we had just finished with the lunch rush and wouldn’t get another one for a few hours when the dinner rush started.
“You’re dickerpated,” Kensy said, giving me a knowing look as a smirk crossed her face.
My eyebrows rose as I stared at her.
“I’m what?”
“Dickerpated.”
“What does that even mean?” I felt myself frowning as I tried to make it make sense.
“It means that you’re grumpy because you need to get some dick,” Bella announced happily as she smiled at me.
“Well, unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a cure for that, so it looks like you ladies came all the way down here for nothing.”
I hated that my tone was as sour as my mood, but thankfully, neither of them seemed bothered by it.
“There’s always a cure,” Bella assured me with a wink as Kensy leaned over the counter so she could see into the kitchen, where Capshaw was hiding.
“Hey, Jack,” Kensy called. “We’re taking Violet to go run some errands. Be sure to clock her out at the end of her shift.”
Capshaw came around the corner with his eyebrows lifted in disbelief.
“You’re stealing my employee?” he asked, walking until he stood right in front of his wife.
Kensy pulled her shoulders back and met his gaze.
“I am. And you’re going to pay her for the rest of her shift.”
He licked his lips, forcing Bella and me to look away because we didn’t want to get caught up in whatever foreplay kind of stuff this was.
“You trying to boss me around at my job, Kens?”
She took a step closer until her chest was nearly touching his.
“You asked me to come help with a problem, and I’m doing exactly that. Now stop arguing with me and get back to work.”
“So bossy,” he muttered, shaking his head as he looked at the floor.
“That’s why you love me.” Kensy grinned cheekily at him before looking at me. “Go grab your stuff and we’ll get going.”
“Where are we going?” I asked, wondering if Capshaw was really going to let this happen. He gave me a nod and tried to hide his grin as he disappeared back into the kitchen, giving us some privacy.
“We are going to get you everything you need to deal with this situation of yours,” Kensy replied.
I frowned for a few moments, wondering what she could possibly mean. I knew they thought I was dickerpated—or whatever they said, but there wasn’t a cure for tha—
The realization of what that meant came crashing down on me like a ton of bricks.
“Oh, no, no, no, no, no,” I stammered, lifting my hands in front of me as I took a few steps away from Kensy and Bella. “I am not going to pay for sex.”
Bella covered her mouth and giggled while Kensy full-on grinned.
“While that does sound thrilling and all, that wasn’t what I had in mind,” Kensy said with a laugh. “No one is buying sex from anyone. Just trust us. I promise, you won’t regret it.”
I blew out a heavy breath, knowing there was a good chance I just might regret it.
