Chapter 29 Goose #2

Once they were undone, she kicked off her boots, then lowered her jeans and panties to the floor. She stood there staring at me with a wanton look in her eyes as I lowered my jeans and boxers.

From the very start, she’d had me all tangled up. I needed her, and I needed her now. Anticipation flashed through her eyes as my hands dropped to her hips and lifted her up, placing her on the countertop. She bit her lip and wrapped her legs around me, giving me full access. Fuck.

With one hard thrust, I buried myself deep inside her.

“Luke!”

Each time she said my name, I felt my world still on its axis. I’d meant it when I told her I loved her. Hell, I loved her more than I ever dreamed possible. She was my everything, and there wasn’t anything I wouldn’t do for her.

A soft smile swept across her lips when I muttered, “So fucking beautiful.”

This woman made me burn for her, every inch of her, and as I drove deeper inside her, I only yearned for more.

A rush of air hissed through her teeth as I withdrew and drove into her again and again.

With her arms wound tightly around my neck, I growled into her shoulder and started thrusting harder and deeper, building up to a relentless pace.

Needing more, I slipped my hands under her, lifting her hips from the countertop. Her legs widened, giving me better access as I lowered her onto the edge of the cold granite.

She cried out, and her hands fisted in my T-shirt as I set a punishing pace. I lowered my mouth to her neck, kissing her like a hungry animal as I drove deeper, harder. Her head reared back with a sated groan.

That was it.

That was exactly what I wanted to fucking hear. Her nails dug into my lower back as her hips rocked against mine, meeting my every thrust with more intensity. I could feel the pressure building, forcing a growl from my chest.

“Fuck,” I groaned as she tightened around me. She panted wildly, and her thighs clamped down around my hips when I tried to increase my pace. I knew she was close, unable to stop the inevitable torment of her building release.

The muscles in her body grew taut as her orgasm took hold. I continued to drive into her; the sounds of my body pounding against hers echoed throughout the kitchen until I finally came inside her.

With a ragged breath, I panted, “Damn, I love you.”

“I love you, too.” She gave me a smile. “And thanks for the appetizer.”

I pulled back and grabbed a kitchen towel, quickly cleaning us up. “I did work up quite the appetite.”

“That’s good, because we have tons to eat.”

We were both busy getting dressed when I heard footsteps at the front door. I glanced over and found Baylor staring at us through the screen door. She had her bunny in one hand and a sucker in the other, and she was glaring at me with a soured look on her face.

I quickly fastened my belt as I said, “Hey there, kiddo! How’s it going?”

“What were you doing?”

“Nothing,” I answered innocently. “We’re just gettin’ dinner ready.”

Her brows furrowed with disbelief, but thankfully, she didn’t question us further. Presley skirted past me and opened the door just in time for Skid and Laken to walk in. Laken gave me a small smile that said she knew exactly what they’d walked in on, even if Baylor didn’t.

Skid smirked as he asked, “We catch you two at a bad time?”

“Maybe.” I gave him a look. “Hoping we didn’t scar the kid.”

“Nah. She didn’t see anything. ‘Cause if she did, she’d be giving you hell about it and ask a million and one questions.” He leaned in close as he whispered, “Besides, I’m pretty sure she’s walked in on us before.”

“That doesn’t make me feel any better.”

“It is what it is.”

Presley glanced back at me and rolled her eyes before quickly turning her attention back to Skid and Laken. “Can I get you guys a beer or some iced tea?”

“I’ll take a beer,” Skid answered.

“Tea for me,” Laken answered. “And Bay will have the same.”

“You’ve got it.”

Presley skirted over to the fridge while Skid and Laken took a lap around the kitchen, “Damn. This place is cleaning up good.”

“Yeah, it’s coming together.”

“I really love the flooring,” Laken added. “It looks great with the cabinets.”

“Thanks. They were Presley’s idea.”

“Not surprised.” Skid tilted his head back and inhaled deep. “Man, it smells good in here.”

“It should. I’ve been slaving over the stove for hours.”

“Lies,” Presley fussed. “Vicious, vicious lies.”

“So, it’s takeout again?”

“Hell no,” I answered. “Presley’s made one of her concoctions, and she never fails to impress.”

“I don’t know about all that,” Presley scoffed. “But hopefully it’s edible.”

Baylor stepped in front of me and stared at me like she was trying to figure me out. After several seconds, she finally asked, “Do you have a rabbit?”

“No. I can’t say that I do.”

“A dog?”

“Nope. Sure don’t.” I gave her a shrug. “I don’t have any animals, but maybe someday.”

“I have a rabbit.”

“I see that.”

“No. A real one.”

“Is that so?”

“Skid gave her one for Christmas,” Laken interjected. “I wasn’t sure it was the best idea, but Baylor’s done good with her.”

“Hmm. Maybe I’ll have to get a rabbit one day, and then, he can make friends with your rabbit.”

“And they can have baby rabbits.”

“Well, look at that.” I shot Skid a look. “She catches on pretty quick.”

“Too quick,” Skid grumbled. “And you two can forget it. One damn rabbit is enough.”

Presley came over carrying our drinks and handed Skid his beer before passing Laken and Baylor their teas. Baylor accepted hers with both hands like she was afraid she might spill it. I watched them all for a moment, and for the first time in days, maybe even longer, things felt normal.

Good even.

Skid dropped into a chair and leaned back. “What’s the next project?”

“I’m thinking I’ll take a break for a bit.”

“Ah, breaks are for the weak. It’s time to get this thing done.”

“The bedroom could use a fresh coat of paint. The porch, too. And I need to work on the shutters.”

“I can swing by tomorrow and give you a hand with that.”

“By give me a hand, do you mean stand there and watch while I do it?”

“Absolutely.”

“Alright. Sounds like a plan.”

Laken laughed, and Presley shook her head. Even Baylor giggled, even though she had no idea why. And I couldn’t help but laugh right along with them.

I caught Presley watching me out of the corner of my eye, and there was softness in her expression. It looked like she was almost relieved. I knew she’d felt it, too.

The fog that had been hanging over me since that night wasn’t gone. Not sure it ever would be. But tonight, it had loosened its grip.

I had my girl by my side, friends at my table, and a little girl with her bunny. And for the first time in days, I felt like myself again.

And for now, that was enough.
