Chapter 3
Who’s ready to have the best night ever?” Sheridan yelled.
“Me!” Manny yelled. He stopped to take a selfie right in the middle of the entrance, and almost too late, I remembered what came next. I yanked Bryony out of the way of the girl who otherwise was going to crash into her, just in time.
“Wow, that was close,” Bryony said, looking at the girl and her friends, who were running off and laughing, with no idea of what almost happened. Though I remembered a second later that this was also pretty much the way they’d reacted when they’d knocked Bryony over. “Thanks.”
“Of course,” I said. I opened my Notes app, my breath half-held in my throat as I looked at them.
But sure enough, the TEST note was gone.
So if this was a time loop situation—which it certainly seemed to be—it seemed everything reset for me each time, full stop.
I could remember what had happened, but I couldn’t take anything with me, not even an electronic note.
I glanced toward the door, the barrier that I was suddenly unable to pass through, and figured it couldn’t hurt to make sure, just in case this was a three-time-only wish kind of situation.
“Be back in a second,” I said to Bryony.
I started to head back toward the door just as Amy and Carlos walked over.
“Wait, where are you going?” Bryony called.
“Where is Cass going?” I heard Carlos ask.
“That’s what Bryony literally just said,” Amy snapped.
I tried to block all of this out. I pushed my way through the crowd, feeling like a salmon swimming upstream as I tried to reach the door.
“Did you forget something in the tent?” the cast member by the door, the one checking wristbands asked.
“Uh, sure,” I said. “I’ll just…” I pointed toward something just beyond her and dodged around an incoming group to step forward, through the doorway.
