Chapter 26 Robin
Robin
I’m just conversing with members of the committee when my Alpha rears his head. Something is wrong. Very wrong.
I’m not so sure how, but I know it has something to do with Noelle.
“I… I have to go,” I mutter to Diana, rushing off through the throngs as I loosen the tie around my neck.
Right now, it’s a leash around my neck, as my Alpha is desperate to get to his Omega.
After all, we all had a connection once upon a time. A bond that could never truly be broken, even with miles and miles between us.
And now I let that bond guide me through the crowd, an invisible thread that tugs on my heart.
Shepard joins my side, covered in sweat, and I have no idea where he has been. But so long as he is here, then we can rescue her together. “Did you sense it, too?”
My jaw clenches tightly. “Yes. I just hope she’s all right.”
That’s when I sense my other brother through the bond, and Frost has her. Thank God.
So, we run, moving to the stage. Noelle is semi-conscious in Frost’s arms as I drop to her side, checking her temperature.
Damn. She’s burning up.
“What happened?” I ask.
Frost sighs. “I don’t know. One moment, she was watching me perform, and the next, she was lying on the ground.”
“Did people see?” Shepard drops to her other side as he plants his large hand over her red curls.
She groans, shriveling up like a shrimp placed in the frying pan. “N-Nana…”
How sweet. Even when she’s in pain, her number one concern is her grandmother. I’m sure the old lady is fine.
In fact, I saw the look in the old Omega’s eyes. Noelle’s Nana was asking me to take good care of her granddaughter when she’s gone, making me promise that I wouldn’t hurt her again.
Well, I’m not going to wait that long; I will start upholding my promise now.
Noelle has gone into heat.
And I am going to take care of her.
I know just the place to take her. I saw the way her eyes shone when she set her big, brown irises on it.
“Come on. Let’s go.”
Frost lifts Noelle in his arms as he follows us through the market. We have to be as discreet as much as possible, making sure no one else sees her.
No doubt a large chunk of the townspeople saw enough already. For Noelle, I will preserve her dignity.
So, we take to the back passageways of the festival—the behind-the-scenes area that the guests don’t see.
Only staff hang about here, but they don’t question us as we rush through the quiet passageways.“Seriously, Robin. Stop being so cryptic. Where are we going?” Frost snaps, cradling Noelle in his arms.”
“N-Nana…” she still cries, wincing when another spike invades her system.
I meet his burning eyes. “To the heat cabins. To one in particular… I saw the way she looked at it the other week.
Understanding dawns in Frost’s eyes, and now he and Shepard follow close at my heels as we rush the winding path through the woods. Only Christmas lights lead the way.
It's deserted here, and rightfully so. These are our private quarters for guests of the lodge, only.
We rush up the hill, the one with the picturesque cabin with the view of the mountains. It’s been cleaned recently, so it will definitely be okay for Noelle.
I produce a key and unlock the door, and Frost moves straight down into the basement.
That’s where the nest is.
We arrive at the sunken bed, placing her down on the mounds of pillows and blankets. The nest is basic right now, but we will go out and get her more stuff.
There are enough stalls in the market selling various textiles.
“Go and fetch a wet rag and a bowl of water.”
Frost nods and heads to the ensuite bathroom attached to the nest, and he really pulled through for us. Maybe there is hope for him yet.
“Nana,” Noelle whimpers. “I… I have to see her… to let her know I’m fine…”
“Shh,” I whisper, placing my hand around her burning face. “It’s fine, Noelle. We will let her know what happened.”
I look to Shepard. He gets the message, moving toward the door. Noelle reaches her hand out to him. “Wait!”
Shepard comes back, taking her hand in his. “Yes, Noelle?”
The Omega closes her eyes, relaxing at her Alpha’s touch. “Make sure she doesn’t… miss the fireworks...”
I glance at Shepard just as Frost returns with the wet rag, placing it over Noelle’s forehead. “You heard her. And make sure her Nana has a front-row seat, too. And bring back blankets. Lots of blankets… and candy.”
I always remembered how much Noelle had a sweet tooth.
Shepard nods, moving out the door. It’s just in that moment when I spy the big cat wiping its paw on a cabinet.
This cabin was locked. And the basement is windowless. So, how the heck did Snowball get in here?
Once Shepard returns, we will do everything we can to alleviate Noelle’s pain. She needs us now.
And I’ll be damned if I miss another of her heats.
I have ten years to make up for, after all.
