Chapter 32 Robin

Robin

Once again, Frost has let us down as we listen to the sound of our Omega leaving our lives yet again.

We even listen until the sound of the cab’s engine disappears on the highway.

After a few moments, I turn toward Frost, trying to keep it together. Oh, I’m more than pissed. I’m livid.

Just when we were winning her back, he goes and pulls a stunt like this.

“Why?” I growl, keeping my teeth clenched.

Frost shuts down before us, searching for his pants like a ghost. Once he finds them by the hot tub, he steps into them methodically, going to grab his guitar where he left it on the window bench.

But before he can reach the instrument, Shepard steps in his way. Like me, the Alpha is still in his swimming trunks.

“Move out of my way…” Frost glares at Shepard, eyes glowing.

But Shepard is stalwart, crossing his arms in front of his chest. “No. Not after you explain yourself.”

Frost growls, snapping his gaze at me. I’m just throwing on my glasses and my own pants as I join Shepard’s side now, buttoning up my shirt.

“You have five minutes before I kick your ass, Frost,” I tell him once I finish with the shirt, crossing my own arms.

The Alpha shuts down again, shoulders hunched as his body trembles. Then, he sighs. “It… was a mistake.

“You’re goddamn right it was a mistake… We were winning her back, Frost… why did you have to go and ruin it?”

“B-because…” he mutters.

I hover closer until our noses are inches apart. “Because of what?”

“Robin,” Shepard warns.

Suddenly, my Alpha snaps. I grip my brother by the scruff of his shirt, pushing him back toward the nearest wall. “You asshole! You always have to fucking destroy everything!”

“That’s enough!” Shepard comes between us, shoving me away from Frost.

Frost doesn’t even fight me. He slips down the wall, falling onto his ass as he runs his hands through his wet hair.

I fix my tie, which is still askew. “You are going to fix this.”

Frost groans. “How? There’s no going back from this.”

“Well, you’re going to find a way. Or so help me, Frost…” I start.

Frost exhales, and then his pained eyes find mine at last. “Look, I made a mistake. But… I couldn’t help myself. You should have seen the face of that slimy motherfucker messaging her… He reminded me of…”

Shepard and I regard him on the floor now. My brother has more patience than I do, as he asks softly, “Reminded you of who?”

A dark shadow falls over Frost’s face, and then his eyes become shards of ice. “Him. The one… the one she left us for… left our dads for…”

Understanding finally dawns on me, and then my shoulders sag. I guess I found my explanation.

My brother is still just a traumatized seventeen-year-old deep down. Honestly, out of the three of us, he’s the only one who’s never truly moved on from our mother’s departure. He’s hardly grown since.

So, our mother left us… But so what? She’s long gone now—ancient history. But Noelle is different.

She always loved us.

I step toward Frost. Shepard places a palm on my chest, giving me a “Play it cool” look. I sigh, dropping down to Frost’s side.

“Mom left us, too, Frost,” I finally tell him. “You’re not the only one hurting. So, it doesn't excuse what you did.”

Frost shuts his eyes, palming his face as he uses the heel of his hand to rub at his eyes, as if to rid the memory of our mother’s departure from his mind.

I remember the day vividly. We all just came home from school. Shepard had sawdust in his hair from woodshop last period. Frost had his guitar strapped to his shoulder.

I was the one who called out for her. Yet only silence greeted us. Our fathers were still at work, so they were none the wiser either.

I always wished I could have done more to make Mom feel appreciated, but I’ve long since made peace with her leaving. Honestly, I haven’t even tried to make contact with her.

She no longer wanted us. And I have accepted that.

“Noelle is not our mother…” I say at last.

“I know that!” Frost growls. “It’s just… I don’t want to lose her, too.”

I watch him there on the floor for some time, looking sorry for himself. Then I sigh, rising to my feet. I reach out my hand. “Come on. Get up. I think it’s time we talked to them.”

Frost takes my hand as I help him to his feet. “Talk to who?”

I meet his gaze. Then I look at Shepard. “Our fathers. Unlike Mom, they never abandoned us. They’ve always been there for us, even after their Omega left them to raise three sons. So, we could do with their wisdom right now.”

Frost doesn’t look pleased with the prospect of seeing his dad again, as the two barely talk these days. Shepard shrugs, since he often messages his father: the pair spends a lot of time together, watching football and whatnot.

However, my own father has been busy these past ten years, pouring himself into his work.

After all, it’s not easy being Mayor of Silverpine.

But I think it’s time we all got together again… As men now… from one group of Alphas to another.

As Pack Wynter Snr and Pack Wynter Jnr, respectively.

Like our fathers, we may just find ourselves without an Omega. And I refuse to let history repeat itself yet again.

So, it’s time to win Noelle back.
