Chapter 53
Diesel towel dried her hair as she watched Viper get dressed. She never thought she would have someone in her life that made her want to face the next day. She never thought she would actually be happy at what the doctors had told her at the hospital. Hell, she was shocked, since she knew she was on birth control to regulate her period.
Yet, since being on this team, she knew things happened for a reason. They may not understand those reasons, but it wasn’t theirs to understand. She wasn’t a religious person, but she was smart enough to know there was a force greater than man in the works out there.
She was surprised when Raven told her she didn’t want her parents to come see her at the hospital and demanded that they release her to Diesel. When Nadia came to the hospital, she spoke with Raven briefly and then advised the hospital that Diesel was the girl’s biological mother and had permission to go with her.
She knew he loved her since he had stayed there to help her with Raven. But she knew deep down he wanted to be in New York helping his brother Danny save their sister. She had tried to tell him several times to go, but he wouldn’t. Yet a part of her had been petrified when he got away from her, he wouldn’t come back. Their time together was done. There was nothing holding him here anymore.
Yet when they were in the shower, he told her wasn’t going anywhere. She was stuck with him. She finally let herself believe it. That’s why she told him about the baby. She was now scared of having done that. Was he upset? Angry? Felt like he was trapped?
“Stop it, trouble! I’m not going anywhere. I’m the happiest fucking man on the planet right now. I have a woman I never thought I needed or wanted in my life for good and she’s making me a dad. Something I honestly never thought I wanted. You’ve given me everything I never knew I wanted.”
“Why didn’t you go to New York?” Diesel finally asked, afraid of the answer as she looked at him in the mirror.
“Because I know my brother and his people have it under control. My wife and stepdaughter needed me more. When we have confirmation that they have found Bella, then we will go. Together. As a family.”
“I love you.”
“I love you, too!” Viper stated, leaning down to kiss Diesel on the head.
Diesel got up and went to the door when there was a knock on it. When she opened it, there was a stern-looking Pratt and York staring back at her. Their eyes darted between Diesel and Viper as if they weren’t sure how the news they were about to relay was to be accepted.
“What?” Diesel asked, her nerves getting the best of her.
“One, Viper’s brother called. Jacko took the call. Bella is alive. Your brother Danny has her. They were headed to the hospital in there in NY.” York advised Viper, before looking at Diesel.
“And?”
Something was wrong. Diesel could tell there was something wrong. Her teammates were apprehensive about whatever it was.
“Joker has officially been reported as MIA. He’s not A.W.O.L. as thought. He’s been kidnapped. His motorcycle was found, along with blood near his bike.” Pratt informed Diesel, hesitantly.
“What the fuck?”
“Highlander and his team are headed back to San Diego now.”
“Will they let us help them?” Diesel asked, no hesitation in her words.
“You just found Raven. You need time to spend with her. They just found Bella. You guys need time with her, too.” York asked, giving Diesel a way out.
“They will bring Bella to California. Raven has got permission to go to San Diego for specialized counseling there. She’s staying with us. We will handle this together. Joker is one of ours too. He’s family. So, I will ask again, when do we leave?” Viper advised the women, standing behind his wife, showing his support.
The sooner they found Joker, the sooner they could officially be the family they were destined to be.
