Epilogue

August

Moving my little in took longer than I thought it would.

Not because he had so much stuff but because he had pretty much brought over everything he really wanted, barring a couple of pieces of furniture, and with the rent paid for the month and the two of us very busy with Squirrel, we didn’t get around to it until the last possible moment.

The home we shared was the same one that housed the love stories of my parents and grandparents. When I bought it, I prayed that one day, it would also house my love story, but I never dreamed how wonderful and amazing that could be.

Sure, I’d grown up seeing how loving couples behaved, but the reality of it was so much more.

We did pretty much everything together, even carpooled to work.

As a fully established couple, we were not willing to keep our relationship a secret at work or anywhere, but it violated no rules, and we tried to keep things professional.

Which didn’t mean we didn’t cast yearning glances at one another from time to time, but I thought we did pretty well, considering we were in love.

I did have a secret. One of the bedrooms was going to be a playroom by Christmas.

It would be a surprise, but I was taking notes of everything Hal’s little side seemed to love, and by the time the holidays rolled around, Santa would be able to visit the playroom on Christmas morning, something I was pretty sure my little would love.

This afternoon, with all of the moving finally done and my family under one roof, I lounged on the sofa with a kitten in my lap and Hal’s head resting on my shoulder.

We were in theory watching a movie, but I was really the only one awake.

After all, how could I miss a minute of this perfect love story that belonged to us.
