Chapter 41
Chapter Forty-One
Inside, past the entry by the spiral staircase up, chairs have been set up for the media reveal ahead of tonight’s private view to give them first chance to see the exhibits. What the press don’t know is that Lily’s quickly installing the exhibits with the technicians, swapping out the stand-ins.
Will steps out of the SUV, looking hot as hell. And my heart’s bursting. I watch him go round to the back of the Rover and open the hatch.
“Will!” I call out, hurrying over.
And he sweeps me into an epic kiss, holding the largest, roundest black helium balloons I’ve ever seen. We’re kissing amid the balloons, and a trio of silver star helium balloons too.
“For the museum,” he tells me, blood rushing in my ears, handing over the balloon strings. I’m grinning like a fool, and nobody could make me stop, not for all the money or exhibits in the world. “And these silver ones are for you.”
He reaches for a bouquet of peonies and roses, in shades of pink and red, presenting them to me with a grin.
And we’re kissing again like we’re the only two people left in London, like the world is ours and there’s nothing else that matters.
Because there isn’t. Between Will and me, in that moment, we have everything we could want, and more.
This time, when we straighten, we get applause from the guests queued to enter the museum’s event, leaving us both blushing.
Belatedly, I remember hearing the click of camera shutters.
And we walk in the museum hand in hand, with our black and silver balloons trailing us.
We deliver the black balloons to Carine, who’s helping with the last of the setup before they open the doors to the press.
Whatever the future holds from this point on, we can face it together.
