Chapter 10
Chapter Ten
Amy
And wasn’t that a good question.
I had no freaking idea what I wanted. This was too weird.
And yes, I'd stumbled across some books that depicted situations like this, but I honestly never thought it really happened. I'd been so disbelieving that I hadn’t even given it a thought when it came to Rhys and Wolfe. And me.
Here I thought I was the odd woman out.
Turned out they wanted to include me.
The idea was hot.
However, it was still weird.
Could I really kiss Rhys after having kissed Wolfe just a few hours ago?
His hand did feel good touching my leg, and for a brief second, I'd felt like I was cheating on Wolfe, although Wolfe was standing right there and clearly saw it.
Not that Wolfe and I were together or anything, but he had kissed me. Well, he’d kissed me back. I'd been the one initiating the kissing, but I couldn’t help it. The man made me want things I'd never thought I would want again.
“We’re not tryin’ to rush anything,” Rhys said, drawing my attention to him once more.
I stared into his dark blue eyes, trying to figure out what he was thinking. What he really wanted.
When he’d first picked me up, helping me onto the tailgate, my body had caught fire from his simple touch. It had taken my breath away, even if I'd felt guilty because Wolfe was right there.
“Amy?”
Wolfe’s deep voice drew me out of my thoughts and I peered over at him. He looked worried.
“I’m not saying no,” I admitted, although the words made me blush. “I’m just… I need some time to understand what this is.”
Rhys pulled back, his hand leaving my leg, but I clamped my fingers into his biceps. “No. Don’t move.”
His dark eyebrows lifted.
I looked over at Wolfe. “And you sit.”
He was making me nervous the way his body vibrated with tension.
Wolfe hefted himself up onto the tailgate, the weight of his body causing the truck to dip.
Sliding my hands down Rhys’s arms, I took his palms and once more placed them on my thighs, staring down at them. Even in the moonlight, his sun-bronzed skin was significantly darker than my pale legs. I covered his hands with mine, his warmth seeping into me.
I watched as his thumbs slid across the insides of my thighs, gently, softly. He wasn’t making a move, but the simple touch had fire streaking through me.
Pulling my attention away from the sight, I reached for Wolfe’s hand, placing it on top of Rhys’s hand, on top of my thigh. I covered his hand with mine, mesmerized by his long fingers as they closed over Rhys’s, his thumb brushing the outside edge of Rhys’s wrist.
I swallowed hard. Even the sight of something so innocent was highly erotic. I briefly wondered how Nicole Edwards wrote those books. Seriously.
“Amy…”
I jerked my attention to Rhys, his voice sounding strained as he stood between my thighs. With his hand trapped beneath Wolfe’s, I kept my other hand on his free one and then cupped his face, scooting closer to him, my legs dangling off the tailgate.
When we were close enough that I could feel his breath on my face, I leaned forward, pressing my lips to his. A rough growl sounded, but it didn’t come from Rhys. Wolfe’s hand pressed down on my thigh, his fingers wrapping around, pressing into my flesh. He clearly wasn’t objecting.
Heat consumed me as I explored Rhys’s mouth with my tongue.
He was kissing me back but letting me lead.
I'd noticed the same thing with Wolfe earlier. These men were hesitant when it came to me. They’d obviously caught on to my twitchiness.
Although I appreciated them being gentle with me, I wanted more. Even just a little more.
I moaned and Rhys must’ve read my mind because his hands came up to cradle my face, tilting my head, which allowed him to take full control of the kiss, his tongue darting inside. He wasn’t rough, more like commanding, dominant. I'd never felt anything like it before and I didn’t want him to stop.
When I pulled back, we were both breathing hard, our eyes locked together.
For a brief second, I forgot Wolfe was sitting there, although his big hand was still resting on my thigh, warm and secure.
I shifted toward him, confusion warring with the urge to kiss him, to let him know that I felt the same thing for him that I felt for Rhys.
His gaze was smoldering hot, boring into me. When I leaned toward him, his hand moved beneath my hair, cupping the back of my head and pulling me close.
The kiss detonated upon impact and I was almost desperate to get closer to him, but I held back. This was moving too fast. I wasn’t sure how this worked, what the rules were, or even if I was ready for something like this.
But that didn’t stop me from kissing Wolfe for all I was worth.
Wolfe
No doubt about it, I had been wild in my younger days.
I'd shared plenty of women, oftentimes with my cousin, a couple of times with a buddy I went to school with, but that was significantly different than this thing between me and Amy and Rhys.
I had never shared a woman with a man I was attracted to. It had always been about the woman.
And this was just kissing out under the stars by the lake, yet it surpassed any and every single one of my previous encounters by miles.
I knew we wouldn’t go any further than this.
As much as I wanted to, I would take things slow with Amy.
I wanted her too damn much to fuck things up between us.
Hell, I was surprised she was still here, her lips melding to mine, her hands roaming over my upper body.
She was fire in my arms, but she was still hesitant, I could tell.
The only thing I worried about was how to make it through the night without making a complete fool of myself. I'd never been so close to coming in my jeans as I was right then, and that was from Amy’s kiss and Rhys’s hand on my leg.
I managed to break the kiss before I lost all good sense.
“Come here,” I told her as I shifted back, leaving room for her to sit on the tailgate between my legs.
When she got situated, her back to my chest, I grinned to myself as she pulled Rhys in front of her, his ass resting against the metal, positioned between our legs.
No one said anything for several minutes as we stared up at the stars and out at the lake. The moon was bright, bouncing off the water and highlighting the tree line in the distance. It was peaceful.
I wasn’t sure there’d ever been a more perfect place than here. Right now.
Amy relaxed into me, her breathing returning to normal. When she reached for my hand, linking her fingers with mine, I allowed her to position it on her leg. I breathed easier, more comfortable like this than I could remember being in my life.
“Have y’all done this before?” she asked.
“No,” I answered easily. “Not like this.”
Amy cocked her head to look up at me. I peered down my nose at her.
“Like this? What does that mean?”
I sighed. I really didn’t want to get into this with her. Even thinking about my previous sexual encounters tainted this moment and I didn’t want that.
“Have you shared a woman before?” She didn’t sound judgmental. “Rumors go around, Wolfe. It isn’t like I haven’t heard a few things about you and your cousin.”
“Yeah. I’ve shared a woman with my cousin.”
“What about you?” Amy tapped Rhys on the back, her fingers lingering.
“I’ve never shared a woman with Wolfe or his cousin.”
Amy laughed. I did, too.
She shifted in my lap, making my cock twitch. I was hard as steel and there was no way to hide it from her, but I was ignoring it, hoping she would, too.
“Now, I’m no expert on it, but I do know what it means to be bisexual. I mean, come on, I do read books. I take it you are? Both of you?”
“Yes,” Rhys answered instantly, turning so that he was facing us. “But it’s not somethin’ I broadcast.” His gaze met mine.
“And you?” Amy peered up at me again.
“I’ve experimented,” I said, my eyes locked with Rhys’s, speaking more to him than anyone. “But it’s never felt like this before.”
I could feel Amy watching us, studying us. I couldn’t look away from Rhys for whatever reason.
“Have you kissed him?”
Okay, now I could look away. Was she serious?
I looked down, trying to see who she was asking. Her smile was wicked, and it did something to my insides, made me want to do wicked, dirty things to her.
“Yes,” I told her.
“Do you want to kiss him again?” She giggled. “I sound like I’m in sixth grade, trying to get the cute boy to kiss my best friend. But do you?”
I smiled. “Yeah.”
“What’s stopping you?”
Amy shifted, pulling Rhys forward at the same time, which brought my mouth dangerously close to his. I didn’t move, figuring Rhys could do as he wished. I had been the one to initiate our first kiss, so turnabout was fair play.
“Don’t mind me,” Amy said with a chuckle. “I’m just a girl watching two smoking-hot cowboys make out.”
I grinned as Rhys leaned in and kissed me. The groan that came up from my chest was rough and laced with a need I was doing my best to fight. Unlike kissing Amy, I didn’t have to control myself with Rhys. I knew he could handle any damn thing I could dish out.
“Oh, my.” Amy’s words were accompanied by a gasp. “That really is hot.”
Unable to keep from laughing, I pulled back and we both stared down at her. The innocent expression she shot back was feigned, I knew it.
“What? Did I say something wrong?” She laughed when Rhys tickled her thigh, her butt rubbing up against my now throbbing erection.
Not helping.
Not at all.
Rhys
I didn’t want to call it a night, but I knew it was time.
With Amy unknowingly teasing us, there was no telling where this night would lead.
As far as my willpower was concerned, I was all tapped out.
When I mentioned we should head back, Amy seemed disappointed, but Wolfe looked almost relieved.
He probably felt the same as me—too damn close to the edge.
“Fine,” Amy said with a dramatic huff, but she was smiling.
I helped her down from the tailgate and into the cab of the truck.
When she linked her fingers with mine, I once again had to focus on keeping my heart from pounding out of my chest. The move was innocent yet so seductive at the same time.
I honestly couldn’t remember a time when I'd held hands with a woman.
It wasn’t until Wolfe was pulling out onto the main road that Amy spoke again.
“Now that the making-out portion of the evening is over, I guess it’s time to go home and go to bed.” She stretched and I suspected it was her way of continuing to touch us both.
I liked that she wanted to.
“I’m on board with the goin’ to bed part,” Wolfe noted.
I could see Amy’s cheeks darken. “By bed, I mean to sleep.”
“Oh. Well.” Wolfe grinned over at her. “Another time then.”
Amy chuckled and my dick stirred to life. All this talk of beds was making me hurt.
“Do you boys have to get up for church?” She looked back and forth between us.
The quick change of subject was just what my dick needed to control itself.
“Yep,” Wolfe grumbled. “Not somethin’ you miss if you’re a Caine. Unless you’re Lynx’s old man. Since he doesn’t leave the house…”
“He really doesn’t leave the house?”
“Not in ten years.”
“And you?” Amy asked me directly. “Do you have to get up?”
“Yeah, but my family goes to the later service.” I grinned. “Heaven forbid the Caines and the Trevinos go to church at the same time.”
“So, that’s still a thing? The… What do you even call it? A falling-out? A war, maybe? Between your families?” She looked genuinely curious. “What happens if … you know… What happens if things work out for the two of you? What will that do to the … war?”
That wasn’t something I wanted to think about.
I loved my family and I knew they loved me.
Since my old man was no longer with us, I didn’t have to worry about his reaction; however, my grandfather was still kicking and he’d probably have a coronary.
More so about the fact that I would be with a man than necessarily Wolfe Caine.
“We’ll deal with that when the time comes,” Wolfe noted.
I stared at him, stuck on the fact that Wolfe said when, not if.
Amy was yawning for probably the twentieth time by the time we pulled down her driveway. For a minute there, I thought she was going to fall asleep. However, as soon as we pulled up to the house, she was wide awake, her eyes huge in her face as she stared at the dark house.
“Give me your key,” I instructed, holding my hand out as I opened the truck door and climbed out.
“You don’t have to do that,” she said, but her voice was shaky.
I pulled her to the edge of the seat so I was standing directly in front of her. I lowered my voice, keeping my tone even. “I don’t know what you’re scared of or what you’re runnin’ from, but I’m not gonna let anything happen to you. You should know that by now.”
I folded my hand and opened it again, signaling for her to place the key in it. Amy reluctantly passed it over, and I passed Wolfe on the way to the door. I didn’t see anything amiss out front, but I looked it over, making sure her front windows were still intact.
Once inside, I did the same thing I did earlier.
I walked into every room, flipping on the lights as I went.
This time I went so far as to check that all the windows were locked, looked in her closets and even under the full-size bed in her bedroom.
No way were the three of us fitting on that thing.
The thought made me laugh.
I returned to the living room to find Wolfe and Amy standing in the doorway.
“I’m sorry,” she said softly. “I don’t want you to think you have to protect me. That’s not why I like hanging out with you.” She looked up at Wolfe. “Both of you.”
Wolfe cupped her face and stared down at her. “No one’s gonna hurt you, Amy. You’ve got my word on that. And when you’re ready to tell us what’s goin’ on, we’re here to listen.”
She nodded and Wolfe released her face, but not before pressing a kiss to her forehead.
“Good night,” I said, pausing in front of her and pressing a kiss to her lips.
Her hand brushed over my chest and I wished like hell I wasn’t leaving her alone tonight. However, I couldn’t impose on her. The woman had to come out of her shell sometime, and Wolfe was right; whenever she was ready to talk about it, we’d both be there.
In the meantime, I was going to do a little digging. Now that I had more information, I wouldn’t be able to help myself.
Because if someone was out to hurt Amy, I damn sure wasn’t going to sit back and wait for it to happen.
