PROLOGUE #3
“Call—Call me beautiful again,” I whisper against his skin.
His hands tighten on me.
“Come for me, beautiful. Choke my cock with your slutty, little womb,” he growls, his fist suddenly wrapping around my aching shaft, giving me one steady pump.
I erupt.
My scream is muffled against Devon’s neck as my eyes squeeze shut and my release washes over me in violent waves.
Devon shudders, pinning me against his body, his deep groan shaking us both as he comes inside me, filling me up with himself.
I can’t stop the tiny whimpers that escape me when his knot grows, stretching me, sealing his cum in me, and us together.
We’re both breathing hard as the frenzy quiets down, and I pull back to look at him.
God, he’s so handsome, I think as I trace the features of his face with my fingers, feeling so relaxed.
He smiles, and my fingers dip into a tiny, little dimple I hadn’t noticed.
“Thank you,” he says, drawing my eyes to his. They’re warm and playful, and something tells me my comment was never in my head.
I sigh, accepting my fate.
“Of course I said that out loud.”
He lets out a low chuckle, and my eyes briefly slip shut as he swipes my hair off my forehead.
“I told you, I love having my ego stroked. What you just said saved my employees a whole month of having to kiss the ground I walk on.”
“Well, in that case, I’m glad I was useful,” I say, lips twitching.
He’s still on top of me, but he doesn’t feel heavy at all. Yet, a few moments later, he gathers me in his embrace again.
“Here, let me flip us so I’m not crushing you.”
His knot tugs at my rim even with his careful maneuvering, making my skin pebble with goosebumps, but I hum contentedly when Devon lies on his back and I settle on him, sprawled on his chest, straddling his hips.
We’re silent for a while, doing nothing but lying there, looking at each other, his heart beating strong under my ear, lulling me to sleep.
“Are you okay? I didn’t hurt you, right?”
I shake my head. “I’m really, really fine,” I mumble, the side of my face squished against his chest.
“Your freckles ripple like a wave when you come, you know that?”
I feel my cheeks heat.
“They do?”
“Mhm.” He nods, carding his fingers through my hair once more, smiling when my eyes droop at the divine sensation. “Sleep, Sam.”
“Don’t want to.”
He chuckles, and the vibration travels through me.
“You’re tired, and we’re not going anywhere for a while. Sleep. I’ll sleep, too. I could use some sleep, you wore me out.”
His eyes are twinkling, and I hide my smile in his skin.
I nod, resting completely on him as exhaustion slowly pulls me under. “Night, Devon.”
“Night, Sam.”
I don’t realize he was lying about sleeping.
Because I feel his hand caressing my hair for a long time.

It’s not even dawn when awareness slowly trickles in. I keep my eyes closed, wanting nothing more than to sink back into this wonderful cedarwood and bergamot-scented cocoon of warmth.
I shift on the mattress, and a small, involuntary sound leaves me at the different, little aches all over my body.
What—
Conference.
Last night.
Devon.
My heart thumps hard when I open my eyes and take stock of my situation; on my side, Devon spooning me from behind, his head on the same pillow, his arm thrown casually over my waist.
I peek at him over my shoulder, and my stomach flips at the sight.
He’s sleeping deeply, his dark hair mussed and falling over his forehead, the beginnings of a dark stubble covering his cheeks and jaw.
It would be so easy to turn around, and burrow deeper into his arms, to press my nose against his throat, and let his scent fill my senses.
Maybe I could wake him up and kiss him one more time before I go.
It would be really nice if I could kiss him one more time.
Something twists in my chest.
God, I’m being ridiculous. What kind of purpose would that serve? It would only make things awkward in the light of the morning after, and I don’t want that.
I want to remember it for what it was.
Just one great night.
Probably the best night of my life.
Swallowing thickly, I make sure I don’t jostle the bed as I slowly try to get up. For just a second, I freeze when his hand flattens on my belly, holding me tightly, but he lets me go as I slip out of his arms without waking him up.
Moving quietly around the room, I locate my discarded clothes and get dressed, my breathing uneven when I feel Devon’s cum leaking down my thighs.
I pick up his clothes too, placing them on a nearby chair before scanning the room for anything I might have forgotten.
Stalling. That’s what I’m doing.
Stupid.
I shake my head at myself, already halfway to the door, when my footsteps slow to a stop.
Before I can think twice about it, I’m rounding the bed again. Devon is exactly the way I left him as I lean over him, and press a soft kiss to his rough cheek.
The click of the door is both loud and quiet behind me.
I take my first real breath only hours later, when I’m on the plane home.
Or maybe I don’t take it at all.
Maybe it stays trapped inside my lungs.
This way, they remain full of cedarwood and bergamot.
