SIXTEEN #3

“So I just let it go. Let you go. I let you go and told myself it was better this way. We were strangers, after all. We’d never see each other again, and the last thing I wanted was to drag someone in my life, and put them in danger.

” His throat bobs, and the underlying pain in his words sits heavy on my chest. “I convinced myself it didn’t mean anything anyway, that every instinct I had was wrong.

And yet, I—” He pauses, emotions and memories swirling in those blue-gray depths.

“I never touched anyone else since that night with you. I tried to explain it away why my body, my mind rejected the very idea of it, but it only made sense when I saw you again, when I got to be around you and watch you smile.” He holds my face, and I can’t breathe.

“It was you. I’d already found you and never realized it. ”

My ears ring, my body buzzing from everything he’s saying.

He wanted to come after me, to find me. He never touched anyone else for over a year.

“I wanted to kiss you that morning. I wanted to kiss you so bad before I left, but I didn’t,” I whisper. “I didn’t want to make things awkward.”

“Sam…” My name on his lips is almost reverent, and my soul trembles in fear for what I have to tell him.

“It was you for me too. No one… no one else touched me after that night.”

I feel the moment his heartbeat picks up, thundering against my own. His expression changes slowly, his gaze sharpening on me as I wait for realization to set in.

His arm snakes around my waist like a steel band, crashing me against him, his pale eyes wide and questioning, beseeching.

“Eli?” he asks, voice cracking.

“He’s yours, Devon,” I say, setting free the words I’ve been keeping for so long. “Ours.”

“Ours,” he repeats hoarsely.

“I’m so sorry I didn’t tell you sooner.” The apology pours out of me in a frantic whisper. “Y-you didn’t ask for this, and I didn’t want to mess up your life. I’m so sorry, Dev—”

I never get to finish, because in the next instant, he’s kissing me, stealing my breath, quieting my fear, gathering me as close as his knot allows, keeping our mouths, our bodies, and our hearts fused.

It’s a kiss both hard and tender. It brims with possessiveness and relief.

It’s a promise, and it mends something inside me I never knew was hurting.

I’m breathing as if I’ve just run a marathon when we break apart, feeling warm all over, which only gets worse when I look at him.

“You’re both mine?” His eyes are shining, and the guarded hope I witness in them makes my own eyes burn too. “My Sammy? My Eli?”

I nod fast, craning my neck to kiss him again, over and over, whimpering when he takes over, when he feeds me the raw sound that tears from him.

“I don’t know if I want more to fuck you senseless one more time the second my knot deflates, or pick you up and rush over to his crib to stare at him until he wakes up,” he murmurs roughly.

I bite my lip, but it’s impossible to contain my ridiculously happy smile.

And why should I, anyway? I want to let myself feel every ounce of this terrifying happiness, let myself believe it’s not a dream, not a fantasy. It’s as real as the strong arms holding me together.

“Want to hear my suggestion?” I mutter softly, breath hitching when I press into the saddle of his hips, and his knot rubs me just right that every nerve ending comes alive.

Devon’s hands grip my thighs, a pleased rumble vibrating in his chest as he helps me move slowly and carefully around his still-thick knot.

His eyes are fixed on mine. Blazing.

“I’m all ears.”

“Well, Eli probably won’t be up for another hour, maybe less. And we definitely shouldn’t wake him up. Never, ever, wake him up unless you’re ready to face the consequences.”

He chuckles, warm smile already pulling at his lips.

“He’s feisty, huh?”

“Oh yeah. And charming, which is a lethal combination. All he has to do is turn his big gray eyes on me, and I fold like a cheap lawn-chair.” I narrow my eyes at him playfully. “Sound familiar?”

His smile is all teeth, so pleased with himself.

“I make you fold?”

“You make me fold so hard.” I sigh dramatically.

“It’s only fair. There’s nothing you could ask of me that I wouldn’t do.”

His smile is still there, but his expression is serious, his gaze soft, and I know he means it.

God, he means it.

I brush his lips with mine one more time, and slip my tongue inside his mouth, kissing him slowly, thoroughly, before I pull back, and sit up.

He’s already breathing hard, but it’s nothing compared to when I pretend to stretch with my arms above my head, letting him look his fill of me like this—straddling his lap, his cock still inside me, completely bare, sweat and cum cooling on my skin.

He looks mesmerized as I start a tentative grind on him that turns bolder when his knot recedes enough for me to move.

“How about you take care of me for a little while longer,” I breathe, taking his hand and wrapping it around my bouncing dick, a moan slipping out of me when he fists me without hesitation and pumps me perfectly, “and I take care of you?” I finish, tightening around him, sliding up his throbbing length, and sinking down, swallowing every inch, my slick easing the way.

Devon nods distractedly, watching me move, his fist working me slowly but relentlessly, his other hand firm on my hip.

“Sounds like a damn good plan to me,” he rasps, his eyes finding mine and staying.

“And then shower, and coffee, and muffins, and breakfast with our baby,” I whisper.

He merely looks at me for a few seconds.

I’m not even surprised when his arms wrap around me, and he pulls me down, crowding me against the cushions, fucking me slowly, pressing the words “our baby” over and over to my lips.

It’s the happiest morning of my life.
