5. Amelie

FIVE

Amelie

I t turned out divorce was an easy process when you had endless resources and neither party held the other accountable for emotional damages. Though Stefan and I shared guardianship of the children, custody battles didn’t exist either when everyone was willing to make this ‘transition’ as smooth as possible.

Everyone was just so damn willing. Was I the only one to see this marriage for what it was—a farce?

Both men were fighting over what the other had like a pissing contest. But this wasn’t about the rich-slash-poor or married-slash-single thing, this was a man-versus-man thing.

A normal relationship was boring to someone of Kai’s stature, so, instead, he was testing how far he could push another man in his marriage. People with obscene amounts of money orchestrated elaborate charades for their amusement.

Stefan was hypnotized by Kai’s glamorous life, elevating him to God status. It gave Kai the upper hand, and Stefan believed every word that came out of his mouth, including his convictions that we couldn’t make it without his wealth.

But I wasn’t intimidated by Kai Cavendish’s money. Kai was no God; just an ordinary man corrupted by power and a god complex. He wanted to make everyone dance to his tune. After finalizing the divorce proceedings, he wasted no time flying us to the Philippines for an impromptu elopement in the morning and a minimoon at night.

Once more, it was worrisome how easily things came together where Kai’s plans were concerned. The kids were at a sleepaway camp this week, courtesy of the same man. Coincidentally, he had also connected Stefan with the editor of a travel magazine this week. Stefan flew to Africa to take safari photos the day we left. It was his dream job, and he couldn’t be more grateful to Kai for the introduction.

Stefan was blind to Kai’s manipulations. Kai intentionally threw Stefan a bone to keep his mind off his wife’s remarriage and our impending honeymoon at the beautiful beach resort in Boracay.

Stefan had often chided me for looking at the world through rose-colored glasses, but this time, the wool was over his eyes, not mine. I might have been cornered into agreeing to this deal, but for once, I wasn’t content with making peace with my fate.

I was pissed, and my number one target for my unvented anger was Kai Cavendish. Especially now that we were alone, standing face to face in the beautiful penthouse of the hotel where the deed was to be done.

He didn’t change out of the white, airy shirt and blue linen pants he wore to sign our marriage license. When I first saw him in his crisp shirt—sleeves rolled-up to expose his perfect, golden arms—I wondered for a moment whether he was the statue Michelangelo had meant to carve. It was easy to see why people bent to his will. It wasn’t just the physical beauty he possessed; he was something of an enigma, too. It was impossible to resist. The momentary lapse was quickly dismissed when I remembered how he had manipulated me into this, and my rage came crashing back.

“We’ll only have the next few days without the kids,” he started. “If you want to yell at me, there won’t be a better time than now. I recommend getting it out of your system.”

He had predicted my ire and prepared for it. I didn’t want to disappoint him, but damn, he had taken away the satisfaction. Fighting with a man only had vindication when they participated. Yelling at someone who was composed was simply frustrating.

I scrapped my previous plan. This man knew everything about me. My fierce nature wouldn’t surprise him, but the lack of it would. An indifferent approach would hurt his ego more.

“Why would I yell at you?” I asked dismissively. “After all, you’ve paid me well above my market rate to be here.”

He hadn’t expected me to treat tonight like a transaction. For the first time, Kai seemed visibly taken aback.

Satisfaction cooled my blood. Finally, I had shaken his perfected poise just a fraction. He knew everything about me since he had investigated us, and I loved acting out of character to stupefy him.

With a contented hum, I moved toward the floor-to-ceiling window of the panoramic bedroom. His eyes tracked me as I looked out at the white sand beaches with my back to him.

“It won’t work.”

“What won’t work?” I asked innocently.

“You intentionally trying to push my buttons.” I sensed the fake amusement in his assessment. Kai wanted to remain in control and refused to believe I could flip the script on him.

“I wouldn’t dare to do such a thing,” I replied nonchalantly.

I heard the shuffle of his footsteps. A few moments later, he stood next to me with two glasses in hand. He had made a pit stop at the minibar, and by the looks of the generous pours, he figured we could both use a large drink. He handed me a glass of wine. There was an amber-colored liquid in his cup.

The sun was setting, and the weak rays fell on his face through the window. My God. He had to be the most beautiful man on the planet. If only his inner beauty matched what was on the outside. Unfortunately, it didn’t. This cruel man had a black heart, breaking marriages and playing with people’s lives for his pleasure.

I turned my face away from him.

“Can we skip this part?” he asked, sounding equally impassive. “I prefer your anger to you icing me out.”

He drank the liquid in his glass in one sip while I nursed my drink. I realized he was masking his restlessness by mimicking my unemotional approach. In reality, Kai was on edge. It was written in his charismatic eyes, which carried the impatience of a man waiting to be paid what he was owed.

He had invested a lot of money and time into making this marriage happen. This night was his hard-won prize. He wanted to savor this moment while simultaneously get on with it. But my detached attitude was making his win seem like a loss.

The thought brought a smile to my face. It was Kai’s turn to be aggravated with something that was out of his hands.

“I have no anger to vent, Mr. Cavendish. Perhaps there’s something you want to discuss?”

I never knew I possessed the quality to act unaffected; it came with the added benefit of pissing Kai off. “Stop it, Amelie. You’re purposefully acting apathetic to get a rise out of me. It’ll be a mistake to start our marriage on the wrong foot.”

“I think that boat has already sailed. Don’t you?” I drank the wine and left the empty glass on the windowsill.

His veneer started shedding. “I’m giving your family the opportunity of a lifetime. Do you only plan on giving me grief in return?”

“You misunderstand me,” I replied, perfectly poised and cool. “I plan on giving you exactly what you want—my submission.”

I emotionlessly shed my robe while looking out the window. If I had to fuck him to seal the deal, all he would get was my body. My soul was mine to keep.

I could feel his scorching gaze boring into my naked body, though he said nothing. He would accept my body but never acknowledge the indifferent way I had offered it to him.

We had more in common than I realized. Stubborn, but not enough to forego the things we wanted.

Good. Because I didn’t plan on participating tonight, and that was how I would reclaim my dignity. I would enjoy tonight by watching the Prince of Darster squirm while he fucked a dead fish.

I shut my eyes because the time for talking was over. I only opened them upon realizing my new husband hadn’t pounced on me. Instead, he was doing a slow perusal.

I thought he would throw me on the bed and get his money’s worth. But he was drinking me in as if he had waited an eternity for this moment. He was in no rush, memorizing every inch of my body and taking mental photos for later.

I should have felt cheap, standing naked in front of a fully dressed man who paid for me, but Kai had the power to make people feel special even under the oddest circumstances. One could hate him but somehow still crave his approval, and I couldn’t help wondering whether he approved.

When he finally reached for me, it was slow, like he didn’t want to scare me off. He lifted me in his arms and gently placed me on the edge of the bed. Then, he made an even more astonishing move.

Kai Cavendish, zillionaire eccentric tycoon, kneeled in front of me to kiss me from head to toe.

He didn’t take my lips, but, otherwise, he didn’t miss an inch of skin, starting from the backs of my ears, trailing his lips to my neck and décolletage. The slight panting and the rise and fall of his chest gave away how badly he had been itching for this moment, but there was no arrogance in his demeanor, nor did he use brute force. He knelt there, looking up at me like a devoted husband ready to worship his wife.

I was so shocked by the humble act that I let him push me back onto the mattress, and I lay there as his lips reached my navel. He pivoted when he got close to what I thought was his destination and restarted his efforts on my thighs. His hand reached up to cup and squeeze my breasts.

Twice, he reached my inner thighs, his tongue darting out to taste my skin, only to swivel at the most pivotal moment. By the time he licked my sex, I was groaning from his teasing and seeking mercy to put an end to it.

He licked me with abundance, his tongue exploring me, moving from one spot to another. He even licked my ass crack and my taut bud, probing his tongue over the hole.

“Oh, God,” I moaned.

I froze as soon as the moan came out. Hadn’t I planned on shutting him out and giving him the cold shoulder?

Clearly, my resoluteness didn’t last long. I couldn’t help myself. I didn’t know someone could go down on you with this type of hunger and enthusiasm. The frantic nature of his endeavor stirred my own. Unable to help myself, I lifted onto my elbows and watched the top of his head as he returned to my sex, head bobbing slightly as he sucked and licked me into a frenzy. I fell back on to the mattress when his tongue lapped against my clit, turning my head side to side as I climbed higher and higher.

“Fuck!” I exclaimed, my resolve wholly forgotten now.

My breathing turned ragged. My vision blurred and my hips moved of their own volition as I came on his tongue. Even after, my hips kept grinding against his face, chasing for more friction.

By the time Kai rose from the carpeted floor, I was placid and spent. However, he wasn’t done, far from it. He grabbed my waist and pulled me closer until my hips rested at the edge of the bed. I must have moved between his caresses. He hovered over me, a hand on each side to cage me in. He watched me for a moment, the same hunger glinting in his eyes as he unzipped his pants and guided himself to my entrance. There were no words of reassurance, not even a warning, before he slammed inside.

I winced and he groaned.

“Fuck,” he grunted, moving against me without letting me adjust to his size. He didn’t ease me into it. The bed moved with each of his thrusts, my back arching at the impact. This would have been unbearably painful if I weren’t already drenched from his previous efforts.

“Shit,” I gasped, unable to catch my breath.

He grabbed my ass to pull me closer. I didn’t think it was possible to penetrate me more, but he went so deep that I knew I would feel him for days. He repeatedly slammed himself inside me until we were both sweating, and I was ready to tap out.

He lifted me and switched spots without warning, positioning himself beneath me. My seated stance allowed him a full view from below. Our gazes clashed for a palpable connection as he guided me back onto his dick. When I tried to break the intense eye contact, he turned my face back to him with a hand on my cheek. Something urgent in his eyes obliged me to look at him. He stared at where we were connected, his length moving in and out of me, watching himself fuck me with a zeal I had only seen in porn. All the while, I couldn’t tear my gaze away from him.

My eyes only threatened to close when his right hand reached back, his index finger digging into my ass until he found my puckered hole.

“Oh, oh, oh,” I stammered between bated breaths, anticipation rising as he worked his finger inside me.

Something animalistic took hold of me when his blunt finger probed my ass. I caught my reflection on the floor-length mirror across the room, and for a moment I didn’t recognize the stranger staring back at me.

I looked like a woman reaching for nirvana, the furthest thing from unaffected. If anything, I was on fire and completely engaged. Kai had somehow touched the depths of my soul, a part I didn’t know existed.

It was my last thought before I exploded with a violent climax that had me screaming his name.

I went limp, ready to collapse against his chest. But he held me still, moving me to his will and fucking me until he followed me into the same abyss. Only then did he release me and let me succumb in his arms. We panted in unison, our breathing loud over the hum of the air conditioning.

What the hell just happened?

I came for him, twice. I came for my new husband, one I had vowed to hate. Was my love for Stefan so weak that I surrendered to another man within one night?

Or was Kai’s sorcery so powerful it could easily bend your mind? He had barely put in an effort, and I was eating out of the palm of his hand.

What drug was he made of?

The last shred of my dignity had turned into dust, yet it didn’t feel like Kai had broken me. Perhaps it was because he seemed more affected than I was.

Kai was trembling. His eyes had darkened to a threatening black, mimicking more beast than human. He appeared to be restraining his inner demons, like he was toeing the thin line to taking me again, but this time it would be so rough it would wreck me for life.

He faced the ceiling, eyes closed. I thought he was asleep until his quiet confession filled the room. “You were a freshman the first time I saw you, and I knew immediately you were meant to be mine.”

I stopped breathing and my mind went blank.

“But then I saw you with him, and the more I learned about you two, the more I realized you would never leave him.” He opened his eyes and turned his black, dilated pupils to me. “Try not to hate me for this. Because there was no other way of making you mine.”
