Chapter 40
Bane
It’s way later than I want when I finally get back to the clubhouse.
I had left early to track Cutt but lost the slippery fucker. Then Ash called to say that Tommaso Santoro had finally succumbed to his lung disease. The Santoros are part of the Chamber, and our close allies, so we went to pay our respects to the family.
After us Council members had left, I went out to hunt down Cutt again, and only came back to the clubhouse when Ash came to replace me.
I’m bone-tired and wanting my girl.
So when I look at my phone for the latest update from Liam and see that she’s in the bar, of all places, I’m not very happy.
I’m greedy and want her all to myself. I stop in the doorway and see her sitting at the bar counter, and my possessiveness roars to life while Tats smiles at her, sitting on a barstool beside her.
Besides running a tattoo shop that’s booked a year in advance and being our top cleaner and knowing how to get rid of a body, the bastard is a pussy-magnet.
And he’s smiling at my woman.
Who now tilts her head back and laughs.
Her smiles and laughs were so few to start with, but they’re more common now. But I feel an irrational possessiveness that all her laughter and smiles are mine. I own them, just like I want to own this beautiful, fiercely strong warrior woman.
My future Old Lady. My future wife.
If she’ll have me, of course.
I stalk deeper into the bar, my fists clenched. As I approach, Tats sees me and turns with a grin. “Hey, brother.”
I shove him, but he catches himself before falling off the barstool. His grin broadens, but he wisely keeps his mouth shut.
Breaker, who was saying something to Slade, pauses and straightens, when he sees me. I ignore everyone as Slade spins in her seat, and more sparks of light fill her big green eyes when she sees me.
“Liam,” I growl without looking away from Slade. “You’re dismissed from duty tonight.”
Then I haul Slade off her seat, tossing her over my shoulder and clamping my hand over her curvy ass while she beats on my back and curses me like a sailor, and I grin and walk out the door.
