31. Chelsi

CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE

chelsi

Can women get the female equivalent of blue balls? If so, I definitely have it. This man has pulled out all the stops for me. Went above and beyond any expectation I could ever have for a date. Wooed me so goddamn good I don’t think anyone else will ever be able to top it.

I’m not sure I’d want anyone to.

Nestled into the crook of his arm in his truck bed, lying on a bed of pillows and blankets, I’ve never felt more at home anywhere else in the entire world. Not my condo in Chicago. Not my parents’ house. Nowhere but with Alex.

If this is how I feel after only a few days of getting to know him, what’s it going to be like after a month? Two months? A year?

Part of me is waiting for the other shoe to drop. The red flag he must keep hidden, making it impossible for anyone to find. There has to be something wrong with him. Men like Alex are few and far between…and they definitely aren’t interested in me.

Maybe if I looked harder. Poke around in his past. Sneak into his apartment and go through his drawers. You can always tell a lot about someone by what they keep in their nightstand.

The top two drawers of mine are filled with my current favorite vibrators, the ones on rotation every night. Tasked with helping me get to sleep and preventing me from jumping into bed with some random guy to fulfill my sexual needs.

Or at least they used to do that. Ever since last weekend, I’ve been unable to quench my desire, no matter how many orgasms I give myself. It’s never enough.

I’m pretty sure it’s all Alex’s fault. My body craves him. One look from him sets my core ablaze. A single touch and I’m practically begging for more. I’ll probably orgasm when he kisses me for the first time, given how tightly wound I am at the moment.

God, is this how Kate feels all the time when she’s not with Jake? Constantly on edge, with a hunger only he can satiate? If so, I take back all the shit I’ve given them in the past about fucking like bunnies because I get it now.

“Are you comfortable?” he asks, pulling me in tight as the movie gets close to the end. The warmth of his breath trails down my neck, making me sink further into his arms.

“I’m perfect. Everything about tonight has been better than I could’ve imagined. You didn’t have to go to all this trouble,” I reply, picking at the fuzz on the blanket. “I highly doubt watching How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days was on your bucket list.”

He chuckles and kisses the top of my head. “Can’t say I’ve had the privilege of watching it before, but I know it’s one of your favorites.”

I gaze up at him, wondering what I did to deserve this kind of treatment. Praying I can figure out a way to keep him.

As the credits roll, we lie there quietly, taking in the sounds of an early summer night and enjoying each other’s presence. Mentally, I’m attempting to store every second of this date in my memory vault, never wanting to forget a moment of it.

Tilting his head against mine, he sighs deeply. “I should probably get you home. Don’t want you to be overly tired for another day at your new internship. Plus, I assume Mom and Dad are anxiously waiting up for you.”

I burst out laughing, imagining Kate and Jake frantically pacing the living room as they check the clock every few minutes, wondering when I’ll walk in the door.

Based on the multiple texts Kate has already sent me, I anticipate she’ll want a full debrief as soon as I cross the threshold.

Jake will probably be at her side, counting down the minutes until he can gloat about his matchmaking capabilities.

“Definitely don’t want to keep them waiting,” I reply, untangling myself from the pile of covers and making my way across the truck bed and dropping onto the ground. “I’ll help you pack up.”

“That would be great.”

Alex gets out of the truck, and we work in tandem, folding blankets, grabbing pillows, and putting away the bevy of snacks. It takes less than ten minutes until we have everything packed up and we’re in the front seat, heading down the gravel road on the way back to Kate and Jake’s.

“I had a great time,” I say softly, nervous about what happens next. Curious when I’ll get to see him again, since he leaves tomorrow to go on tour for the weekend.

“Me, too.” His right hand reaches across the truck, resting on my bare thigh. “Is this okay?”

Really wish I knew what he means by okay because his touch has lit a fuse in my pussy that is going to need a firehose to put out. Most likely his, and God only knows when that will happen.

If my body reacts this way to his hand on my leg, I’m so fucked the moment he gets me naked. Literally and figuratively.

“Yes,” I gasp, trying to control the raging desire I have for him and keep myself from begging him to touch me more.

He takes a deep breath, looking straight ahead. “I know it’s only our first date, but I’d like to make my intentions about you clear.”

Oh, sweet Jesus. He has “intentions.” And he wants to tell me about them? I’m not sure how to react, considering every other man I’ve been with has avoided these types of conversations like the plague or told me a bunch of lies in the hopes of getting me into his bed.

“Okay.”

“Although I have to leave town tomorrow, I’d like to be able to call and text you every day. I also want to take you on a second date when I get back. I already have something in mind. Would that be okay?”

“I’d love that, Alex. I wasn’t sure what to expect after tonight,” I reply sheepishly. “I’m used to guys taking a week or longer to call me, not planning a second date before the first one is over.”

He grins. “Good. Glad to know I’m setting a new bar for you on what to expect.” He pauses, gripping the steering wheel tighter. “I’m not sure how to say this next part. I don’t want you to get the wrong idea…”

I tense, unsure of what he’s about to say and worried it’ll bring me down from the high I’m currently feeling.

“I may not have a lot of experience in dating, but I do know I can’t share—especially not you. If we’re going to give this a real try, you’re mine and only mine.”

Holy shit. This man is about to make me come just from talking.

“And what about you?” I ask, placing my hand on top of his on my thigh.

“I’d be yours. Only yours.”

Yep. Definitely going to orgasm if he keeps this up. Who knew conversations about monogamy could be so hot?

“Would that be okay?” he asks, a hint of trepidation in his voice.

“It’s more than okay, Alex.”

A wide grin spreads across his face, and he squeezes my thigh, causing all logical thought to escape my mind.

When Alex parks in front of the house, I swear I see shadows dart across the front windows. Mom and Dad are definitely waiting up for me.

Alex lets himself out of the truck, walks around to my side, and opens my door.

He takes my hand as we make our way to the front porch.

The anticipation I have is through the roof.

I know in my bones that he’s going to kiss me for the first time, and I have this innate sense that it’s going to change my life.

He turns to face me and cups my cheek with one hand. “I’ve had the best time with you, Chelsi. I wish the evening didn’t have to end.”

“Me, too. This has been the best first date of my life,” I whisper, locking eyes with him as I try to convey through unspoken words how much tonight meant to me. How much he’s starting to mean to me. It’s scary, overwhelming, and oddly comforting at the same time.

I’ve always heard there are moments in your life when time stands still. When everything disappears around you. And that’s exactly what happens when he kisses me.

The world stops spinning.

He gently presses his lips against mine, sending shockwaves through every inch of my being. Claiming me in a way I didn’t know could happen with a single kiss. Making me feel such euphoria, I can’t control the soft moan escaping from my mouth.

That sound causes him to snap, and an intense hunger flashes in his eyes.

He parts his mouth open as I mirror it, allowing our tongues to touch and tangle in a beautifully choreographed symphony—one that feels like we’ve done it a hundred times.

Like we were meant to do it. Tonight. And possibly forever.

“Fuck, Chelsi,” Alex pants, dropping his forehead to mine. “I could kiss you all night.”

I nod in agreement, trying to catch my breath. “You deserve an award for tonight. Best first date. Best first kiss.”

He chuckles, wrapping his arm around my waist. “If the award means tonight was your last first kiss ever, I’ll gladly take it.” He softly kisses my forehead. “Good night, Chelsi. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.”

As he walks away, I’m tempted to chase after him because every step he takes makes me feel a little emptier inside.

Like he’s already woven himself into the fabric of my life.

Into my heart.

In my soul.

And I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to let him go.
