Chapter 14
Our days
"If at least once in my life I noticed you without a book in your hands, I thought it was a dream," Lily sits down next to me and kisses me on the cheek.
"Hi." I smile and close the book. "Tomorrow is an important day."
"Do you feel better? In the past few days, you’ve gone to more lessons than usual." Lily opens a Coke and takes a sip.
"The internship made me think about how much I lose when I don't study." I take my bag, open it and put a book in it.
"By the way, how is your internship?"
"Nothing interesting yet, but on Saturday I was finally allowed to administer IV on the patient."
"Wow, congratulations, and how was it?
"Yeah," I purse my lips, "I almost did it first time."
"Let’s be honest?" Lily raises her thin brown eyebrows.
"The third time."
"This is already better than half of our group would do," Lily comforts me, I move closer to her and put my head on her shoulder.
"I know that I asked for this internship myself, but I am so tired. This is the third weekend that I wake up at seven in the morning and come home at eight at night."
"You don't have to stay there, tell your mom that you're tired and that's it."
"Actually, it’s very interesting." And to top it all off, my pride will never allow me to say that I'm not good at something.
"Was Danylo helping you?"
"We saw each other two weeks ago, he is probably working different days."
"Yeah, I haven't seen him for a long time either, I heard that he returned home to talk about something with his father." "About what?" I am surprised.
"I don't know," Lily shrugs.
"Do you know his father?"
"Not, personally, but who doesn't know Yaroslav Bondar," she laughs and sips a coke.
I look at her puzzled.
"Amelia, don't tell me you don't know"
"I'm not interested in other people's lives," I shrug my shoulders.
"Yaroslav Bondar is probably one of the most influential lawyers in the country, he owns the largest law firm."
I would never have thought that Danylo came from a rich family. But now I get why, he is always expensively dressed, works in the best clinic and behaves as if everything here belongs to him.
"As far as I know, he doesn’t have the best relationship with his father, maybe something happened."
"Maybe," that's all I'm saying.
"Oh no, we better go, we're having a general surgery lesson, if we're late, this jerk will kill us," Lily looks at the clock and gets up.
I nod and get up too. I hope there won't be any tests today, otherwise I'm not ready at all.
We go up the stairs, I put my head down, thinking about something, I don't even know what. About everything at once. Internship, Denys, friends...
Danylo.
"Hi," he nods to me and runs down the stairs quickly, not even waiting for my answer.
"Hi," replies Lily.
And only now I realise that he didn't even notice me. Didn't even look at me.
I know that today I'm wearing a grey hoodie and black skinny jeans and compared to the other college girls who are wearing a ton of makeup and see-through tops, I look low-key with my "natural makeup".
But. For a moment, my hair looks perfect, my lips are glossed, and my already thick lashes accentuate my malachite eyes.
Not that it affected me in any way.
Maybe if I wore a T-shirt two sizes smaller, everyone would immediately notice me and my great figure. Although Danylo has already seen me in underwear, twice. Wasn't he impressed?
"Amelia," Lily runs her hand in front of my eyes. "Are you here?"
I don't know how long I thought about all this, but I lagged behind my classmates by a whole page of the lecture.
I turned and sat on the fourth desk, usually Adele and Yara sit behind us, but today they are nowhere to be found.
"Where are the girls?"
"Oh, didn't you see? They texted that they went somewhere with the boys, by the way, we were also invited, we can join them after the lessons if you want," suggests Lily.
I'm ready to say no, because I can't stand parties.
"You said with the boys? Who's there?"
"I don't know, it's someone's house not far from the city, it seems that there is a loud party there, and it's only twelve," Lily takes out her phone and shows the photos that Adele and Yara sent a few minutes ago.
They and several other girls in the company of students, hardly from our university, but in the photo I notice Arthur, KJ and Nazar, the same guys who ruined my Saturday evening with Sebastian a few weeks ago.
And then I notice Danylo, and next to him is his girlfriend.
I breathe in, what seems like all the air, I squeeze the pen in my hands.
"Let's go after the last class," I agree.
"Then you will need to call a taxi, my car is being repaired." "Sebastian will take us," I say, without even asking my brother.
I take out my phone and text him.
Me: In two hours, you will take Lily and me to one house that outside of the city.
I don't even ask, I immediately affirm.
Him: What did you forget there?
Me: It takes a long time to explain.
In general, not so long, I just don't want to explain.
Him: I have time. Go on.
Me: I’m busy. Can't text. Come to the university. I love you.
Him: And I love you too, but you owe me an explanation.
I'm smiling. I will need to jump into the dormitory and change clothes. Do my make up and take a shower.
Yes, I was really not affected by the fact that Danylo did not greet me.
It had no effect at all.
