Chapter 44
M y legs are shaking. I finish my third glass of water. Danylo's father should come any minute, and I don't even know what to say to him.
I offered to wait in the car, but Danylo said that it would be a fiveminute meeting and besides, he wanted to introduce us.
Why? According to the stories I heard, Danylo's father is not the best person.
"Don't worry," his hand hold my knee under the table.
Danylo is always calm and balanced. Even after everything he's been through, he hangs on and doesn't let his emotions get the better of him.
His mother died. His father left him. Betrayal of the wife. Divorce. I avoided him for over two months. And after all that, he's the best person I know.
He is sensual. Good. Gentle. Tender.
A man in his fifties enters the restaurant, but he looks no more than forty. Tall, self-confident, formidable.
I immediately realise that he is Danylo's father. The same dark hair, the same brown eyes and sharp facial features.
He is dressed in an expensive suit. An expensive watch is on his hands.
Two guards are behind. Do all law firms owners travel with bodyguards?
Danylo gets up. I also get up.
"Good afternoon," I greet.
Yaroslav Bondar's gaze falls on me, evaluating all my good and not so good sides. It feels like I'm standing in front of him naked, and I want to cover myself.
He almost imperceptibly rolls his eyes and nods. Without even saying a word. We sit down, Danylo holds my hands. His father's gaze is stern, but Danylo's gaze is no different.
"Sign the papers." Yaroslav starts right away.
"You know my answer." A smile spreads across Danylo's face.
"You left your wife for this." He points to me. "But I will not allow my business to be destroyed."
"So go to hell." Danylo answers calmly. "Not this, but my girlfriend Amelia. And if I have to destroy your business, I will bury you so deep that you will not even work as a law teacher at the university."
Danylo told me that he knows something about his father that will destroy him the second he tells anyone. At first, Yaroslav Bondar blackmailed him, but then he offered to make a deal. He buys from him fifty percent of the company, which rightfully belongs to Danylo through his grandfather. This money will be enough for him for the rest of his life, but Danylo refuses. He wants to destroy his father.
"We made a deal..."
"You made a deal." Says Danylo.
"You understand that it will destroy you, too."
"I don’t care."
"Use your brain at least once in your life." Yaroslav starts to get angry, but Danylo is adamant.
Yaroslav Bondar leans closer to Danylo and whispers sternly:
"She will never allow you to see Timothey." Danylo clenches his fist.
"It's a pity that I'm not a jerk like you. Then I wouldn't care, and I wouldn't try to see my son."
"Do you think I left you because I didn't care?"
"I think you left me because you were a complete bastard. Sorry, I mean you are."
Danylo's father blows up.
"Who you think you are?"
"Who am I? I am Danylo Bondar and I will be the one who will destroy your life."
"I will not leave it like that. You'll pay for it, son." He says, emphasising the last word.
"See you soon, dad." Danylo's face again spreads a smug smile.
I am silent because I don't even know what to say. The Bondars scare me. They are frightening, steadfast, strict.
I suspect that Yaroslav Bondar's car is worth more than my entire house. He is so similar to Danylo and at the same time they are so different.
"Let's go." Danylo orders, leading me out of the restaurant by the hand. "I need to have some fun."
"If you want to drink, then..."
"No, Amelia. Don't drink. You are my entertainment for tonight." His eyes burning with passion slide over my skin, leaving hot traces.
My cheeks are red.
"Get in the car." Danylo opens the door for me. "Please."
I stop for a moment, admiring his beauty. He has dark hair with slight shades from the sunlight. Expressive eyebrows, which are combined with penetrating brown eyes. His posture, broad shoulders, the way he moves express confidence and strength. He attracts the attention of all the girls around.
But he is interested in only one girl in the whole world - me .
