Chapter 10
Tree Lights and Twinkling Moments
The evening air was crisp as Holly Mason and Lucas Harper made their way toward the town square, which was bustling with excitement. The Winter Festival’s main event tonight: the grand tree-lighting ceremony.
The crowd gathered, the massive pine tree standing proudly in the center, covered in ornaments and twinkling lights waiting to be illuminated. Holly clutched her scarf tightly, glancing at Lucas with a smile. “It’s beautiful, isn’t it?”
Lucas squeezed her hand. “Not as beautiful as you,” he said softly, making her blush.
They wandered through the square, stopping at a stall selling handmade ornaments. Holly picked up a delicate glass star. “I think this would be perfect for our tree at home someday,” she said dreamily.
Lucas grinned. “Then we should get two. One for now, one for later.”
They laughed and continued through the festival, sipping cocoa and sampling roasted chestnuts. Lucas nudged her toward a small stage where a local choir was performing carols. Holly hummed along softly, the music mixing with the murmur of the crowd and the crunch of snow beneath their boots.
Finally, the moment arrived. The mayor stepped up, counting down. “Three… two… one…”
The tree burst into life with thousands of sparkling lights, illuminating the faces of everyone around. Holly’s eyes reflected the glow, and she turned to Lucas, who looked at her with a soft, awed expression.
“It’s perfect,” she whispered.
Lucas stepped closer, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. “Not as perfect as this moment,” he murmured, brushing a strand of hair from her face.
Holly leaned into him, feeling the warmth of his coat and the steadiness of his presence. “I think Maplewood has a way of making moments unforgettable,” she said softly.
“And I think we’ve made a few unforgettable moments of our own,” Lucas replied, his voice low and tender.
As the lights twinkled above them and carols filled the air, Holly realized that this holiday had turned into something she hadn’t expected: not just a getaway, but the beginning of a love story — one filled with laughter, warmth, and the promise of many more magical moments together.
