Chapter 10

Fireside Moments

The snow had finally stopped, leaving Willow Creek wrapped in a soft, white silence. Inside The Page Turner, the warmth of the café corner felt like a cozy haven after their outdoor escapades.

Emma was perched on a stool behind the counter, sipping hot chocolate, when Lucas appeared carrying a small bag.

“Thought we could continue our little adventure… indoors,” he said, grinning. He set the bag down, revealing a small board game, two mugs, and a blanket.

Emma laughed, shaking her head. “You really are relentless, you know that?”

“Only when it matters,” he said, winking.

They settled near the fireplace, the flames crackling softly. Emma wrapped herself in the blanket, Lucas pulling the other side around his shoulders. As they played the game, laughter flowed easily, and playful teasing filled the air.

At one point, Lucas reached over, brushing a smudge of chocolate from Emma’s cheek. “You’re impossible to keep clean,” he said, his tone teasing but gentle.

Emma blushed, smiling. “And you’re impossible to resist.”

The moment hung between them, the warmth of the fire, the comfort of the blanket, and the quiet intimacy of being alone together creating a perfect cocoon.

Lucas leaned closer, his voice soft. “Emma… can I be honest?”

“Always,” she replied, meeting his gaze.

“I… I think I’ve been falling for you faster than I expected,” he admitted, eyes searching hers for a reaction.

Emma felt her heart flutter. “Lucas… I think I’ve been falling too,” she whispered.

He smiled, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “Good. Because I’m not planning on stopping anytime soon.”

They leaned back into the warmth of the fire, hands intertwined, enjoying the quiet intimacy and the unspoken promise that their growing feelings were only the beginning.

Outside, the world was cold and snowy, but inside, with Lucas by her side, Emma felt something she hadn’t in a long time—pure, comforting warmth.
