Chapter 11
Talent Show Trouble
The town’s summer talent show was the highlight of Willow Creek’s season, and Clara had somehow convinced Liam to participate. “You’re going to perform,” she declared, “and I’ll be your biggest fan.”
“I don’t perform,” Liam protested, though a mischievous glint in his green eyes suggested he might secretly enjoy the idea.
“You do now,” Clara insisted. “It’s only fair—you’ve dragged me into rowing disasters, ice cream wars, and pie fights. Time to face the stage.”
Reluctantly, Liam agreed, and they spent the afternoon preparing a duet—him on the guitar, Clara singing softly. The small crowd gathered in the town square as the sun began to set, the golden light bouncing off the cobblestones.
Their performance started smoothly, but halfway through, Liam’s guitar string snapped with a loud twang. Clara stifled a laugh, trying not to panic. Liam grinned, shrugging. “I call that… dramatic effect.”
They improvised, turning the mishap into a playful exchange of lyrics and harmonies. By the end, the crowd was clapping and laughing, cheering for the duo’s charm and resilience.
As they bowed, Liam whispered, “See? I told you it would be memorable.”
Clara laughed, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “Memorable, yes. Embarrassing? Possibly. But you were… amazing.”
He leaned closer, his lips near her ear. “You weren’t so bad yourself. In fact… I think I like performing with you.”
Clara’s cheeks flushed as the crowd’s applause continued around them. “Maybe we make a good team,” she murmured.
Walking home hand in hand, their hearts still racing from laughter and excitement, Clara realized that summer with Liam was never dull.
Each mishap, each spontaneous adventure, and each shared smile only made their bond stronger—proof that sometimes love thrived in chaos as much as in quiet moments.
