Chapter 13
The Beach Day Blunder
The next weekend, Clara convinced Liam to join her for a day at Willow Creek Beach. The sun was warm, waves lapping gently at the shore, and seagulls wheeled overhead. Clara brought a colorful beach umbrella, a picnic basket, and a frisbee, determined to make it a perfect day.
“I hope you’re ready,” she teased, spreading the blanket. “Today’s agenda: sun, sand, and me beating you at frisbee.”
Liam smirked, confident. “I doubt that. I’ve been practicing my throwing technique all week.”
They ran along the shore, tossing the frisbee back and forth, laughing as Liam’s throws occasionally went wildly off course. Clara, competitive as ever, was determined to win—and their playful rivalry soon drew the attention of a few onlookers, who smiled at the couple’s antics.
But the day took a sudden twist when Liam’s frisbee accidentally knocked over a small cooler belonging to another family, sending drinks and snacks tumbling into the sand. The family looked upset, and Clara’s cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
“I’m so sorry!” she called out, running over to help. Liam followed, apologizing as best he could.
The misunderstanding lasted only a few moments before the family laughed it off, reassured by Liam and Clara’s sincere apologies. Still, Clara felt a pang of guilt, and Liam noticed.
“Hey,” he said softly, brushing sand from her arm, “don’t let it ruin our day. Accidents happen. We’re still having fun, right?”
Clara nodded, grateful for his understanding. “Right. Fun… messy fun.”
They returned to their blanket, laughing over the incident and teasing each other about who was “responsible” for the disaster. By the end of the day, sunburned and sandy, they lay side by side watching the waves.
“You know,” Liam said, brushing a stray hair from her face, “even with mishaps, I’d choose days like this with you over anything else.”
Clara smiled, resting her head on his shoulder. “Me too. I guess summer is just… better with you.”
The day had its hiccups, but by evening, Clara realized that laughter, forgiveness, and shared chaos only made their connection stronger. Love, she thought, could be messy—but in the best way possible.
