Chapter 18

Carousel and Confessions

Saturday morning dawned bright and crisp. Ethan had a mischievous grin plastered across his face when he arrived at Lila’s apartment.

“Ready for a little adventure?” he asked, a hint of playfulness in his voice.

Lila raised an eyebrow. “Adventure? What kind of adventure?”

“You’ll see,” he replied, tugging her hand as they walked toward the nearby fairground. The air was alive with the scent of popcorn and cotton candy, the laughter of children, and the soft melody of carnival music.

“Ethan, this is… unexpected,” Lila said, laughing as he pulled her toward a brightly painted carousel.

“Perfectly unexpected,” he insisted. “Hop on. I’ve got us a horse.”

They mounted the carousel horses, the world spinning slowly around them. Lila couldn’t help but laugh as Ethan pretended to be a gallant knight, bowing to her with exaggerated flourish.

“You’re ridiculous,” she said, trying to hide the warmth rising in her chest.

“And you love it,” he shot back, eyes sparkling.

As the carousel slowed, their laughter softened into quiet smiles. Ethan leaned slightly closer, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face. Lila’s breath hitched, and for a fleeting moment, the playful energy shifted into something more tender, more intimate.

“You know,” Ethan said softly, “I’ve loved these little moments with you. Just us, having fun, no expectations.”

Lila’s heart fluttered. “Me too. I… I think I’ve been waiting for someone who makes even silly things feel meaningful.”

He grinned, leaning just a little closer. “Then we’re lucky. Because that’s exactly what I want to do. Make the ordinary… unforgettable, with you.”

The carousel came to a gentle stop, and they hopped down, still holding hands. Lila felt a warmth settle in her chest, a gentle reminder that their slow-burn love wasn’t just about big gestures—it was about laughter, small adventures, and stolen moments like this.

And as they walked through the fairground, sharing cotton candy and playful glances, Lila realized that with Ethan, even the simplest day could feel like magic.
