Chapter 5
Snowed Together
The snow came unexpectedly that evening, thick flakes tumbling from the sky and coating the streets of Hawthorne in a soft, white blanket. Ivy glanced out the café window, sighing as she watched the weather worsen.
“Looks like it’s going to be a long night,” she muttered to herself.
Before she could finish, the door chimed. Lucas stepped inside, snow dusting his coat and hair. “I hope I’m not too late,” he said, shaking off the snow. “The roads are… well, let’s just say I might be stuck here for a while.”
Ivy raised an eyebrow, a smile tugging at her lips. “Stuck here? That’s not a problem for me,” she teased, motioning to the empty chairs.
Lucas grinned. “Good. I was hoping for some company.”
As the snowstorm raged outside, the café became a cozy refuge. Ivy and Lucas found themselves talking for hours, the conversation flowing easily from books to childhood memories, favorite songs, and small dreams for the future.
At one point, Lucas noticed Ivy shivering slightly. “You’re cold,” he said, draping his scarf loosely around her shoulders. She felt the warmth of his gesture, a subtle closeness that sent a pleasant shiver through her.
“Thanks,” she murmured, meeting his gaze. The intimacy of the moment made her heart beat faster.
When the storm intensified, the power flickered, and the café lights dimmed. Lucas grabbed a small lantern from the counter, placing it between them. The soft glow cast their faces in gentle light, turning an ordinary evening into something magical.
“You know,” Lucas said softly, “sometimes the best nights happen when everything else goes wrong.”
Ivy smiled, feeling the truth of his words. “I think you’re right.”
They sat together in the warm glow, the snow falling silently outside, sharing stories, laughter, and quiet glances. Each passing moment strengthened the connection between them, a slow-burning intimacy that neither wanted to rush but couldn’t ignore.
By the time the storm passed, Ivy realized that love wasn’t always about dramatic declarations—it was about finding warmth in unexpected moments, and about someone who made even a snowed-in night feel unforgettable.
