Chapter 7 #3

“They’ve always been bad, we’ve just been able to tag team them. You got to deal with them on a solo mission today.”

“Yeah, i'on like that shit.” Ledge continued to gnaw on the salad while moving his head defiantly back and forth. “Much better when we together on some shit.” His dark eyes met mine.

“Kitana was here when I got back.” I revealed, not wanting to get sucked up into him or his bedroom eyes right now.

“The fuck she want?” He grimaced.

“She’s fucking crazy. And I think she’s the one that’s been calling me and left those damn snakes on the porch. I still think they are out there lurking somewhere.”

I could see the wheels turning as he pondered what I said. A deep crease formed in his forehead as he finished the last of my food. Just fuck me and my lunch at this point.

“I’ll take care of it.” He assured me. “Are you good? She didn’t do anything to you, did she?”

“I’m not scared of her, but she is crazy as hell and you need to reel that bitch in,” I warned.

“I was trying not to use violence on this bitch, but she seems to be choosing that for herself so I won’t show any mercy.” He worded, pulling himself to his feet.

He was a little taller than me, so he hovered and our gazes locked as he peered down at me.

“Let me ask you something.”

“What’s that?” I asked, craning my neck as he inched closer to me. “After you just ate all my damn food.”

“Shit, I wanna eat you,” His tongue swiped across his bottom and my clit pumped anxiously between my legs.

We were always good at that. Sex wasn’t the problem between us.

It was deeper than that. Knowledge had that dog tendency where he had to have every single piece of pussy he came across.

That sick need inside him hadn’t been filled.

He was still a little boy and knew nothing about resisting temptation.

His lean arms locked around me, roping me in toward him.

“Ledge—” I tried to wiggle from his embrace, but he only held me tighter against his hard torso.

“Nah… hear me out. Let me take you on a date.” He suggested.

“A date?” I repeated, one brow cocked questionably at him. “Ledge, you got a lot going on right now.”

“I know, and before shit get too crazy, I want to take some time with you. Hear a nigga out. Please?” He begged, but it was sexy as hell.

I can’t lie and say I didn’t love him. He was still the first thing I thought of, and I still prayed for his reckless ass like I always had. Pretending to be annoyed, I rolled my eyes and fought a smile.

“And where is this date going to take place?” I questioned him.

“Wherever you want.” He shrugged. “Name the time and place. The night will be yours.”

“Okay. What are we going to do with the kids?” I asked, draping my arms over his shoulders.

“Shit, have ’em watch they selves, little heathens.” He joked, and I fell against his chest laughing.

“Aye, not too much on my babies.” I swatted his chest.

He tucked his bottom lip between his teeth and simpered. He was still the sexiest thing to me and knew how to make me laugh. Being around him still filled me up inside.

“You know I love them little Bedrock babies. And I love you too. I got you something.” He went into his back pocket and retrieved something in a small gift box.

It wasn’t ring size, but he dropped it into the palm of my hand.

“You are just full of surprises these days. I like this.” I beamed at him while cracking the box open.

A diamond-encrusted choker sat inside, but it had a layered design. A big ass sparkling butterfly was attached, damn near blinding me.

“Ledge—” I touched the pendant and sighed.

I absolutely loved butterflies, and he knew that. He once took me to an exhibit to learn all about them and I fell in love with them. It was the transformation for me. The process of becoming a butterfly was one of life’s best examples of growth and change.

“You like that shit?”

“I love it, it’s beautiful.” I told him. “Thank you.”

He grinned so big and took the necklace out of the box.

I turned around so that he could place the cool ice around my neck and latch it on.

I touched the butterfly once again and suddenly Ledge’s lips were on my neck.

He applied slow, supple kisses, and my lower lips moistened.

I didn’t realize how much I had missed him until right now.

I just wanted him to do right and get right, and stay that way.

Everything he was doing now was shit he should have been doing without me bitching about it.

I faced him, and he barely gave me any space between us.

“Why you can’t be like this all the time?” I tilted my head and a faint hint of a smirk fell on my lips.

“I ain’t perfect, Chev. You know this.”

“Better than anyone.” I responded.

He arched himself forward and our lips met in a strong kiss. His tongue devoured mine, deepening his hold on me. Fisting my hair, he brought our bodies together and his strong hands roamed my body.

“But I love the shit out of you. The best fucking way I know how. A mothafucka gotta go through me to get to you. You got my loyalty for life just for being you, no matter the situation.”

My heart fluttered in my chest. He was laying the butter on extra thick.

His phone went off in his pocket, alerting us both.

Sighing, he went to retrieve it and took a glance at the screen.

I knew him pretty well, so I recognized his business face immediately and tried to pull back.

He gripped my arm tighter, keeping me in place in his embrace while skimming his screen.

“Slow up. I gotta go handle some shit.” He finally tucked his phone and peered down at me.

“I know.” I nodded and he hooked one arm around my neck, locking me in as he took my lips against his.

“Don’t go nowhere. Make sure all this shit is locked up too. If you need me, call me.”

He pulled away and headed to the door.

“Ledge.” I called after him. He paused in the doorway and faced me. “Be careful.”

He winked before turning to go. No matter the weather, it was always going to be him in my heart.

We had gone through the trenches together.

And even after all the other extra toxic bullshit, I held on to the belief that we could get through it and make it to that sweet spot in life.

I had put in so much time and effort, it wasn’t even funny, and I wasn’t about to let the next hoe swoop in.

Ledge had a lot of flaws, but the good outweighed the bad, and if he was up to correcting himself, then I was up to giving him another chance.
