Chapter 6
Chapter six
Tate
There was a bit of a skip in my step after the bookstore, making my way to Kyren’s room to tell him what I’d learned about our mysterious princess.
Jack. That’s what the girl said her name was. Of course, she wouldn’t have a generic female name. It only added to her appeal.
My appearance in the bookstore hadn’t been by accident. I’d already gotten all my books for the semester days ago, wanting to beat the rush.
No, after a knowing look with Kyren, I had followed Jack’s scent through the quad and lingered nearby while she went into the registration office. Several human servants had stopped to chat with me, giving me plenty of excuses if the princess happened to see me.
Kyren’s shadows didn’t give her quite as much space as I did. While he went back to his room, bits of his shadows slid into the darkness beneath her feet, following her into the registration office and then back out again.
I loitered and pretended to be interested in whatever last year’s hookup was rambling on about, waiting for the least amount of time before it was too puppy doggish for me to follow after her.
When Iris’s human servant showed up, I counted my lucky stars. Princess was distracted enough that I was able to keep a few feet back without drawing her attention. Every step, I inhaled more of her intoxicating scent.
Once they were in the bookstore, I ducked behind a bookshelf and waited for my moment as I eavesdropped on their conversation. I’d have felt guilty, except this overwhelming need inside of me told me I needed to know her.
Then, as if by fate, her books fell. I swooped in like Prince Charming, saving the day.
Of course, I didn’t get the praise I expected from any other girl on campus. They’d have gushed at my mere presence. For a second, I almost thought she wasn’t interested in me at all.
Until she stared at me.
Her scent changed faintly to something spicy, and it kept everything in me to not growl low in my throat. Then, in the same breath as thanking me, she threatened to throat-punch me. She couldn’t be more perfect for us.
Without knocking, I opened Kyren’s door. It slammed back against the wall, not even jolting the vampire lounging across his bed with a book in hand.
I inhaled deeply. The scent of cloves and thunderstorms was masked by his arousal, making my own resurface just as easily.
“Are you watching our girl?” I growled low, shutting the door before prowling across the room.
Kyren glanced up from his book, his whiskey-colored eyes dark with desire as he blinked up at me beneath long dark lashes. His ebony hair curled around his ears and slightly tousled over his pale face, just a shade darker than most vampires with his Latin heritage.
I crawled up the edge of his bed, larger than other dorm beds since he had a single room. The wine-colored sheets shifted beneath me with every move closer to him. I grabbed the book from his hand and jerked my arm to throw it.
Kyren’s hand caught my wrist. “You know better.”
Impatient to have him, I gently set the book on the nightstand before crawling between his open legs. My fingers made quick work of the buttons of his sapphire dress shirt.
“Did you see her?” I panted, pressing myself between his slack-clad legs, groaning. He was as hard as I was.
Kyren’s shadows wrapped around my throat, pulling my head back to just the point of pain. “What do you think?”
He leaned forward, his mouth a breath from mine. Not touching… yet. Kyren loved to tease me. Loved to make me work for it. And fuck if I didn’t love it too.
“Kiss me, and I’ll tell you her name.”
His shadows saw me talk to her, smile at her, touch her, but he couldn’t hear what we said.
Kyren shoved his hand into the front of my sweatpants, grasping me in his hand. “Tell me and I won't make you beg before you cum.”
I grinned against his lips. “We both know that’s a lie.”
His tongue flicked out, tracing my lips before tugging on my lip ring. The hand on me tightened, sliding up and down my length until I was panting into his mouth.
“Kyren,” I groaned, hips jerking into his hand.
Then, like the asshole he was, he stopped.
“Tell me.” Kyren brushed his lips against mine.
My eyes popped open, a sly smirk creeping up my face. “Tell you what?”
“Don’t be a brat.” His fingers tugged on one of the six bar bells on my dick.
I hissed, hips jerking forward. “For that, I should make you find out for yourself.
His shadows tightened on my throat. “Someone doesn’t want to cum tonight.”
“I’ve got two hands. I can do it myself.”
Kyren shoved me onto the bed until I was flat on my back. His shadows wrapped around each limb until I couldn’t move.
“Do you now?” He stroked his hand lazily up and down my length, never giving me quite enough pressure. “Maybe I’ll leave you like this all night, edging you until you beg. Then maybe you’ll tell me.”
The idea had its merits. It wouldn't be the first time we’d played this game. Except I was too worked up over Jack to play the brat for too long.
“Please,” I grunted, hips tilting up. “I’ll tell you. Just… fuck. Squeeze your hand. Put me in your mouth. Something!”
Kyren’s lips curled. “Tell me first.”
“It’s Jack. Her name is Jack. Now please, Kyren! I need…”
His mouth wrapped around my length, ripping a curse from me. Shadows gently twisted and cupped my balls, tugging enough to make my hips buck up, shoving my length further down Kyren’s throat.
An expert at making me beg, Kyren sucked and licked until I writhed and cried out for more before pulling back slightly.
“Kyren,” I whined, pulling at my restraints.
Wrapping his fingers around my length, he stroked it firmly. “Next time I send you for information, what will you do?”
I pulled my lip ring between my teeth so close to the edge and knowing Kyren wouldn’t come until he was good and ready.
“Tell you.”
He languidly lapped at my tip, swirling his tongue in the slit on top. “And?”
“Not be a brat,” I grunted, my jaw clenched tight.
“Excellent. You may cum now.” He sucked on the tip hard as his hand moved up and down the rest of me. He didn't stop this time, not until I shouted my release, filling his mouth as he swallowed me down.
An image of that beautiful dark-haired beauty flashed behind my eyes.
Jesus fuck.
If just the thought of her made me come this hard, I could hardly wait to see what it would be like with her. That’s if I could get past those defenses she clearly had stacked sky high.
“Have you met your roommate yet?” Kyren asked out of the blue, his shadows releasing me to collapse on the bed as he reached for his book once more.
Still trying to bring my heart rate back down to normal, I swallowed and shook my head.
“You should probably see if they’ve arrived yet. Wouldn’t do to wait too long and not be able to change roommates.”
I rolled over and crawled up to lean over him. “Then I’ll just bunk with you.” I smacked a kiss on his lips before bouncing off the bed.
“You did that last year. Remember, you wanted the full human servant experience this time,” he commented, not looking up from his book this time.
I grimaced as I walked to the door. “Yeah, but that doesn’t mean I want a messy roommate or one that snores. You might not actually be the undead, but you sleep like it.”
Kyren’s lips twitched.
With a half wave to him, I made my way from the vampire crypt, as the academy so pleasantly liked to name the vampire dorms, and over to the attached building that housed the human servants.
The halls were bustling with students moving in or getting ready for classes tomorrow. Several waved or greeted me that knew me from last year. I nodded with a polite smile, ready to get to my room and see who the admin has stuck me with this time.
A familiar scent filled my nose as I approached my room. My eyes widened while it grew stronger with each step. I unlocked the room and pushed the door open.
Seeing it empty, I quickly stepped inside and inhaled. The lethal combination of dangerous and sweet hit me.
Why was Jack’s scent here? Had she come looking for me?
My heart skipped an excited beat. Then I frowned as my eyes locked on a familiar object.
I picked it up. Her helmet. If she only came looking at me, why would this be here? Then my gaze dropped to the bag of books on the bed. The same books I’d seen her walk out of the bookstore with less than an hour ago.
Holding the helmet, I turned to take in what else was new in the room when the door handle turned.
In stepped the woman of my and Kyren’s dreams. Hair wet, which made the thin white tank top she wore to stick to her like a second skin.
I inhaled sharply.
Jack’s eyes lifted from her phone to land on me and then her helmet. Her body froze, eyes narrowing.
Hands up, I lifted the helmet and made a show of setting it back on her desk. Because, without a doubt, it was her desk.
I didn’t know how it happened. Roommates were usually the same gender to lower the likelihood of them dating and needing to change a few months later. Whoever assigned Jack to my room had made a mistake, a mistake that in no way had been reported by me.
“Are you stalking me now?” She crossed her arms over her chest, which only amplified the wet parts of her shirt and showcased the sports brow covering her generous chest.
Using all my willpower, I kept my eyes on her face and not the parts I wanted to bury my face between.
I chuckled and tugged on my lip ring. “Now, hold up, princess, before you go threatening to throat-punch me again, I wasn’t stalking you.” This time, I added to myself, but she didn’t need to know that bit.
Those pale brown eyes skimmed over me and then to my bed. She let out a resigned sigh before dropping her arms. “I suppose that means you’re my new roommate.”
“Looks like it.” Luna couldn’t have blessed me more than she had right this minute. I’d wanted a way to get closer to my princess, and now I had one.
“Well, I hope you don't snore.” She tossed her toiletry bag on the bed before going about unpacking a small backpack.
Curiosity got the better of me. “Is that all you brought?”
Shrugging a shoulder, she didn’t seem bothered. “I enrolled in a hurry. Wasn’t much time to bring much with me. I’ll just order anything extra I need online.”
I sat on the edge of my bed so she would have some semblance of space, though every neuron in me wanted to be pressed up against her delicious scent every second of the day. Holding that desire back, I tried to figure her out.
“I heard you mention to that girl… Uh…” Her name was lost to me.
“Xinyi.”
“Yeah, Iris’s girl.” I clicked my fingers together with a grin. “You just became a human servant?”
Jack glanced over her shoulder at me. “Uh, yeah. A few months ago.”
“And your master? Who are they? Are they here?”
She paused her unpacking to face me, hands on her hips. “You sure ask a lot of questions.”
“Just want to know who my competition is.” I let a playful grin out and a wink.
Her eyes rolled at my antics. “Alora is my mistress. No, she’s not here.”
Alora. I didn’t know that name. I’d have to ask Kyren about her later. Now, for the most important question.
“And you and her…?” I trailed off, wagging my brows.
Jack’s face turned a delicious color of red that went down her chest and disappeared beneath her shirt. It made me want to see how far down it went.
If I played this right, maybe I would get to one day.
“No,” she grumbled without looking me in the eye. “We’re not like that. It’s more a mother-daughter kind of relationship.”
I bobbed my head in understanding. Most human servants were close with their vampire masters. Some bonds were emotional, others sexually, and others, like Kyren and all, were both.
Still, it wasn’t unheard of for a master to leave their human servant here for a time. There were a couple others here that were given the same lot as Jack but, from what they told me, it was uncomfortable being so far away from their master, like a phantom limb was missing.
My lips pressed tight together, head cocked as I let another piece of the puzzle that was Jack fall into place.
“Is that all your questions, or can I get back to unpacking?” she rushed out, obviously uncomfortable with the conversation.
Exactly how sheltered was this girl? If the vibe she was giving off was any indication of her experience level, she was going to be in for quite a surprise once classes started.
“Actually…” I drew out wanting to spend more time talking to her. “How do you feel about Mexican?”
