30. Margo
Chapter 30
Margo
I got thrown in the passenger seat by Ben, forcefully.
“Ben, he didn’t mean any harm.” I cautioned.
I saw nothing but fury and vain in Ben’s eyes. He walked angrily over to the driver’s side of the car, locking all of the doors.
The car had all of its windows tinted and I was normally very happy about that decision. Every wealthy family in Hawthorne is worth a lot of money, and danger was never, not considered when being in a vehicle.
I never thought about being in danger inside of the vehicle and Ben was nothing but dangerous.
He turned his body towards me, his large hand wrapped around my throat and squeezed my airway. Ben’s other hand pulled my hair, forcing my eyes over to his.
“Don’t ever embarrass me like that again.” He raged.
I felt my heart drop to my stomach, tears in my eyes started to run down my cheek.
It was like I was trapped in a nightmare; I was about to live the rest of my life in constant fear of Ben, he was unpredictable and only gave his outburst of rage towards me.
I felt helpless, I was never a girl to walk around anyone in eggshells but by the grace of my luck, my fiancé who I thought was a wonderful guy turned out to be a monster who liked to hurt me.
Ben squeezed tighter and I couldn’t back away, I just sat there all tensed up.
“I’m sorry.” I mumbled in a low voice, the most I could get out while he had his hand wrapped around my neck.
Ben loosened his grip but forcefully kissed me.
“Margo, I don’t want other men touching you.” He growled as he lowered his slobber of a kiss down to my neck.
I felt sore, like I would bruise again, such as my wrists.
I could only cry silently as he released my hair from his rough hold. I felt helpless and scared of anything that he was capable of.
I was scared of what he would do to me, my family and what he would do with Liam.
I knew Liam could always handle himself, but I also never experienced such fear from someone like I did with Ben.
Liam had only ever made me feel safe, even if he hurt me, he was never one to make me feel unsafe and scared of him. He would never lay a hand on me, not if I didn’t want it.
Ben had a reason to be jealous and threatened by Liam. Not only because we have history but because Liam was a type of man that many men would always compare themselves to.
He was wealthy, he was built, he has a family, friends that would do anything for him, he had a hound of ladies that surrounded him everywhere he went.
He is talented in hockey and even if he acted stupid, he was one of the smartest guys I knew.
“I forgive you, Margo.” Ben pondered, before he put the car in drive. My heart started to slow down as he drove.
I never started a conversation with Ben ever since he put his hands on me. I only turned to face the right passenger window and stare out in the abyss.
I would sometimes find my reflection in the window of the car, and when I did, I didn’t even recognize myself.
“I have to go and attend this game.” I shuddered as he gave me a quick look of annoyance.
“You’re not going.” He asserted.
Ben looked dangerous in this very moment, like nothing on this earth could ever get to him or scold him that he was acting irrationally.
I couldn’t talk, it was like my body wouldn’t let me without his permission. I wanted to call for help, every bone in my body wanted to ask for forgiveness so that he wouldn’t put his hands on me again.
But I couldn’t, it was like I physically couldn’t do anything about it. I was helpless, I could only be strong so that I could help my parents.
This was all for them.
We arrived back at my house, I shakily walked towards my room like it was my only place of solitude, but I was wrong. The moment I had opened the doors, suitcases and boxes of Ben’s items have laid all around my room.
“You’re moved in?” I asked with a tremble as he grinned.
“Since I’m your husband to be, we need to jumpstart, don’t we?” He looked at me with a malicious gleam in his eyes.
Ben’s phone began to ring, which made me twitch when he moved his hand to grab it from his pocket.
He turned away to answer his call, I turned back around to notice an abundance of shopping bags that filled the closet.
Top of the line brands were laid across from Hermes, Chanel, Ralph Lauren, and Loro Piana.
“You like them?” He came up behind me in a gentle manor, placing his hands on my waist like he didn’t bruise them earlier.
I winced as he kiss the top of my head, “You got gifts.” I said in a low monotone.
Ben turned around, “Of course I would get my fiancé presents, I would be a terrible future husband if I didn’t.”
He was sick and twisted, all of his rage had subsided, and the only thing left was his gentleness that, I was introduced to the first time we met.
“I have work to get back to, at my father’s office, I’ll come home tonight, and we can have some wine in the balcony. I’ll have the help set it up, it could be romantic.” He suggested while he straightened his cuffs.
I nodded, dreading the rest of the day.
He walked out of the room, I followed him out to the front doors, Ben placed a soft kiss on my cheek before he left. I wiped it off the moment he left the driveway with his fancy Bentley.
The help looked around, guarding my every move. I soon realized that Ben had made sure to let them know that I was never to leave their sight.
It made sense that they would be given this advice. It just hurt because they were my help first before Ben, who apparently took over the whole household.
My phone began to ring, seeing that it was from Adrianna. I answered from the second ring, “Hey Anna.” I uttered.
“Hey Margo, I know that you probably wouldn’t care anymore or that you do care but you’re in denial.” She started as I rolled my eyes.
“Just get to the point.” I begged as she took a deep breath.
“Liam’s at the hospital.” She confessed as I felt my whole body weaken.
“What?!” I faltered, “What happened?” I felt my chest heave like I was panicking for a second.
“Grayson just got informed that he slightly tore his ACL during the game when the other team were on him like crazy.” Adrianna expressed as I ran to my room to grab my bag and put on a sweater for more comfort.
“I’m on my way.” I replied to her whist I ran to the garage. I looked at one of my drivers who have driven me around since I was in middle school.
I rung up the phone, and got into one of the available vehicles, “Look Barry, I know you were given strict instructions from Ben to keep me in the house, but I really need to go the hospital this very moment because of Liam.” I pleaded.
Barry looked at me from the rearview mirror and started the engine. I felt my smile reach my ears as he shook his head, “I will always have your back first, Miss Hamilton.”
I ran in the hospital lobby with one vision in mind and it was to see that Liam was safe and okay.
“What room is Liam Brookshire in?” I asked as the lady in the front desk completely ignored me by taking a sip of her coffee.
“Yeah, and I’m pretty sure that Doctor Torrez was with Doctor Aang last night, they’ve been getting pretty cozy.” She muttered to her other coworker.
I tapped my foot with the impatience written all over my face, “I’m sorry but could you just––” I continued but their conversations cut me off once more.
“Wasn’t she with one of the nurses last week though?” Her coworker said in shock as the lady nodded.
I felt a bit of rage fill me as I took a deep breath, “Just please tell me what room I could find Liam Brookshire.” I grumbled.
The lady looked at me, “Only family is allowed to visit him, no girlfriends allowed sweetheart.”
I gave a sour expression, “I’m not his girlfriend.”
“Are you part of his family?” She asked.
“Well–– no.” I stuttered as she laughed.
“So, you aren’t his family, you aren’t even his girlfriend, then no room entry.” She asserted after she took another sip of his coffee.
I slammed my hand on the counter, “Listen lady, if you don’t want me to make a complaint to Doctor Alica Du Pont that your service here is horrible and you can’t take a moment to listen to me, because of both of your gossiping, then I suggest you give me the damn room number.” I threatened as she typed on her computer with fear in her eyes.
I normally wouldn’t use my connections to get ahead… that’s a complete lie. I knew Verina’s mother owned the hospital and knew it would help me in the long run.
But I was sure she wouldn’t mind.
“Room 202.” She glowered at me as I made my way to the elevator.
As the elevator door opened my eyes met with Grayson and Adrianna, who looked like she had just gotten some action.
“Margo!” She affirmed as I squinted my eyes at her.
At the end of the day, I really didn’t care because it wasn’t the reason I was here to begin with.
“Is he okay?” I asked as Grayson looked at me with concern, “Yeah, he’s in surgery so we’ve just been hanging around.”
“So, we have no idea if he’s okay or not.” I swallowed my nervousness down, but it was apparent that it was still visible in my face.
“No, we don’t, but it was just a minor tear, the worst that could happen is that it might take a longer time for him to get back on the ice.” Grayson pondered as I took a deep breath.
The elevator reached the destined floor. My eyes reached the waiting room to meet with Chris, Verina, Neil, Juliette, a little boy, and Liam’s mother.
“Where have you guys been?” Neil hesitated to ask as Grayson and Adrianna only sheepishly smiled at each other.
“You two are gross, you can’t keep your hands away from each other for more than three hours?” The boy says as Grayson rolled his eyes.
“Give me a break Finn, she’s my girlfriend and I don’t have to keep it a secret anymore.” Grayson disclosed as Liam’s mother looked confused.
At the same time, she looked at Adrianna in awe, but I didn’t think it was much to ponder on.
I sat down on the empty couch as everyone gathered around me.
“Margo I’m sure, he’ll be fine.” Verina sat next to me, she put her arm around my back.
There was no point in hiding the fact that I was scared something could go horribly wrong.
I placed my hands in my hair, Juliette sat beside me on the other side, “Yeah Liam has an eighty nine percent chance of being completely fine.” She trailed off.
“I know he’ll be fine guys I’m just worried is all.” I groaned as they all sat in silence.
“I should’ve knocked one of the members out like Grayson did.” Juliette dryly muttered as Verina shouldered her to shut up.
“I’m not fucking licking that!” I turned to Neil who voiced out to Chris while slapping the lollipop out of his hand.
Chris’s face turned into complete anger, “Neil. What. The. Fu––.”
“––Language!” Grayson yelled over to him as Chris paused.
Chris’s head slowly moved to meet Neil’s eyes, in a very scary way.
“Oh, here we go…” Grayson mumbled, he leaned on the back of his seat.
“That was my last lollipop, you had no right to––” Chris screamed at Neil in an extremely angered tone.
“Will you both shut up, you’re both doing my head in.” Grayson yawned out while his legs spread apart, leaning his elbows on the back seat.
“Let the children play.” Finn insisted.
“You’re acting like a baby Chris; It’s just a lollipop.” Neil muttered as Chris did everything in his power to ignore him.
Chris subtlety mocks Neil by mouthing everything he said in a petty way.
“Will you two knock it off!” Finn yelled at both of the boys.
“Can’t you see that this is a very serious moment.” He breathed out.
“Margo clearly looks frightened, because Will is in surgery. Grayson obviously is trying to act calm because his best friend is on an operating table, you guys are acting childish because Liam isn’t here to be the one cracking the jokes.” He clocked all of them as they sat there and stared directly at him.
Everyone was silenced. Including Liam’s mother who was shocked to hear Finn yell at grown adults.
It was safe to say that Liam not being near our presence making his stupid comments or annoying jokes put all of us on edge.
A lmost two hours passed. Adrianna had fallen asleep on Grayson’s lap as he ran his hand through her hair. Finn leaned his head on Verina’s shoulder and her head was laid on Chris’s.
Liam’s mother had been pacing around while Neil was on a call with someone in the other room, Juliette had picked up one of the magazines on the coffee table to read.
I felt like I had been looking at my watch and the ceiling for eternity.
Two doctors finally had walked out to greet Liam’s mother.
Liam’s mother looked at me and waited for me to join her before the doctor would be able to deliver any news. I smiled at her as she held my hand.
“Liam did a great job with the surgery.” He mentioned.
“Since it was just minor it wouldn’t take long for him to recover with doing the right types of physical therapy and medications.” The other doctor had noted.
“What type of exercises would he need to do and what types of medications?” I asked.
I knew it wasn’t my job to make sure Liam recovered but I couldn’t help but want to help, and I would do anything to make sure he was well and alright.
“We can give you the list up at the front desk.” The doctor muttered as I rolled my eyes.
Those ladies at the front desk, wouldn’t help me even if I was dying on the floor.
“He is just resting now but anyone can visit him.” The doctors included before they walked off.
“You should go see him first.” Liam’s mother hinted at me as I shook my head.
“No, you are his mother, you should be the first thing he sees when he wakes up.” I reckoned as she smiled at me before entering Liam’s room.
I looked at Liam’s mother’s mannerism and how much she reminded me of someone I knew, she looked like an angel and everything that Hawthorne parents wanted to be.
She was successful, gorgeous, and kindhearted. I don’t have any clue how on earth she raised Liam to be egotistical and annoying at times. But yet I’m the stupid girl who fell in love with him and practically almost had an attack when I found out he was at the hospital.
I sat back down on the couch; my movement had woken everyone up. Grayson shot up and woke Adrianna.
“Did the doctors say anything?” He questioned.
“Yeah, he’s going to be fine, his mother is checking on him right now.” I reported back as he calmed and sat back down.
Liam’s mother walked back out, looking defeated.
“Is everything okay?” I wondered as she shook her head.
“He refuses to take any of his pain medication,” She walked towards me and Grayson.
Grayson stood back up, “Does he want to see me?” He guessed as she pulled out her hand to stop him.
“No, he just asked for Margo.” She remarked as Grayson fell back down to his seat upset.
“Awh, you’ve been replaced.” Chris laughed at Grayson as he threw him a middle finger.
I stood up and walked into Liam’s room. He was laid on the hospital bed looking irritated and annoyed.
“Liam, thank god you’re okay.” I breathed as I ran up to his bedside.
“You can’t miss me that much already.” He winked at me like a dumb doofus he was.
“I hate you for getting hurt.” I pushed his shoulder as he winced in pain.
“You have to take your pain reliever, you know; I will shove it down your throat if I have to.” I laughed, in a joking manner.
“I don’t need to take any medication.” He groaned.
Liam raised his hand to find mine which rested on his chest. He held on to it like I was what he needed to wind down.
I sat down on the chair beside of his bed, not retrieving my hand from his grasps.
“I don’t need any pain reliever; I just want you next to me to hold my hand.” He whispered as I pulled the chair closer to his bed.
“Okay.”
It didn’t take much time for Liam to fall asleep.
I heard rustling, the three boys, Grayson, Neil, and Chris stood by the doorway looking restlessly at their best friend.
They didn’t say anything much, only stared at Liam holding my hand as he slept.
I didn’t know my role in Liam’s life anymore, I didn’t know what his role was in mine either. I wasn’t sure if we were mature enough to figure it out.
All I knew was that when we needed each other, there was nothing standing in our way to be with each other.
We were each other’s peace, and I was okay with that.
