Chapter Ten

Waylon

S he stands up right in front of me, and I have to grab hold of my instincts and not tip myself forward and faceplant in her pussy.

It’s not the right time to be catching hints of that cherry candy scent or to be thinking about putting my mouth on it.

I’m in my mom’s fucking kitchen for fuck’s sake.

Not to mention she’s just been through something extremely traumatic and is upset.

“Can you give us a minute?” I stand up, so we are all but brushing against one another, and look over at my mom and Terry.

Both of them nod and make a quick exit. As soon as the door shuts, I take Oakley by the arms and pick her up.

She gasps but doesn’t cry out. I walk her over to the island and sit her on top of it before I take the seat right in front of her.

She’s not used to having someone pick her up and put her where they want her. I can tell that by the look on her face.

“Oakley, I need you to answer my question. Is anyone mad at you? Anyone you used to date that might still be…”

“I’ve, um, only ever dated Tommy. He…seemed pretty mad at me when he thought we…”

“No other boyfriends? Nobody else you might have kissed or…?”

“No, Waylon. There was just Tommy. What does that have to do with someone breaking into my apartment?”

“Is there someone who thought you might be more to them, someone who maybe had a crush on you…?”

“Waylon, there’s nobody else.”

“Someone tried to set your apartment on fire, Oakley.”

“What?” All the color drains from her face, and her eyes become unfocused. “What?”

“Someone tried to burn your place down.”

“My mom…”

“She’s staying with a friend, right? That’s what Mom said.”

She nods absentmindedly.

“I’ll call her later on, but for right now, I think she’s safer there.”

“Why would anyone break into a place to rob it and set it on fire, Waylon? It doesn’t make any sense?”

“I don’t think they broke in to rob the place, Oakley. There was some jewelry left lying out in your mom’s room, and some loose money was still on the island in the kitchen.”

“But…why would someone break in if not for money or…?”

I spread her legs so I can wedge myself in between her thighs and pull her closer to me by putting my hands on her hips.

She’s so distracted, she doesn’t argue or act like we don’t do this kind of thing all the time.

I don’t want to tell her how it was some of her things that were used to try to ignite the fuel, things like her underwear and a teddy bear that looked well-loved. I sent it out to be cleaned for her.

“I think someone broke into your house on purpose, Oakley. I think they targeted you, or maybe your mom.”

“Targeted? Why? Why would someone target me? Who? Who would do that?”

“We’re exploring every option…”

“That’s why you want to know who I’ve…been with?

Because you think this is someone who is…

angry over…I’ve only dated Tommy. I don’t have…

,” she swallows and shuts her eyes before opening the soft green orbs and staring at me.

She leans closer to me like she might be sharing a secret between us.

“I’ve only been romantically involved with one person and that… ”

“I don’t need the details, Oakley. Just names and…”

“I never…”

“Oakley, I just…”

“God damn it. Listen to me, Waylon. I’m a virgin. There are no ex-lovers mad because I moved on. No one-night stands. No men out there waiting to be with me. Tommy dumped me because I wouldn’t have sex with him. I’m boring. I…”

I grab her before I can talk myself out of it. My mouth finds hers, and I kiss her into silence. She gasps as I take the kiss deeper and use her gasp to dart my tongue inside her honeyed cavern. Damn she tastes just like candy or sugar or sweet things.

The sound of a gasp that isn’t from the woman currently sitting in my lap with my cock nestled between her softness has me pulling back from the kiss and looking up at the shocked face of my sister.

“What…?”

“I was telling Oakley about her break-in.”

“With your face?”

Well, shit.

Oakley finally opens her eyes and lets out a cute as fuck squeak when she realizes she’s straddling my thighs and firmly in my lap.

“Oh, um, oh.”

She struggles to remove herself, but my hands on her hips hold her in place.

“I was just telling Oakley it’s not safe for her to go back to her home and that she’s going to stay somewhere else for a while.”

“Here. She can stay here with me and Mom and Dad.”

“Actually, I think she would be better off staying with…me.”

“You.” It’s said from two different voices. One. my little sister. and the other…well, that one is sweet and soft and just a little breathy from where I kissed her just seconds ago.

“Waylon…I can’t stay with you…I…”

“I can’t be sure that the reason you were targeted was because of me.”

“Targeted?”

“Because of you?”

“The break-in was on purpose, Terry. They were going for Oakley.”

“There’s something you aren’t telling me, isn’t there? Something you’re still holding back from me? What is it, Waylon? Why are you so sure I’m the one being targeted?”

God damn it! She’s too smart and determined to let it go, and even though the way she is clutching my shirt in both of her hands is cute as shit, I am less than happy.

“He used personal items to try to start the fire.”

“Personal items? Like what?” My sister is trying to work it out as much as Oakley is. “Her books, her clothes, what?”

“Her underwear.” Oakley’s grip on me tightens, and her face pales.

“Oh my God! Oh my…Waylon! What…what am I going to do?” Her breathing is fast and shallow, and I can tell she is seconds away from a full-blown panic attack.

“You’re going to come stay with me, baby. That’s what you are going to do.”
