Heavensent & Hellbent

Prologue

“Angels were created from light;

Jinn were created from a smokeless flame of fire.”

Illuminated by the white moon, the crowd watched the execution taking place within the forest depths.

Fire flickered around the couple tied to the stake, heating their skin—and very soon their bones.

Despite the onlookers, the only sounds were those of the pair’s cries and wood crackling.

The crowd witnessed the flames growing nearer to the boy and girl.

The boy with hair akin to the lightness of the moon, and the girl with wild raven hair resembling the night sky.

Each person observing their murder held an impassive expression—though this was not a moment they would forget. History was being made.

The heat caught up with the couple until it was unbearable for them to scream any longer. The girl shut her eyes as the flames engulfed her, while the boy kept his wide open. It was the sight of her crumbling that killed him. Then he, too, gave in to the fire.
