Chapter 31 #2

My balance had tipped just enough that I couldn’t save myself. I would plummet right over the edge, hurtling towards the rocks and the saltwater rushing over them, streaming down their ridges in rivulets of white foam. And if Micah didn’t catch me, the drop would kill me.

Dead on the rocks, blood washing away with the water, my body limp and cold and claimed by nature.

There was no way to fake the sort of fear those thoughts dripped into my veins.

This was a high I couldn’t get any other way.

Two hundred feet above the ground, pleasure burning deep inside of me, glowing bright in my core. Heat knotting tight and low in my stomach.

Last time I was in this position, I’d wished for wings.

Now, I had them.

Two pairs.

Micah’s broad fingers found my clit, pushing my own away, and my stomach flipped because now he was only holding my throat with one hand. I gasped, choked on my inhales, sucking in as much air as possible, everything in my body tensing.

Micah rubbed my clit mercilessly, ruthlessly forcing my pleasure higher and higher.

I shuddered and moaned, feeling my orgasm threatening to detonate and shatter me completely. I wanted it. I wanted it so badly. I couldn’t think of anything else.

Micah didn’t stop fucking me, nor did he stop his assault on my pathetically swollen clit, and I was still dangling off the edge with only his hand to keep me from falling…

Pleasure exploded from my center, wrecking every inch of me.

It burned and ached and soothed and shattered.

My pussy clamped down on Micah’s cock, squeezing him as my eyes rolled back. Every additional touch of his fingers on me simply pushed the pleasure higher, until it was almost unbearable and I was trembling, shaking, mindlessly letting this wave carry me.

Not long after, Micah’s length swelled inside of me and he followed me to his own ecstasy, flooding me with his cum.

It felt like the world’s greatest reward.

The greatest honor that could’ve been bestowed upon me.

Maybe some people would think it was stupid for me to feel so enamored by Micah’s spend inside of me, but it meant something to me. This was his trust.

He tugged me back a few inches so we were both laying on solid ground, both of us catching our breath. My glazed-over eyes traced invisible shapes in the gloomy sky, my pulse thumping in each of my dirt-smudged fingertips.

Micah helped me get dressed again, wrapping me in a hug as we stared out at the ocean together.

“Can you please take your shirt back off?” I said, careful to keep my words from pushing against anything that would chafe.

“You’re going to jump.” He squeezed me tighter, keeping me anchored to the ground, to him. God, I could sink into this strength for the rest of my life. I could be sustained by this alone.

“I was hoping you’d go with me. I don’t want to just jump.” Not this time, anyway.

“Alright. I’m going to make both of us invisible, do you think you can handle the feeling for a few minutes?”

I nodded eagerly. He took his shirt off.

It was terrifying, really.

We approached the very edge of the cliff again, my belly flipping with the sheerness of the rock face below us.

Micah banded his arms tight around my body, then tilted his head up, eyes on the sky as he leaned backwards without a moment of pause and we plummeted straight off the cliff together. Headfirst, wind ripping, my stomach being yanked upside down, all the breath expelled from my lungs.

I just clung to him tighter. He takes care of me. He keeps me safe.

It was only a few seconds before Micah extended his wings and caught the wind, soaring out over the ocean with me securely in his grasp.

“Ready?” he asked.

I nodded against his chest, the wind tearing brutally across my face, tangling in my long hair.

Micah pushed us higher, back towards the cliff, wings beating powerfully, and then a prickly coldness enveloped me as he turned me so my spine was against his chest.

I clenched my teeth, my eyes widening, my hands grabbing his forearms tighter—even though I could no longer see him.

It was disorienting, but I trusted him completely.

I could still feel his strong arms around me, still hear him when he spoke, asking if I was doing alright. All I could do was nod in response.

We were soaring over the trees, fast and low, almost low enough to touch the tree tops. In the corner of my vision, I swore I saw a glimmer of some sort, something glowing or pulsing in the forest, but we were long past the spot before I could confirm it.

The trees broke open for the road, and I stared at the cars speeding over the asphalt while their drivers had no clue an angel was flying above them.

An angel and the human girl who loved him, caught in his grasp.

Micah brought us a little lower, keeping us in line with the road.

It was familiar, a road I’d been down many times, but now I was thinking again about the roadkill I’d seen with Mason on the shoulder here.

The lifeless doe, lying on the unforgiving pavement, silent and still.

Had she been running when she was hit, fleeing for her life, or had she been stuck standing still? Was she staring at the forest or the headlights?

Micah’s wings were beating strong on either side of us, enough that I could feel the air moving, pressing against me. The wind swept us higher, carrying us up towards the gray clouds, towards the darkening blanket that threatened rain.

Exhilaration filled my lungs along with the fear, making me feel almost weightless. Like I could pretend I was the one flying. The black feathers rippling on the wind were mine.

Micah pivoted to bring us back towards the cliff, then his grip tightened even further as we dropped out of the sky. He slowed us right before we reached the ground, then put me on my feet. As I stepped away from him, the cold cloak of invisibility fell off my shoulders and I could breathe again.

“Thank you,” I said, breathless.

“You’re welcome.”

“I’m kinda cold now.” I wrapped my arms around myself, looking out over the ocean and sniffling as cold wind scraped my cheeks. “Can we go home?”

Micah looped his arm over my shoulders, tucking me against his side as he pulled me away from the cliff, back onto the path in the forest. “Is my house home to you now?”

“I don’t know.” My cheeks flushed with something other than cold, burning pink and shy.

“I’d like it if that was the case. I want you to feel comfortable there.”

“I do,” I promised.

“That’s good.” Micah squeezed me tighter against his side as we walked through the forest. When I turned my head to look up at his face, he looked lighter than normal, like he was thinking, for the first time, maybe we could actually figure a way into the center of his labyrinth together.
