Chapter 27
Chapter Twenty-Seven
Stop-and-go traffic had them creeping along. Kennedy pulled up the GPS app on her phone and got an update on the delay. According to the app, there was a large pile-up on the freeway and it had shut everything down. Kennedy quickly started looking for an alternate route.
Tapping Cree on the shoulder, he leaned back against her so he could look at the phone.
Flipping up her visor, she told him the freeway was shut down.
“If we take the next exit, that puts us on highway eleven. We can connect to highway sixty, which will kick us back onto the Trans-Canada Highway in Renfrew.” She pointed to the different changeups until Cree had an idea.
“It won’t shorten our ride time, but it will keep us moving instead of sitting here. ”
“Great job.” Cree leaned up, pulled out his phone, and shot Eros a message about the pile-up and detour. He told him they’d meet him in Renfrew.”
The brother would see the message when he stopped for gas.
Patting Kennedy’s leg, he shifted the bike into gear and started the arduous task of getting over to the side of the road.
After ten minutes of trying, Kennedy tapped him on the shoulder.
When he looked back, she signalled she was getting off the bike.
“What the fuck are you doing?” he yelled at her.
Kennedy ignored Cree’s yelling. She was tired of asshole drivers. Stepping in front of the car next to them, she held them up so Cree could cut in front of them. Seeing a gap in front of a car in the next lane one car up, she jogged up in front of it and kept it from moving.
Cree rode the bike between the cars and cut through the openings that Kennedy made for him.
When he hit the small shoulder, she climbed back on, tapped his shoulder, and dropped her visor down.
He didn’t have to see her face to know she was pleased with herself.
They’d talk about her putting her life in danger at the next stop.
When they stopped for a break, Cree received a message from Eros telling him to look for him at the Tim Hortons off the highway between Renfrew and the TCH. The idea of a longer break with something hot to drink sounded good to them.
It was smooth sailing all the way to Renfrew.
There was traffic but nothing that held them up.
Just steady moving traffic, which was expected.
Kennedy leaned against Cree’s back, turning her head so her helmet wouldn’t bump his.
She felt his hand drop to her leg. It was his way of comforting her, and she appreciated it.
When she heard the downshift of gears, she leaned back.
“Thank god,” she mumbled, seeing the bright red and white neon sign that read ‘Tim Hortons’.
Her ass was killing her, her hip was barking at her, and she’d had to pee for the last hour.
When Cree backed into a spot next to another bike, Kennedy could barely get off the bike due to having to pee so bad.
Her bladder was so tight, it pained her to move.
Gritting her teeth, she managed to walk quickly inside.
As soon as Cree waved to a guy sitting in the far corner, she darted off to the ladies’ room.
Cree watched Kennedy make a beeline for the bathroom and couldn’t blame her. He also needed to take a piss, but that would have to wait a few minutes longer. Walking to the back area of the coffee shop, he greeted the other nomad. “Nakota! It’s fucking good to see you, my brother.”
Eros nodded. “It’s been too long.” Clapping hands with Cree, he pulled the brother in for a hug.
“Give me a minute to hit the head and we’ll talk for a few before getting back on the road,” Cree told Eros before heading to the bathroom. He passed Kennedy as she came out. “Get in line, why don’t you, iskwew.”
“Headed that way. What do you want?”
“Coffee, black, and anything they have to eat will work.”
“You got it.” Kennedy smiled as Cree kissed her quick before ducking into the men’s room.
Standing in line, Kennedy sensed someone step up behind her and wanted to look back but didn’t dare. Then a deep voice spoke to her. “Are you Running Wolf’s woman?”
Easing her head to the side, Kennedy looked behind her and saw the guy Cree had waved to when they entered the store. Turning around, she gave him a smile. “Eros?”
“That would be me.”
Sticking out her hand, she shook his when he accepted it. “Kennedy, and yes, I am.”
“Nice to meet you, Kennedy.” Eros pointed for her to move up to the counter.
“Can I get one large coffee, black, a fully loaded French vanilla cafe mocha, chicken salad croissant, and a turkey bacon club.” She gave the server a wide smile then added a soup to the order. “Eros, what would you like?” she asked Cree’s friend.
“Umm,” Eros scanned the menu quickly, “give me a large caramel latte supreme and an angus steak and cheese sandwich.”
“Did you get all that, miss?” Kennedy asked nicely at seeing the young woman looking at Eros with goo-goo eyes.
“Got it,” the girl said as she snapped out of it. Kennedy fought the laugh that was bubbling up. Handing her credit card over, she was surprised when Eros snatched it back and handed the girl his card instead.
“I don’t let women pay when they’re with me,” he told the girl behind the counter and added a wink for good measure. Eros didn’t miss the head shake from Kennedy. Moving back, he took the receipt and waited with her.
As he stood there with the couple, Eros could see the fatigue setting in on Cree.
With both storms baring down on them, he knew he couldn’t outrun either one and changed his plans.
“I think I’ll make the run to Montreal with you two.
I’ve been meaning to get over to the clubhouse to appease Teller. ”
“The company would be great,” Cree told Eros.
They sat around longer than they should have. As they headed out for the bikes, Eros put out an SOS for anyone willing to escort them from Renfrew into Old Town.
Knowing it was late on Christmas Eve, Eros wasn’t expecting anyone to answer the call. Getting back on the highway, he was surprised as bikes filed off exits to ride with them.
Cree looked over at Eros as they rode side-by-side. Eros gave him a thumbs up, letting him know he’d sent out the call.
Every rider, independent and support club members, who knew and respected Eros came to assist them.
They ran intervals between exits and onramps.
When one left them, a new one or more would pick them up.
When they arrived in Old Town, the last of the escorts waved them off, leaving them to finish the trip on their own.
Cree, Kennedy, and Eros made it to the clubhouse to find the parking lot empty. Not a bike was in sight as they backed into spots in front of the building. Shutting down the bikes, both men looked around as sleet started falling lightly over the lot.
“Let’s get unpacked and inside before we end up drenched,” Cree told Kennedy as he climbed off the bike. Helping her off, he made sure she was good before unlocking the saddle bags. Pulling out both their bags, he slung them over his shoulder.
Draping his free arm over her shoulders, he led her inside the clubhouse, followed by Eros. When they entered the building, they found it dead quiet and as empty as the parking lot was. “Where the hell is everyone tonight?”
“Brother, it’s well after midnight.”
Cree looked at Eros like he had two heads. “No, something’s going on.” Dropping the bags, he once again pulled out his phone and hit Player up. Surely, he would be there to await his sister’s arrival, unless something had happened.
Cree: Hey, brother, we made it to the clubhouse. Do you know where everyone is?
Player: Shit, we had a situation that needed to be handled and were caught out in this storm.
Cree: Is there a couple spare rooms where we can crash?
Player: Find Zoe. Her room is the second one down the side hallway. Tell Kennedy I’ll see her tomorrow for Christmas. And thank you for getting her here safely.
Cree: No problem. We’ll see everyone tomorrow.
Player: Yep
Shoving his phone away, he winked at Kennedy. “The chapter got called out. Now, they’re stuck waiting out the storm. Player said he’ll see you tomorrow for Christmas.” He knew Kennedy was disappointed despite the smile she gave him. At least he got her there before the holidays had passed them by.
“Stay here with Eros. I’m gonna find Zoe.”
Cree made his way to the hall where the club girls’ rooms were and knocked on the second door. He knew who Zoe was, knew how she worked. When she answered the door, he saw the shocked look on her face. Yeah, it had been a few years since she’d seen him. “Hey, lady.”
Zoe adjusted her silk robe, making sure she didn’t cover everything. She’d been popular with the brothers before Teller came to the chapter. Nibbling on her bottom lip, she let her eyes scan over his body. “Cree. What are you doing here, handsome?”
“I need a room. A couple rooms.”
“Give me a second to grab my slippers.” Zoe stepped back inside her room and slipped on a pair of little fur-covered, heeled slippers. Stepping back into the hallway, she made sure to brush against Cree before he could move back.
Cree sighed at Zoe’s flirting. She was about to be disappointed, unless she wanted to ride Eros. The only sound in the hall was the clicking of Zoe’s heels on the stained concrete floor.
When they entered the main room, he almost ran over Zoe when she stopped short. Moving around her, Cree headed over to Kennedy.
“Zoe, this is my ol’ lady. Kennedy Daily, this is Zoe . . .” He wasn’t sure what her title was now.
“Don’t worry, I’m locked down with Teller these days.” Zoe used her words carefully. She didn’t see the issue with eluding that she was Teller’s woman, even if it wasn’t one hundred percent true.
He watched Zoe run a hand over her robe, causing it to open more, revealing more of her breasts than she should have. “What rooms are available?”
“Come on. Most of the spare rooms are made up.”
They followed Zoe across the room and down a second hallway.
When she pointed to two open doors, telling them they could use those rooms, Cree and Eros thanked her.
Kennedy didn’t give the girl the time of day.
She knew all about needy women, and Zoe was overly needy for attention from handsome men.
“Are you guys hungry? I can make you something to eat.”
Cree found her actions a little suspicious but shrugged them off. “Is that part of being locked down with Teller, Zoe?”
“No, silly,” Zoe cooed at Cree, running a hand down his arm.
Kennedy moved toward the woman, over her flirting with her man. Cree pulled her back, tucking her to his side.
“Your ol’ lady isn’t one of us, is she, Cree?”
“Zoe.”
“Don’t worry, dear, I’m not a sweet butt anymore. I’m over the girls.”
Noise from the other room had everyone looking toward the main room.
Kiki stepped into view wearing just a pair of boy-cut briefs.
The girl’s eyes went wide at seeing Cree and Eros.
“Yeah, the Native’s are back.” She jogged down the hallway, her tits bouncing up and down as she did so.
Eros cut her off before Kiki could jump on Cree.
Instead, he swept her up, letting the girl’s legs wrap around his waist. “I’m good on food, Zoe, thanks. Let’s go have some fun, Kiki.”
The girl squirmed in his arms, rubbing her pussy against Eros’s crotch. “My room or one of the playrooms?”
“Playroom.” Eros followed where Kiki pointed as she started kissing his neck.
He spun around one time, cutting Cree a hard stare.
The brother owed him one for this shit. He had no desire to fuck one of the sweeties after being on the road for two damn days, but to help a brother out, he’d fuck Kiki stupid.
Once Eros and Kiki disappeared from view, Zoe asked again about food. “I’d love something to eat,” Kennedy answered her.
“Sure, hon.”
Kennedy didn’t miss the sarcasm in Zoe’s response. “Zoe?”
“Yes?” Zoe wanted to roll her eyes at Cree’s woman. She had no place at the clubhouse.
“How’d you go from a sweet butt to head woman?” She wasn’t a complete dolt, and she was good at putting things together. It was like numbers—it all added up. And Kennedy was great at numbers. She watched Zoe’s fake smile go sour.
“I started sleeping with the chapter President.”
“So, before that, you fucked everyone in the chapter?” Kennedy asked with a real smile on her face. It tickled her that for a woman who should have thick skin, it was so easy to get under it.
“You’re a smart girl, aren’t you, dear?”
“Yeah, I am, and it’s Kennedy, dear.”
Cree knew when a cat fight was about to break out and cut into the conversation. “Zoe, I can scrounge us up something. You can go back to your room.” When she didn’t move, he told her again more firmly. “Zoe, go.”
“Night.” Kennedy laced that one word with as much sarcasm as she could muster.
“Kennedy.” Cree levelled a hard stare at her. When he was sure Zoe was gone, he stepped into Kennedy’s space. “What did I tell you about saying that word?”
“Not to.”
“Now, are you hungry?”
“I can wait until morning.”
“Me too. Let’s get some sleep.” Cree headed back to the room so he and Kennedy could get some much-needed rest. He prayed no one would wake them up for a week.
