CHAPTER

SEVEN

Jayson downed another shot then slammed his fist down on the bar. He was fuming.

He’d been so fucking furious ever since seeing Lana with his kids at her father’s funeral. His kids.

“She never told me about my own fucking kids,” Jayson growled at Peter.

“You two need to talk. Hash it out. Those kids need both of you.”

“She sure as fuck didn’t when she had them,” Jayson spewed, downing another shot.

“You’re so fucking full of shit. I did need you. I fucking called you. You know what, forget it. You think you know everything. Call your parents. They want to talk to you.”

Jayson swirled around in his bar seat and found a fuming Lana standing there with her two friends. Fuck, why did she have to be so fucking beautiful still?

“Pawning the kids off on my parents already?”

Jayson wasn’t prepared when Lana stormed forward and punched him in the face. She punched him hard enough to knock him off his barstool and onto his drunk ass.

“Call me or come by when you sober the fuck up and want to talk. You and me. None of your friends fielding your fucking calls or your whores answering while you two are fucking. One time, Jayson. You do that shit one more time and the kids and I are on a fucking plane back to Texas. Your parents can come visit them there.”

Jayson watched as Lana walked away, not giving him a chance to respond. Damn, his girl still had fire.

She wasn’t his girl, damn it. What the hell was wrong with him?

“She means it, bud. Tell the cat claw chick she comes near Lana again to rub it in her face she got you back, she’s going to leave for good.”

Jayson looked at the chick talking to him in confusion. He had no idea what the hell she was talking about.

“Oh my God, Jayson! Are you hurt? That bitch just punched you! She needs to be locked up and those babies taken away from her. You need to get proof they are yours before you give her anything!”

“Get the fuck away from me, Ashe. I told you to leave me alone. I’m not interested in your fucking drama.” Jayson pushed the screeching woman away from him.

“Way to talk to your sidepiece!” Sunny shook her head then grabbed Rocky’s arm when she started to advance on the woman called Ashe.

“She’s not my anything. Haven’t touched the bitch since high school. Have no fucking interest in doing it now.” Jayson sneered at Sunny.

“Then make sure the bitch knows it. She comes near Lana or the twins again, I will end her. Well, what’s left of her once Ice gets done with her,” Rocky warned Jayson as she stared at Ashe, daring her to move a muscle.

Jayson slowly got up from the floor and wiped his pants off. When the room spun, he knew he was fucked.

“Shit. We’ve got him. Bring him some clean clothes by the house. He can stay in the guest room. Sunny and I can share a bed for one night. Lana would never forgive herself if something happened to your drunk ass.”

Jayson didn’t fight them when the two women led him out of the bar. He let them put him in the back seat of a car before closing his eyes.

He felt someone slide in beside him but didn’t look to see who it was. From the way his body reacted, he knew without a shadow of doubt that it was Lana.

He’d never known her to be this cold. She was so sweet and loving toward the twins at least.

Shit! He was a father.

Holy shit. He had a son and a daughter.

Now he was wondering what she had told them about him. He was almost afraid to ask.

“Do they even know about me?” he asked quietly.

“Yes. I have been telling them you were off saving the world, protecting them, to make sure the bad guys could never come near them. I told them when it was safe that you would be able to come home and meet them. We will talk about everything when you are sober, so that you remember everything said.”

Jayson stayed quiet for the rest of the ride to Lana’s. When she helped him into the house, his parents were still there.

Well shit. He was definitely going to get an earful from his father later.

His dad will just stare at him, no emotion whatsoever. Just like he was doing right now.

“We can take him home.” He heard his father’s offer.

“He’s already here. He can take my dad’s bed for the night. Peter is bringing him clothes for tomorrow.”

“Good thing he’s off tomorrow or he’d be having one hell of a hangover.”

“True. Why don’t you guys come by tomorrow morning after nine. You can get to know the twins a little more,” Lana suggested before heading down the hallway with him.

Jayson felt the world spin when Lana let him go to fall onto the bed. He felt her remove his shirt and his pants before covering him up with the blanket.

“Why are you being so nice to me right now?” Jayson slurred his words.

Fuck! He didn’t have that much to drink, did he? He couldn’t remember to be honest.

“Because, despite whatever issues we have between us, you are Jay and Dani’s father. I don’t want them to see the anger and the hurt. I want them to see us working together for their sakes.”

“I never stopped loving you, Lana. Even when you shattered my heart.”

“Good night, Jayson.”

Jayson closed his eyes at her words and fell into a fitful sleep. Next thing Jayson knew, Lana was saying his name over and over again, trying to wake him up.

“Jayson, wake up, honey. You’re safe at home. Come back to me. Please.”
