Chapter 10
“Where does the bugaboo think you are, Lay?”
Giggles surface when I look to my left and see the tightness around Quintyn’s eyes accompanying the wrinkles on his forehead.
My heart rate increases at getting an opportunity to be with Quintyn for our first official date.
Pulling off this date has me feeling like I’m getting a chance to escape reality, even if it’s only for today.
“I haven’t talked to him, but I also turned my location off, so he won’t have a chance to stalk me. I want us to have uninterrupted time today without thinking about this being wrong in the eyes of my brother. Tomorrow will worry about itself, but today, it’s just you, me, and a ton of fun.”
“Say less, Lay.”
As the music plays around the car, I sit back and enjoy the remaining drive to Kings Island, where Quintyn and I can let our hair down and simply be two people with a common interest. It’s always crazy how Rome can call himself warding off his friends from sniffing around me and turn around and sleep with more than two of my friends, ending those friendships.
While I didn’t care or have outlandish rules about him being with my friends, his ho-ish ways led to the demise of my closeness with those women.
Blaming me for Rome being a ho is diabolical.
Yet, it’s what happened on several occasions.
“What do you want to do first when we get to the park?” Quintyn asks, cutting into my thoughts.
“Eat. My nervous jitters kept me from putting anything in my stomach, and now I’m paying for it.”
“You’ve gotta let go of that fear, Lay. We’re taking the necessary precautions to keep Roman out of our business.
I know it’s not the best situation for either of us, but for now, we’re building.
When the time is right, we’ll let Roman know what’s up and go from there.
In the meantime, don’t trip. We’re gonna be good.
” The warm, sincere expression in Quintyn’s eyes instantly calms me.
Nodding subtly, I agree to do what he’s instructing and put thoughts of Rome in the back of my mind. My fingers instantly begin snapping when an old Mary J. Blige song starts playing, causing me to lean forward to increase the radio’s volume.
“I remember you singing this song one day when your brother and I came back from shooting hoops at the rec center.”
“Mhm. That day I was in my feelings over Tyrone Jacobs breaking up with me because he said I wasn’t getting with the program, and he had to move on.” I tell Quintyn while frowning.
The program Tyrone wanted me to tune into had to do with sticking his little pecker in my virgin walls.
At the time, I had hopes of Quintyn somehow seeing me and going against Rome to relieve me of my virginity.
My na?ve ass kept that thought process until my senior year in high school when I let Davante Littlejohn have my virginity.
I was mad after seeing Rome and Quintyn making out with two girls in our living room which had me seeking out Davante the very next week.
“Oh, for real? I need to see if that nigga is still living on his great aunt’s couch so I can kick his ass.”
Giggles fall from my mouth, causing me to place my hand over it to contain the merriment surging through me. Unlike Rome, the statement from Quintyn doesn’t feel overbearing, nor is it a turn-off.
“I think he does, but he won’t have a clue what your punches are for after all these years.”
“Hm. It doesn’t even matter. He got me fucked up just the same.”
“Oh my God! My heart is about to jump out of my chest. Why did I let you talk me into going on that rollercoaster?” Water is sliding down my face, and my adrenaline is at an all-time high.
My legs feel like Jello, and I’m hanging onto Quintyn’s arm to stay upright. The nachos and pizza from not long ago threaten to come back up as my stomach flips with each step we take away from the long line of waiting riders.
“You know that I’ll always make sure you’re good. That’s why. Which part did you hate most?” The humor in Quintyn’s tone has me squeezing his bicep, which ultimately backfires when my pearl thumps upon feeling the mountain of muscle.
“Going up that hill and sitting there for countless seconds while my life flashed before my eyes. I knew the drop was coming but I still wasn’t prepared when it happened.”
“Hm. That was the best part. I’m gonna have to work on your scary qualities. This isn’t the last adventure you’ll be embarking on with me.”
My tongue swipes over my suddenly drying lips, and heat increases my body temperature when Quintyn’s hungry gaze lands on me. Warmth flushes my face, and tingles dance along my spine the longer our gazes collide.
“You better stop giving me that look before our next stop be the front gate while making our impromptu exit.” Quintyn’s octave drops, hitting me in my lower region, increasing my hormonal response.
“I’m not sure that is the threat you’re intending it to be, Mr. Layton,” I purr.
The memory of Quintyn’s head between my legs flashes in my mind, reminding me of his ability to handle me.
“Man. You’re killing me, Lay. Let’s get on another rollercoaster so you can cool off for a minute.” A smirk upturns Quintyn’s lips, and his taunting instantly removes my sultry disposition.
Releasing his arm, I walk in front of him, stomping like an irate child whose parents told her she wasn’t getting the kitchen set she wanted.
While I can appreciate Quintyn’s attempt at making this date fun, my lack of sex has me feeling like a born-again virgin.
Being close to Quintyn has me ready to find an empty family restroom so I can have my way with him.
“Aww. Don’t be like that, Lay. Good things come to those who wait patiently.” Quintyn’s voice hits my retreating back, and I lift my hand, flicking him off as his chuckles hit my ears.
Slowing my strides, I turn to look at Quintyn, and the smirk he’s wearing has my sensitive and overactive libido ready to concede.
“Fine, but it better be worth it.”
“Missing the mark will never be something you have to worry about, Lay. Now, which ride do you want to get on next?”
How about the tilt awhirl because I think we have something in common? Damn, Quintyn .
“Um, how about bumper cars and then you can try to win me a teddy bear. I need a big one too.”
“Aren’t we a little old to be crashing into each other?”
“Isn’t that what we’re doing now, or have I been imagining things? Besides, we’re only as old as we feel. Unless somewhere between my thirty-one years of life and your thirty-six, the definition of age changed.”
Shaking his head, Quintyn smirks before speaking, causing me to feel accomplished once I hear his words.
“Bumper cars and then the biggest teddy bear in the park. Say less.”
