Chapter One #3
He chuckles. “Yeah, people like me, but others too. Maybe make this a new start for you? Maybe you can begin to break out of the cocoon you’re trapped in and begin living in the real world,” he says.
Exhaling, I know he’s making sense. I’m not an idiot. That there are other people out there, it’s just that I’ve never met any of them.
Until now.
“So what type of person are you then?” I ask curiously.
He chuckles and rolls on his side, facing me.
“Me? Well, I’m just your normal guy. One who’s living it up as best he can.
My childhood was real fucking different from yours.
My dad didn’t care about us that much. My family was poor, and my dad wasn’t a good role model.
Let’s just say I’m glad I don’t take after him,” Colt tells me with a slight frown.
I can’t imagine being poor. That may sound shallow, but being wealthy has so many perks that I’m unsure how I would cope without money or status.
“So, where did you grow up?” I ask.
“Croydon. My mum still lives in our childhood home. I try to visit her as often as possible, but it’s hard with the band and all,” he says, and I nod.
“Do you like playing music?”
He smiles brightly, his eyes sparkling in such a way that it makes my panties wet instantly, which then has me clenching my thighs together. Even in my drunken state, I know this man is gorgeous.
“I don’t like music. I live for it. Not a day goes by when music isn’t a part of me. I was born to be a musician,” he replies, smiling so big it reaches his eyes.
I can’t help but smile along with him. “It’s a real passion, then?”
“No, it’s not a passion. It is a part of me. I swear my molecules are music notes. Music flows through my veins, and I live and breathe it. It’s hard to explain, but in my twenty-eight years, I know I couldn’t live without it.”
There’s so much passion in his words that I feel the music flowing from his pores.
I wish I were passionate about something.
Anything.
I would love to have something I cared about that much to live for.
“It’s amazing you have this life… something you care so deeply about.”
He smiles. “Yeah, but don’t worry. I have a feeling about you. I’m sure you’re gonna love my music just as much as I do.” Colt winks at me, and I am instantly putty in his hands.
I pull myself together and ask, “What makes you say that?”
“Because everyone loves my music.” He laughs at his own arrogance.
“Seriously? You’re actually that up yourself?” I joke.
He shrugs. “Wait till you hear me. Then you’ll understand.” Colt’s eyes look into mine.
My breath catches, and I realize I’ve stopped breathing only a few seconds later. I take a deep breath that sounds more like a gasp, and he starts to chuckle.
“What?” I ask defensively, furrowing my brows.
“Oh, nothing. You’re pretty adorable, actually.
” I widen my eyes, staring at him, and he looks back at me in all seriousness.
“Sorry, I shouldn’t have said that. But I do think you don’t give yourself enough credit.
Hang out with me for a while, and I will do what I can to help you come out of your shell.
I’ll show you a good time and what it means to have fun, real fun, not luncheons and afternoon tea-type fun.
But the type of fun where you can let your hair down and be you for a while.
Not the person your parents want you to be. ”
I always knew there was a different way to live my life, the way normal people live, but I never thought I’d get the chance to try it out for myself. “Sounds like fun. I’ll come along tonight. It’ll be my first ever rock concert and my first time hanging with normal people.”
He chuckles. “Well, I’m not sure the people you’ll be hanging with can be classed as ‘normal,’ but they’re definitely different from those you’re used to.”
“Well, seeing the world through a different set of eyes will do me good. You seem nice enough, staying with some drunk girl you just met and trying to help her out. If your people are as nice as you, then maybe this won’t be so difficult after all?”
“See? Already stepping out of your comfort zone. I don’t know much about you, but I can tell this is a big deal. I wanna help you out, but on one condition.”
I purse my lips. “What is it?”
“No more crying. That shit freaks me out, and no more damn vodka tonight. As it is, you’ll be hungover tomorrow, and your mouth’ll be like the Sahara Desert. Take it from someone who knows.” He chuckles to himself.
Something about him puts me at ease. All the emotions from the night before weighed me down, but in half an hour, this stranger has come into my life and made me look at things a little differently.
“I have a big day today, and it’s getting late. I’m gonna let you get some sleep because I need some too.” Colt rolls onto his back.
“Thanks for the chat, and thanks for staying. I know you don’t have to, and it says a lot about you that you’re willing to keep me company until I fall asleep.”
“I couldn’t leave you even if I wanted to. I can’t risk you bawling your eyes out again, keeping us all awake,” he teases.
“Yeah, sorry about that.”
“It’s fine, no apologies necessary. I managed to stop you crying, but now you need to rest those beautiful eyes.”
I can’t help but blush. “Okay, thanks again. You can leave when I fall asleep… if you want to.”
“Goodnight, Daddy’s girl,” he jokes.
I laugh. “Goodnight, wannabe rock god.”
He chuckles, and I look at him one last time, noticing the dog tag he’s wearing and seeing what looks like his band name stamped on them before I close my eyes.
Colt starts to hum quietly, the sound soothing, and I instantly relax.
We both lie on our backs, our bodies not touching in any way, but there’s a pulse like a wave of energy surging between us, and it’s so overpowering it’s like an inescapable magnet drawing me to him.
At this moment, I know it could be the start of something risky, something foreign and unknown.
All of this goes against everything I was raised to be.
My body responds to him in a way I’ve never experienced.
One thing is for certain…
I can’t deny the spark that’s generating between us.
Because I feel it in my very soul.
