As much fun as it was to see Cognac get his ass handed to him after talking such a big game, I knew this fight between Cam and Void would be a very different story. Void made his way into the ring to where Cam and I were waiting.
“You think you’re ready for this?” Void challenged. “Don’t worry, I’m not going to take it easy on you.”
“Why would you take it easy on me? I’m here to prove myself to you,” Cam responded, bouncing on his toes.
“Alright, alright, Let’s get this fight started, you two,” I butted in, knowing that if I let this go on longer, they would start their fight before I gave the signal.
Just as I had for Cognac and Cam, I raised my hand, then dropped it, signaling the beginning of their fight.
Cam didn’t waste any time. He went right for the attack, trying to kick out Void’s legs.
This wasn’t your typical MMA match. Cam was here to prove a point, and he was going to use whatever means he had.
What I didn’t think Cam realized was that Void made sure he didn’t go first so he could watch that fight and learn what Cam’s strengths were.
Void would make sure he wouldn’t end up on the ground because Cam was much stronger in his wrestling moves.
Void grabbed Cam’s leg, yanked him off balance, and he crashed down to the mat.
Down on the mats, Void stepped back to make sure Cam wouldn’t reach out and grab him, dragging him down from the ground.
My big guy gave him time to get back to his feet, shake himself off, and get ready to be back in the fight.
Void didn’t have anything to prove. He wanted to see what Cam was made of.
I was curious as well. What did my dark stalker of a knight have in his back pocket to possibly try and beat a giant?
It would seem that Cam was going to try a different approach as I watched him bring his arms up, ready to face off once again.
Darting in, he did a left- right jab, then followed it up with a kick into the ribs.
Void was ready for him. He blocked with his forearms and twisted out of the way of the kick.
He lashed out with his own, hitting Cam right in the hip with his foot.
Cam grunted with the impact of the blow.
I knew it was a solid hit when you could hear the smack of the impact.
Shaking his leg out, he took a lap around the ring, eyeing Void as he walked.
“You’re one tough bastard, you know that?” Cam pointed out.
“Ah, come on. You can’t be quitting already. I’m just getting warmed up,” Void taunted.
“Oh, you wish you were that lucky. Don’t worry, I’m not quitting anytime soon. Just getting a feel for what type of prick you’re going to be,” Cam explained, raising his hands once again. “Do me one favor, though. No broken bones, okay?”
“Yeah, I think I can promise that as long as you don’t hold back and act like a pussy,” Void shot back. “Come on, man, show me what you’re really made of. There’s a lady watching.”
The next attack was so fast I had trouble keeping up with all that was happening.
Void was no longer feeling Cam out. Instead, he was going in for the kill.
Cam did everything he could to try and stay on the defensive—ducking, bobbing, weaving, moving as fast as he could to keep up, staying out of the way of getting hit by Void’s wicked fists.
Just when I thought that Cam was going to be taken out, he managed to sneak under one of Void’s attacks, landing a hit right in the guy’s gut.
Void stumbled back, surprised at the blow.
Then a wicked grin grew on his face. Cam was finally fighting him like he meant it, and Void was here for it.
I had to admit, there was something super sexy about watching two shirtless men beating the crap out of each other as you stood on the sidelines and watched.
I knew that there was something wrong with me, but what could a girl do? What got me hot, got me hot.
The turning point in this battle was the fact I could see Cam getting tired, whereas Void still had boundless energy.
This was the mark of a true fighter—a man who conditioned all parts of his body.
He wasn’t just muscularly fit, he could also outrun you if he needed to.
Building up your stamina was just as important as knowing how to throw a fist. Cam saw it too and did everything he could to try and make this fight last longer.
But there was no way he was going to outlast Void.
So he did the next best thing and threw it all out onto the ring.
Every attack he hit as hard as he could, as fast as he could, trying to land another fatal blow.
Too bad Void was a machine. I could see how good he was in his prime, but I could also see the dark glint in his eye, alluding to why he was kicked out of the MMA.
The big guy and I had matching souls when it came to violence.
It was an odd point to have a connection with someone, but who was I to look a gift horse in the mouth?
The fight came to an end when Cam made a miscalculation.
He thought he could get out of the way of Void’s fist fast enough, but instead, he put himself right in the perfect placement for a hit right to the nose.
It shocked him and knocked him back into the ropes.
Void wasn’t one to let this opportunity pass by.
While Cam was still reeling from the blow, Void kicked his legs out from under him, dropping him to the mats.
This time, he didn’t let Cam recover. He pounced on him, rolling him up into a ball.
All options for Cam were gone. The only thing left to do was to tap out.
Blood streamed down Cam’s face, but all the while, he had a crooked smile on his face, letting me know this fight was just what he hoped it would be.
He knew he wouldn’t win against Void, but he didn’t hold back.
He left everything out on the mats, and against a guy like Void, it was all you could ever hope for.
Void helped Cam to his feet and clapped him on the shoulder. “That was a damn decent fight you gave me, newbie. I know you asked me not to break anything, but you totally walked into that.”
“It’s alright. Women dig scars, right?” Cam asked, grinning at me.
“Hell, who am I to complain? I’ve got more scars on my body than I’ve seen on most people. You like my scars? I’m more than happy to appreciate your scars… it means you’re still alive,” I shared, handing Cam his shirt as he exited the ring.
“No truer words have ever been spoken, little hellcat,” Eagle called, adding in his two cents. “Come on, let’s pack up and head back to the compound. No sense in lingering around here unless there’s something else you need to finish up?”
“Nah, we have two days before the drug bust goes down, so whatever planning we still want to do can be done anywhere,” I agreed.
“It would also help to make sure the plan doesn’t fall on any ears that shouldn’t be listening.
Speaking of, Wes, did you need to go back and clean up things in your office? ”
“Shortcake, if they manage to get into my office after all these years, then they deserve to have a look around,” Wes said, stretching his arms over his head so his shirt rode up, showing me a glimpse of his abs.
I didn’t try to fight the urge to ogle him, so when he caught my eye and gave me a wink, I just returned it. “Then let’s get the hell out of dodge. I could really go for a home-cooked dinner by Eagle.”
“What, your meal wasn’t good enough for you last night, you need me to cook you dinner tonight too?” Eagle asked, snaking an arm around my waist and yanking me up against his chest as he nuzzled his beard into my neck. “You’re becoming quite the spoiled little hellcat, aren’t you?”
“I mean, I’d offer to cook for you guys, but I don’t feel like killing everyone or blowing up another house while I’m at it.” I laughed, shoving him off me.
All the guys turned to Wes like they didn’t believe me. “Oh, she’s not kidding about that.”
“See, and here I was thinking Harper was exaggerating when she told me about her destroying two popcorn machines,” Picasso said, shaking his head.
“Nope, the sprinklers even went off the second time it happened and soaked the entire basement. I had to replace all the electronics along with the popcorn maker,” I admitted as I kicked a rock across the parking lot.
“Here’s the real test, though,” Cam spoke up. “Who’s cooking do you like better, Weston’s or Eagle’s?”
I spun on my heel so I could face Cam but didn’t count on the fact he was so close, and I face-planted into his chest. “Fuck.”
“Easy there, beautiful. I know this busted nose of mine gets you all hot and bothered but no need to give me more bruises.” Cam chuckled, catching my shoulders.
Batting away his hand, I took a step back and narrowed my gaze at him.
“Why do you keep trying to get me in trouble with them? It doesn’t make any sense to me.
It’s not going to make them leave me so you can swoop in and keep me all for yourself.
The only thing I can think of is that you just like getting punched. ”
“What makes you think I’m trying to get them mad at you?” Cam inquired.
“Oh, don’t you pull that mind game on me, Cameron.
I know all your tricks, and this isn’t going to end pretty if you keep poking the bear, which is me if you couldn’t figure that out.
Even if I have one arm tied up, I can still drop you to the ground faster than you can say boo,” I snapped, stabbing him with my pointer finger. “Cut that shit out, now.”
