“You don’t have to make it obvious D, try again after an hour...okay? An hour’s rest for you.” Kabir speaks, barely holding on to patience while Mira eyes him not to make it obvious.
Which obviously I have no issues with... I love these guys.
I’ve been training with them for the past three days. And as much as they’d be pissed at me for being too slow, I have improved. I’ve been learning self-defense like I never did. It’s difficult but I’m thrilled.
Divit and Nakul have been over occupied between three jobs. Looking for Jessica, hacking the website, and planning our next move.
Jessica is still missing and I’ve started believing that they might be right about using her as a bait to lure me into this. Her involvement is the part I refuse to agree with. Especially because they don’t know her. It’s just hypothesis, which can be wrong.
As for the website, I was right about domain names being changed, but a few ridiculously unbelievable things came up after digging in it closely.
First, there was no user by the name King on the list of clients on the entire website, in fact such a name did not exist anywhere on it in any way. But then he claimed to own the thing, so it is entirely possible that he could alter whatever data he wanted.
Additionally, the domain was registered for a certain MK Group, which again, is not registered within the country, in fact is an out-shore firm based in the Balkans. The owners are supposed to be a duo by the name Konstantin Ivanov and Merlyn Jacobs.
Now, Yuvraj and Rayan are working along with Nakul to find more details on the group and its connection to inshore enterprises. Particularly, the firm I’ve been working at. Any lead could prove to be crucial.
Leaves make ominous scrunching sounds beneath my feet, as I make my way towards the shed instead of going back to the living room. It’s almost dark now and Nakul hasn’t got out of the shed for almost six hours. That’s not the kind of devotion I need. Health is a priority if you’re working risky.
On entering the premise, I’m instantly engulfed with the strong smell of bleach and hydrogen peroxide. The urge to vomit is too intense, more because I can join the dots as to what must have happened here to wash the entire area in such a nose wrenching substance. The putrid near the lake was another give away.
Nakul instantly spots me when I walk in to see them all engrossed in checking blood stains. “Sweetheart... What are you doing here?”
“Why is the room so dark? What is this blue light?”
“It’s nothing... come –” he takes my hand and tugs, dragging me out of the room and into the darker hallway.
“You guys, did it? Didn’t you?” My eyes narrow and meet his.
He rubs his forehead, shrugging before settling his eyes on me, “Yeah –”
“Yeah? Why is killing another human so average everyday chore for you guys? I mean look at y’all, you look way to normal to be psychopaths.”
“And you still love me?” His eyes narrow on me suggestively. And I manage to catch a breath and look away.
Clearing my dry throat, I try to control the heat. “Anyways, I came to ask you for dinner, you must have been hungry.”
“You’re in love with me, aren’t you - muffin?”
Thank God for the dim lighting, or it would have amused him more the way my cheeks are hot flushed right now. “What? What kind of an answer is –”
The next moment he is pressed into me; his hand covers my mouth blocking me mid-way.
“You know, self-denial looks adorable on you, especially when I can see the truth in your eyes. You can keep believing what you want, and I’ll keep doing what I want to do.” His smile is tempting and sinister, making the blood in my veins heat up; making my breathing shallower, little by little.
“And what is it, that you want to do?” My voice merely a whisper.
“This...” And suddenly my body stills. Shivers run down the back of my spine as feathery fingers run up my back, slipping inside my tee shirt and entrapping me at the narrowest part of the waist. Another hand covers my mouth instantly as voices emerge from the room, muffling my breaths and sounds, while his muscular frame pushes me in the shadows till their voices fade out. His friends are gone and we are now alone in this place.
I should be nervous... but oddly – this seems freaking exciting at the moment. Almost too much for my fragile heart.
I feel a doorknob behind my back. In a heartbeat, I turn the knob and sprint inside, shutting the door behind me before he can realize what I’m up to.
“What happened to Mr. Spontaneous? Did you just get defeated by a woman? I bet you’re frowning or crying, like a little boy.” I chortle. “Now you can’t keep doing what you do – alone. What do you say?”
But his giggle shoves my laughter back down my throat, “Oh sweetheart, I appreciate the attempt. You almost got me, I must admit!”
“What do you mean?” My brows furrow in confusion as I take a look behind me.
“Look around and see who outran who?” He calls out.
Shit!What is this place?!
Behind me are rows of glass boxes placed on wooden counters filled with creatures from my nightmares. I take a harsh gulp down my throat, freezing and staring with wide eyes as snakes and scorpions of different varieties move around in their respective glass boxes.
“What happened, muffin? Didn’t you like them?” His soft chuckle is mocking my stupid decision. “You should, after all you have to spend the night with my babies...”
I am learning a new definition of fear as these creatures react to the sudden change in environment.
“Don’t be afraid, muffin. They can smell you – can sense fear. At least my snakes can.”
I contemplate turning the knob, because what choice do I have. I’m going to be they prey anyways. Settling for the lesser horrifying of the two, I turn the knob once. Twice.
What the hell! The bastard locked me inside.
“I can’t stay here. Please let me out...” I bang on the door.
“What... you can’t stay? But you were laughing at the thought just two minutes ago; I thought maybe that’s something you enjoy.” The sarcastic amusement evitable in his deep voice.
“Nakul, don’t play games with me right now. I need out. Let me out...please!” Banging the door again... and again.
“Okay... I’ll let you out. But I have a condition.”
“Oh God! What condition Nakul? Don’t be an ass. Just let me out.” By this point I am not even trying to convince him, turning the knob hysterically like it’s going to unlock the door magically.
“It’s rude to call your Master names, muffin. Try again...” he growls, but I can hear the soft chuckles that follows.
It’s so hard to admit defeat when I had a good chance to win on the bastard just this once, “Fine... Please open the door for me, Master. I promise to... I promise to agree on all your conditions.”
He gasps at my confirmation. Such a devil this man is, gets his way every single time.
“Ooo... such a good girl you are my na?ve – na?ve muffin.”
I hear a click and the door opens revealing the tempting monster leaning on the doorframe, looking up at me through the silky length of heavy lashes. He walks in rubbing his palms together, lapping his tongue on his lower lip in a deliriously inviting way.
“I’ll tell you something sweetheart... Rule number one, you shouldn’t agree on anything unless you hear it out. Sometimes... being so darn na?ve, gets you into trouble.”
“And rule number two?” Thrill and arousal sinking inside my head making my voice softer than needed.
His eyes have a glint of spark in them as he traps me against the glass box with scorpions inside on standby to sting whatever comes close enough. I jerk back right into his outstretched arms.
“You’ve already screwed up rule number one.”
