Chapter 16
CHAPTER 16
Presley
Graduation Day
“ K nock, Knock.”
“You can come in, Dad.”
“I just wanted to tell you one last time how proud I am of you, kiddo. In spite of everything, you’ve turned out to be one heck of a strong woman. The bravest girl I know.” He winks. “And I’m so fortunate to have you as a daughter.”
I climb off my bed and rush over, wrapping myself around his waist. “I’m lucky to have you, Dad.” I hug him tighter. “I couldn’t have done it without you.”
All those years… All the pain… There’s no way I would’ve gotten through if I didn’t have my dad to talk to. Not a day went by where he didn’t check in to make sure I was alright. We may have lost five years together, but I never felt like he gave up fighting for me. But the witch, who I no longer refer to as my mother, just wouldn’t back down. Speaking of the bitch. I just found out she’s single again. Her husband fell in love with a girl half my mother’s age, and filed for a divorce. I’d say that’s Karma coming back to bite my mom in the ass. Now, she finally gets to feel my father’s pain.
“Alright, Kiddo. Enough with the heavy or I’ll be weeping like a baby.”
I giggle at his remark, and savor one last tight squeeze before I let him go. He turns to head out, but stops. “And from now on, just tell that boyfriend of yours he can use the front door.”
My cheeks turn hot. I guess we weren’t as sneaky as I thought. But he doesn’t seem mad.
“Alright, Pres. I’m heading to bed. Congrats again.”
As soon as he shuts my door, I send Kyler my text.
Me: Dad said you can spend the night, so pack a bag.
