CHAPTER 24! WEDDING #2
"Just calculating how many people will die if anyone tries to kidnap the bride tonight."
-
The mandap itself had been constructed beneath an open crystal canopy in the center of the sprawling lawn, surrounded by floating lotus arrangements and towering brass diyas flickering against the cool monsoon night.
Sacred fire crackled softly at the center.
Priests chanted ancient Sanskrit verses into the humid air while camera flashes erupted carefully from a distance.
But Aadhira barely processed any of it.
Because Aryav's presence beside her was overwhelming up close.
Heat. Power. Stillness.
Every instinct in her nervous system remained hyperaware of him standing only inches away.
The rituals began slowly.
The second Aadhira lifted the varmala-
Arjun and Aarush immediately dragged Aryav backward.
"Not so easy, bhabhi!"
"Earn him!"
The crowd erupted.
"CHEATING!"
Kashvi shouted.
"Strategy," Reyansh corrected.
Shaurya rolled up his sleeves.
"Accha."
The Agrawal side immediately joined the war.
Five minutes later nobody knew whether this was a wedding ritual or a diplomatic conflict between two nations.
Finally Shaurya pointed aggressively at Aryav.
"Jhuk ja bhai."
Aryav raised an eyebrow.
"Varna shaadi cancel."
Dead silence.
Then:
"Main apni behen nahi dunga."
Even Rajendra Vikram laughed.
The crowd burst into laughter.
Somewhere nearby, Vaani yelled dramatically-
"PREETY DIDI YOU LOOK LIKE A PRINCESS!"
"And dad looks scary!" Ayaan added honestly.
-
Then came the pheras.
The atmosphere shifted instantly.
Less spectacle. More gravity.
The sacred fire burned brighter between them as the priest began reciting the vows of marriage-promises older than empires, older than wealth itself.
Aadhira's fingers tightened subtly against the edge of her dupatta.
Seven steps.
Seven promises.
A lifetime.
The first few pheras passed in ceremonial rhythm, the heavy sound of Sanskrit chants surrounding them like ancient architecture.
Then midway through the fourth step-
Aadhira's lehenga caught slightly beneath the edge of the platform.
Her balance faltered.
Only briefly.
But before anyone else could react-
The world tilted.
Only slightly.
But enough.
Before panic could fully form-
A hand closed around hers.
Not her wrist.
Her hand.
Strong.
Warm.
Certain.
Aadhira froze.
Aryav didn't even look at her.
"Walk."
Just one word.
Calm.
Unshaken.
As if falling was simply not an option while he stood beside her.
The movement was so fast it barely looked conscious.
A small ripple moved through the observing guests.
Because Aryav Rai Shinghania was not publicly affectionate.
Yet his grip remained there one second longer than necessary before releasing her carefully once she stabilized.
Aadhira's pulse became deeply uneven.
And somehow, she became horrifyingly aware of every vow after that.
Protection. Loyalty. Partnership. Trust.
And suddenly every vow felt far more real than it had a few minutes ago.
Finally-
The sindoor.
Mrinalini handed the silver sindoor box to Aryav.
Her expression remained unreadable.
But her voice carried across the silent mandap.
"From this moment forward..."
Her gaze shifted toward Aadhira.
"She carries our name."
Then toward Aryav.
"Make sure she never carries its burdens alone."
Even Aryav's eyes flickered briefly.
The entire mandap fell completely silent.
Even the wind seemed to pause.
Aadhira lowered her gaze instinctively, her heartbeat roaring violently inside her ears as the crimson powder stained Aryav's fingertips.
Then his hand lifted.
Steady. Controlled.
But impossibly gentle.
The vermilion settled into the parting of her hair in one slow stroke.
And drop a little to her nose.
A visible shiver ran down her spine instantly.
Married.
The realization struck with terrifying force.
Before she could fully process it, the mangalsutra followed next-the black and gold chain cool against her skin as Aryav tied it securely around her neck.
A sacred knot.
An irreversible one.
The priest smiled warmly.
"vivaah Sampann hua ."
The marriage is complete.
And suddenly-
The entire estate erupted.
Applause. Music. Flower showers. Relatives crying. Cameras flashing endlessly.
But Aadhira heard almost none of it.
Because Aryav had looked at her again.
And this time-
There was something profoundly different in his eyes.
Not possession.
Not strategy.
Something quieter.
Far more dangerous.
Recognition.
As if some deeply buried part of him had finally accepted a truth the rest of the world already knew.
She was his family now.
And somehow-
He was becoming hers too.
A deal became a marriage.
A marriage became destiny.
And neither of them knew it yet-
but forever was about to become far more complicated than either of them expected.
