Chapter 6

Four years later...

Amara’s POV

Life had taken on a new rhythm. As I walked through the familiar hallways of the pack hospital, I felt a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Becoming a pack doctor had been a challenging journey, but every step had been worth it.

Healing others had become my solace, a way to channel my pain into something meaningful.

“Ethan, how’s the patient in emergency room?”

I asked, glancing at my best friend as we reviewed the day’s cases.

Ethan and I joined the medical college together, faced countless late-night study sessions and celebrated our graduations side by side.

Now, as doctors in our pack’s hospital, our bond was stronger than ever.

“Stable for now” Ethan replied, handing me a chart.

“But we need to monitor him closely. His condition could change at any moment” A werewolf has super human abilities like heightened smell, strength and self healing ability as well. But sometimes medical help is required to aid the natural healing process. That’s what we do as pack doctors.

I nodded, flipping through the pages.

Working side by side with Ethan had taught me a lot. His calm demeanor balanced my sometimes impulsive nature and together, we made a formidable team. Our shared dedication to the pack’s health had forged an unbreakable partnership.

As I moved to check on the next patient, I couldn’t help but reflect on how much I had changed.

The pain of the past still lingered, but it no longer defined me.

I had built a new life, one filled with purpose and resilience.

The hospital was my sanctuary, a place where I could make a difference every day.

After a long day at the hospital, Ethan and I made our way back to the pack house.

The sun was setting, casting a warm, golden hue over the familiar surroundings.

The scent of home-cooked food wafted through the air as we approached the house, a comforting reminder of the normalcy and love waiting inside.

As we stepped through the door, my mother greeted us with a warm smile. “Dinner’s almost ready” she announced, bustling around the kitchen. “Wash up and come to the table”

Ethan and I exchanged a grateful glance and headed to wash our hands. The aroma of roasted chicken and vegetables filled the air, making our stomachs rumble in anticipation. When we returned, the table was set and my mother was placing the last dish on the table.

We sat down and my mother joined us, her eyes twinkling with affection as she looked at Ethan and me.

“It’s good to have you both home” she said, passing the dishes around. “How was work today?”

“Busy, as usual” Ethan replied with a grin. “But we managed to get through it. Amara handled a tricky case like a pro” I smiled at the compliment, feeling a warm glow of pride.

“We make a good team” I added, nudging Ethan playfully. I miss our friend Debby on occasions like this. She found her mate in our neighbouring pack. They both moved there a year ago and opened a restaurant there.

Debby is the head chef there, as she always wanted to become. Her mate is chief warrior of his pack. They both are happy and that’s what matters.

One more update, William and Rebecca had a baby boy last summer and he is turning 1 in the next week. We named him Colin. He is like the star of the family now, everyone loves him like crazy, including myself.

On the dinner table, we all were chatting and discussing about how we should celebrate Colin’s birthday.

Just then, the front door opened and William and my father walked in. Both men look tired but content, their face lighting up when they saw us. William is working with dad on a daily basis now, learning how to run a pack as an alpha.

“Evening!! everyone” dad greeted, taking a seat at the head of the table. “As always, it smells delicious honey”

Mom starts blushing at dad’s comment.

After dinner, I excused myself to head to my room, eager for some sound sleep. As I climbed the stairs, I overheard mom talking to dad in the kitchen.

“Greg, I’m worried about Amara” she said softly. I halt in my steps.

“She hasn’t found her mate yet and I’m afraid she is feeling lonely” she says with empathy.

My father sighed “Oh love, she’ll meet her mate when the time is right. Amara is strong and capable. Currently she’s focused on her work, her family and her friends. When the time comes, everything will fall in its place” he reassured her.

“I just want her to be happy” she murmured.

“William and Rebecca are happily settled with each other, they have given us our precious grand son. Soon they will take up the alpha and luna titles. I surely love them all but, as a mother I just want all our kids to be happy and content”my mother said in worried tone.

“She will be” my father said firmly. “Our daughter has a bright future ahead of her. We just need to trust the moon goddess”

Feeling a mix of emotions, I quietly retreated to my room. Their words echoed in my mind as I sat on my bed, staring out the window at the darkening sky. Little did they know, I already found my mate and got rejected. The past was now stirring up old wounds and uncertainties.

I was naive back then. I once wholeheartedly trusted in “mates” and “eternal bond” crap. I chuckled on my younger self.

I might be a brave doctor who saves lives on a daily basis, but not enough to tell my parents or friends what happened with me 4 years ago. How I met my so called mate, and how he ruthlessly mocked and rejected me in front of his chosen mate.

“Mate doesn’t want us” Eva howled in hurt.

“He is not our mate, not ever” I stated firmly.

Suddenly I heard little Colin’s crying sound. I went to my brother’s room and knocked. “Come In, don’t cry my love. shush!! shush!!” Rebecca said pleadingly.

I entered and saw Colin is bowling his eyes out. “Can I hold him for a while” I asked. Rebecca said “of course!!” I held him and went to the balcony. Cool night breeze welcomed us both.

I was cradling him and singing sweet nothings in his ears. Colin stopped crying and started drifting off to sleep. Once he slept in my arms completely I took him in and handed him to his now smiling mother.

“Wow!! What sorcery did you do on him, Amara? Give some lessons here” She chuckled softly and tucked him in his cradle.

“He was agitated because of the heat, you look awful too; go and get some sleep” I nudged her on shoulder.

“Yeah thanks for calming him. You too have a good rest sister” she whispered and laid down on her bed.

“Being mom is hard” Eva sighed in my head.

“Yes, but Rebecca is wonderful at it. She is going to be an incredible Luna” I noted confidently. I head back to my room and drifted away.
