Chapter 30
Amara’s POV
When I reach Night Blood territory, it was a chaos. I quickly shifted. Eva, moved like a shadow among the rogues, swift and deadly. She tore through them one by one, her claws slashing and her teeth sinking into flesh with precision. Blood matted her fur, but she didn’t falter.
Then I spotted him Maximus’s right-hand man, a massive rogue wolf with scars running down his face.
He growled, baring his teeth and lunged at me.
But I am faster. With a feral snarl, I dodged his attack and went for his throat, clamping my jaws down with devastating force.
The rogue let out a guttural scream before going limp, collapsing to the ground.
Eva raised her head, letting out a victorious howl that sent chills through the remaining rogues. They hesitated, their morale wavering.
It was then that Zachary arrived, Aiden tearing into the scene. He wasted no time joining the fray, his powerful presence boosting his warriors’ spirits.
In the chaos, our eyes met for a fleeting moment, a silent understanding passing between us.
But the moment was shattered by a low, mocking laugh.
From the shadows, Maximus emerged, his hulking form radiating menace. His dark, cruel eyes took in the scene, lingering on me and the fallen rogues before settling on Zachary.
“You’ve done well” Maximus drawled, his voice carrying easily over the noise.
“But this ends now. I say you got a beautiful Luna there Zachary, she is feisty” He licked his lips.
Both Eva and Aiden growled at him.
Zachary stepped forward with an air of authority. “Keep her out of this. Let’s finish it. One on one, Maximus. Unless you’re too much of a coward”
Maximus sneered but nodded. “Very well, Alpha. Let’s see if you’re as strong as they say”
The rogues and warriors drew back, creating a wide circle around the two Alphas.
The battle began in an instant.
The two wolves collided with brutal force, their snarls filling the air. They clawed and bit at each other, the ground beneath them shaking with the sheer power of their attacks.
Zachary was fast, landing precise hits that left Maximus bleeding and stumbling. But Maximus was cunning, using underhanded moves to keep Zachary on his toes.
“This ends with your death, Zachary. I will take over your pack and your Luna will be mine” he cackled. Maximus commented to distract Zachary.
Eva is crowling to attack on the bastard, but she knows it’s Zachary’s move and she stays idle to let him have it.
Aiden growled at him bearing his teeth.

Zachary’s POV
The battle was a blur of blood, claws and fury. Aiden and I moved as one, our focus razor-sharp on Maximus. But then a sharp, fleeting sensation in the back of my mind made me pause. Chaos erupted in my pack’s mind-link.
“Alpha! Behind you!” the warning came too late. I turned just in time to see a rogue breaking from the circle, a silver knife in hand, its target unmistakably clear, me.
Before I could react, a blur of motion crossed my vision. Eva-leaped out of nowhere, crashing into the rogue with a snarl that tore through the battlefield. The force of her attack sent the knife skittering to the ground.
Relief surged through me for a moment, but it was short-lived.
The rogue, quick and desperate, pulled another blade from his belt. My world slowed to a crawl as the silver gleamed in the dim light, its cruel arc plunging straight into Amara’s side.
Her howl of pain shredded through me.
“Amara!” My voice was raw, breaking as I saw her stagger. Blood poured from the wound, staining her white fur crimson.
Eva collapsed, her body shifting back to Amara as Sam darted forward, catching her before she hit the ground.
I turned to face the rogue who stabbed her, but he was lying in halves beneath Mason’s wolf. He came to battle field, even when I told him not to.
Something inside me snapped. Aiden roared in my mind, his fury consuming us both. The scent of Amara’s blood, her pain, her fragility-it was too much.
I turned back to Maximus, my vision clouded red. He saw me coming, but his movements were sluggish, unprepared for the storm I had become.
Aiden surged forward and my jaws found his throat. He thrashed, clawing at me, but I didn’t let go. I couldn’t.
Amara’s blood was still fresh in the air.
My rage gave me strength and with one final, devastating bite, I ended him. Maximus’s lifeless body hit the ground with a dull thud. The battlefield stilled.
The remaining rogues froze for a moment before scattering, their courage evaporating as their leader fell. But I didn’t care. I didn’t even watch them retreat. All that mattered was Amara.
I shifted back, running to where Sam knelt, cradling her. The sight of her nearly broke me-her face pale, her breaths shallow, blood staining her side. I dropped to my knees, my hands trembling as I took her from Sam.
“Amara” I whispered, my voice unrecognizable even to myself. Her eyelids fluttered open, just barely, and her lips moved.
“Zachary..” Her voice was weak, barely a breath, but it shattered me.
“You’re going to be fine” I said, though the words felt like a lie even as I spoke them. Fear was clawing at my throat as I continued, “Stay with me, Amara. Please”
Sam barked orders to the healers, but I couldn’t focus on anything except the limp weight of her in my arms. I stood, carrying her back to the pack hospital.
Dr. Smith and his team were waiting. As I laid her on the stretcher, I grabbed his arm. “Do whatever it takes to save her” I growled, the command shaking with desperation.
Dr. Smith nodded, his face solemn. “We’ll do our best, Alpha”
As they closed the doors to the medical room, I stood outside, motionless. My body ached, my wounds stung, but none of it mattered. All I could feel was the pounding of my heart and a single prayer repeating over and over in my head, “Goddess, please don’t let me lose her. Not now. Not ever”
