Chapter 38
Amara’s POV
The girl’s night started off simple, just as we had planned.
Amelia, Rose and I settled into Rose’s room, snacks spread out in front of us, with Amelia pouring herself a generous glass of wine.
Of course, Rose was on water diet given her pregnancy, but she didn’t seem to mind as long as we let her hog the popcorn.
Amelia picked a romantic comedy to watch, claiming we needed some “light-hearted love drama” after all the chaos of our life. As the movie played, laughter echoed in the room, though I noticed Amelia sneaking glances at me every now and then.
The movie had barely ended when she finally blurted it out, her cheeks rosy from the wine.
“Alright... Amara, enough stalling. Spill the beans. What’s wrong with Alpha and you?”
I choked on the sip of juice I had just taken. “What? Nothing is wrong with us!” I protested, though the heat rising to my cheeks betrayed me.
“Oh, is it? Then why the hell are you not marked yet?” Amelia said, leaning forward with a gleam in her eye. “I see Zach hesitate a little around you. He might still feel guilty because of the past” Rose chimes in.
“I know. There were lot of moments when we came really close but, he just backed away” I sigh.
“May be he is not ready to take our relationship further”
Rose laughed softly, rubbing her growing belly. “You silly woman. Even though there’s litlle hesitation, I have seen Zachary look at you like he could eat you any time” She giggled.
I sighed, burying my face in my hands. “Umm. Can I ask you guys something?”
“Anything sweet heart” Rose says without hesitation.
“Is it off putting if I make the first move? Since he is hesitating a little, might be because of my previous coldness” I ask shyly.
Amelia squealed with excitement, nearly spilling her wine. “Of course not darling. He will be thrilled to see you make the first move. But tell me one thing, have you guys confessed about your feelings already?”
“Umm.. not yet. There was really no time to say my feelings” I say with a heavy tone.
Amelia pats my shoulder, “I guess you should start from there. Once you confess your feelings, everything will fall in it’s place”
Rose’s expression softened “You deserve that happiness, Amara”
Amelia, however, wasn’t done. “So you decided to move with Alpha am I right? I heard you guys at the stairs”
“Hmm.. Yes. If not for this night out. I would be with my mate right now” I gave them a sarcastic look.
She pouted but eventually let it go, mumbling something about how I was “no fun”
By the time the clock struck midnight, Rose was fast asleep on the couch and Amelia had drunk enough to start slurring her words.
I tucked a blanket around Rose and helped Amelia to her room, laughing as she muttered about how she could “totally take on Mason in a fight” I saw Mason already in their room sulking and tipsy.
“Thank you Amara. I will take her from here” Mason says with smug smile.
Amelia hugged him and he wrapped his arms around her and took her to bed. I bid them good night.
Once they were settled, I decided it was time to head back to my room. When I opened the door, though, I froze. My things were gone.
Confused, I wandered down the hall to Zachary’s room. I pushed the door open and found all my belongings neatly arranged inside.
I sighed, shaking my head. “That was quick” I muttered to myself, a small smile tugging at my lips.
I stepped inside, heading straight for the bathroom to wash away the long day. After a warm shower, I wrapped myself in a towel and stepped out, only to find Zachary standing by the bed, his shirt half unbuttoned and his hair slightly messy. I can sense a faint smell of the whiskey.
His piercing gaze locked onto me instantly, darkening with an unmistakable heat. I can feel his wolf surfacing.
“You’re back” he said, his voice low and gravelly.
I clutched the towel tighter around me, suddenly hyper-aware of how exposed I was “I... I saw you moved my things”
His lips curved into a smirk “Of course. You were ready to move in with me right? So why waste another day?”
He started toward me, his movements slow and deliberate. I could feel my heartbeat quicken as he stopped just inches away “Amara, can I tell you something?”
“Umm, yeah sure”
“I’m so happy today that you agreed to move in. I love you so much Amara. Every waking hour I think about you, when I sleep I dream about you. There’s nothing in this world that could even measure how much I love you. You mean everything to me, my love” he voice soft but with full of honesty.
For a moment I just see his eyes. There’s nothing but love in them. And I know it’s for only me. There’s nothing or no one in between us anymore.
“Can I tell you something too?” I ask hesitantly.
“Yes, anything my love” he says with hope in his eyes.
“Years ago when we first met, I have just hated your guts. You were nothing but an obnoxious, selfish and rude person I had ever met. I didn’t know you are even capable of loving anyone” His face fell with my words.
I contninued, “But I thank the Moon goddess, for giving us another chance at this. I now know the reason you rejected me before. Even though it hurt like hell, I understand your point of view now. Even though I hated you before, with time you have just proved me wrong. You love everyone around you,
your friends, your family and your pack. You are a great Alpha and wonderful person Zachary. I couldn’t have asked for a better mate than you. Recently I have also started loving you again. I want to be a part of your life, your family and this pack. I want to be with you”
His face is unreadable for a second. I could see lot of emotions going on in his mind “What did you say?” He took my hand in his.
I gave him a soft smile and said “I love you too, Zachary Grey”
With that he pulled me into his arms for a hug. His warmth is comforting and inviting.
After what felt like an eternity, he pulled back and kissed me on my lips. It was a soft kiss. I was surprised but, didn’t stop him. Then he looked into my eyes, “Can I tell you one more thing?”
“Of course” I say in low voice.
He looks me up and down “You are so beautiful” he murmured, his fingers brushing against my damp hair.
Now I’m aware that I’m just wearing a bath towel. I clutched the towel so tight, like my life depended on it.
