Chapter 16 #2

I walked into Bay Island and spotted Law sitting toward the back.

I could always spot him out of a crowded room because he was the only nigga with two beefy-ass bodyguards standing close.

They never sat their asses down to be incognito, and their heads stayed on a swivel.

I ventured through my homie’s establishment until I reached his table.

He stood, giving me a dap and a hug, then offered me a seat.

“It’s really nice in here, G. When did you open this spot up?” I asked.

“A few years ago. I started on it right after Ma passed.”

I nodded. “It’s real dope, fam. It’s giving the island vibes, for sure.”

“That was the goal.”

The server walked over to our table, and I put in my request for a bourbon on the rocks. Once she walked away, I got down to the reason I came here. “Does Juan still run the security team in Detroit?”

“Sure do.”

“I need his services as soon as possible.”

“That’s not an issue. Can I ask who it is you’re protecting?”

“You can, but will I answer is the real question.” I smirked as he chuckled.

“It’s cool if yo’ ass wants to be secretive. But I’ll make the call for you.”

“Appreciate that. I’ll need four of them at the house, at all times, and two for escorting. It’s my spot in Grosse Pointe Woods. I don’t think I’ll need any more than that, and they can take the pool house. Security cams are already in place.”

“Damn. Now I really need to know who you’re protecting. The president’s daughter or some shit?”

I chuckled lightly. “Just know I came here and got pulled into some shit I wasn't expecting. They must be efficient and on point, Law. My brother is a raging bull at this point and ready to take out anybody standing in his way.”

“It’s the girl, isn’t it?” I nodded, and he kissed his teeth. “I always thought she was way too good for that bum-ass nigga. Glad a real nigga stepping in on her behalf.”

“You met her?”

“Not physically. I’ve seen her around with his ass… Even caught him going upside her head a few times out in public. The shit was fucked up to witness.”

“I’m sure. I need them heavily protected since I won't be there a lot with the grand opening.”

“I got you, man. I don’t know what you’re going to do about him, Tru. The nigga is reckless. I really don’t want to break your heart, so I need you to calm him down before shit goes beyond giving grace.”

“I’m on it, bruh.”

Just as the server brought out my drink, my brother appeared out of nowhere.

“I’ll take that from you, beautiful.” He took the drink from her and pulled a chair over to the table, flipping it around and taking a seat. I stared at him as he took a sip of my shit. “What up, doe, motherfuckas? Y’all miss me?” He smirked.

Law’s bodyguards began moving, but he held his hand up to halt them. “You got a lot of balls walkin’ in my shit.”

“A lot. And they big too.”

“Apparently. To what do I owe this uninvited visit, nigga?”

“Just came to let you know that you’re not untouchable. That I could make you non-existent in the blink of an eye.”

“Hmph. Is that right?”

“Check ya fit, homeboy.” Damien nodded to Law’s chest.

An infrared beam sat against my best friend’s gray button-up shirt. My nostrils flared, and I was seconds from knocking my brother’s head off his shoulders. The restaurant was filled with heavy tension as I watched Law’s eyes flip. He was ready to kill.

“Now that I have your attention… Sixty-Third, Washtenaw, Fourteenth, and Ripper Road is my shit. If I want to sell crack to a baby, yo’ ass better not touch whoever’s supplying them, or this shit is going to get real bad for you.”

“Dame—” I started, but he held up his palm to silence me.

“I’m not done. You got an auntie that lives on Tampa Street, right? I’d sure hate for her to meet her sister in the afterlife.”

Law sat with a sinister smirk on his face, and I knew I needed to get Dame the fuck out of here. “Get up and get out of here. Right now,” I told him.

“The fact that you sittin’ here, breaking bread with my enemy, tells me that you are no fuckin’ brother of mine.”

I smirked. “I thought I was forgotten?”

He chuckled, and then his smile disappeared.

“I want my bitch and my daughter back in my presence in forty-eight hours. I know you know where her hoe ass is. Don’t make me have to come looking for her, or it's gon’ be all bad for her ass when I catch her.

” He plucked a shrimp from Law’s plate and stood.

“Mm. That's pretty good. May have to come back for more.” He smirked, downed my drink, and left as quickly as he came.

“Tru—”

“I know, Law. Fuck!”

I pinched the bridge of my nose and sighed.

This was all bad. The decision wasn't left up to me anymore.

My brother was violating and breaking the code of brotherhood.

I knew the only reason he was even able to set foot in here and walk out like he did was because of me.

At this point, there was nothing I could do to save him.

Law sipped his drink and shook his head. “I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be. He’s a grown man and clearly untamable. I won't permit you to kill my brother, Law, but I also won't stop you from protecting yourself and your family. Just… try not to, if you can.”

“I can’t make no promises, brother. The threat has been made.”

I sighed as I stood, slapping palms with him. “Let me know when you’ve made that call for me. I need it done pronto. You seen that nigga just now.”

“Indeed.”

I walked out of the restaurant. I knew it was going to break my mother’s heart to have to bury her son, but this was the life he chose. It was out of my hands, and I was done trying to save someone who didn’t want to be saved.
