-Lucy Silvers-

Do you know that feeling where it feels like you're losing your daughter as everyday breaks, but she's still here with you?

Well, that was exactly how I felt.

June's behavior had worsened ever since she came back from running off to Dubai.

When she wasn't around, I was worried sick because she's my only child and the only successor to the Silvers international.

And so at first when she'd come back, I was extremely glad and relieved.

Especially when she said she wanted to be living in the same house she'd grown up in as a child with her parents by her side.

Oh, but things didn't get any good.

It felt like my June still stayed in Dubai, and whoever this person was, was the crazily in love girl.

Because, everytime I walked by her room, she was either always smashing something and laying cuss words on Eri to Jenny or she was letting Jenny know how much she loves Don and what she'd do to get him.

That wasn't the daughter I knew.

Yes, she loved him then, but it was never to such an extent of hurting herself and acting all insane.

All of this just made me certain my daughter was slipping out of my hands.

Worse of all, there was nothing I could do about it.

She barely ever came out of that room of hers, which meant I barely ever saw her in a day.

And the saddest part was that we barely or maybe don't even exchange words.

“Don't you think June's slipping from us everyday?” I said my thoughts out loud to Rhys who was prepared to head to work.

It just reminded me of how lonely the house was always like for me.

Rhys would go to work early and come late like there's ever anything special in that workplace of his.

June would never acknowledge my presence.

And even my personal maid, Jayla, was barely a good listener.

“Slipping? How?” He was obviously not interested in the topic and he seemed to be hurrying to get going to work.

Still, I sighed, standing from the king sized bed to where hd stood, admiring himself in the mirror.

“Don't you think her love for Don is getting to another level?”

“Nah, I just think she's still trying to get over the feelings.”

My brows knitted. “Have you never walked past her room?”

He still didn't seem interested. “Why would I invade her private life?”

“At this point, forget about any fucking private life Rhys.” I scowled, frustration dripping in my tone.

Because really, I couldn't imagine losing my only child.

The main reason for my existence.

He just raised a brow, but didn't say anything.

I bit my lower lips, deciding to try again in a more calm tone. “You're her father who should care about what she's doing.”

He still had that uninterested look. “Trust me, she's fine.”

This was hopeless.

Stupid husband that didn't care about anything other than work and his business.

How would I even expect him to care about his daughter.

Unless…

“You know… if she doesn't get over this phase anytime soon, it may affect her so well, she might not be able to take over the company.”

With that, a frown appeared on his features.

Yep.

What other way to catch his interest than through his precious company.

“I'll talk to her about it, and if all is okay, promise you won't disturb me again.”

My lips pulled into a grateful smile as I nodded. “Promise.”

We both left the room, sauntering to the parlor where we coincidentally met June and Jenny about to leave the house.

“Going somewhere?” She stopped walking to turn to her dad, a smile planted on her lips.

“Yes dad, Jenny and I have some plans to work on. Do you need anything?”

He walked towards her. “Can you spare me a minute or should we talk when you get back?”

“We can talk now.” Although she still had the smile on, I could sense she seemed to have a clue on what we might say.

Oh Lord, please let her listen to him.

She had always been a daddy's girl after all.

“I know you're a grown up girl and I don't want to meddle in your business.” He started, and she just stared at him, the smile not leaving her face.

“But when your business starts posing a threat to mine, I don't think I'll just sit back and watch.”

Seriously? Was that seriously how he'd approach this topic?!

How I wished I could give that head of his a smack.

She chortled softly. “And what business may I be doing to pose a threat to the Silvers?”

“Dad,” she moved towards him, placing her hand on his tie to straighten it, “I love the company as much as you do and I know I'm the next successor of it. I would never want to do anything to ruin that.”

“That's my girl.” He had a proud smile on. “Also, I don't want your leadership ability to waver. You should still possess the strength, boldness and always wanting to get whatever you wish.”

“I promise you dad that I still have the leadership ability you instilled in me when I was younger.”

She replaced her hand on the tie to his shoulder, pulling him in a brief hug. “Thanks, I'll most certainly get whatever I want to get.”

The way she said it sent my heart racing in fear of actually losing her.

My only child.

The moronic husband of mine laughed. “That's my girl.”

Oh gosh, I'd never felt like hitting this man like I did at this moment.

He was so stupid.

Her gaze trailed to me, where a smile that sent shivers down my spine laid plastered on her lips.

“Thank you mom, for your care. But I promise you that I'm fine. I'm just doing what is right.” The way she said it didn't do any good in making me feel assured.

Instead I could see her drifting further from me.

Still, I managed a feigned smile, biting back the tears that threatened to take form in my eyes. “I hope so.”

I turned to Jenny, who (like everyone else) seemed oblivious of the hurt in me.

The pain of losing my darling child.

“Please, take care of my daughter.”

She bowed a little. “That is what I live for ma'am.”

June turned to her, chuckling. “What are you talking about? You also have a life.”

What I wanted to do at the moment is give my daughter a hug, because…

Because it felt like…

Rhys glanced at his watch, checking the time, before turning back to June. “Okay well, that's all I have to say. You can go have fun wherever you want.“

“Okay. Bye dad. Bye mom.” She turned to leave, but suddenly stopped, tilting only her head sideways to turn to me.

“Mom, I love you.” Then they were gone.

As soon as she walked away, a feeling prickled inside of me.

I knew it then and there that that was the last time I'd hear those words from her.

“See I told you all was well.” Rhys headed for the door. “I'm off now, bye.” Then he left too.

With that, the tears rushed out of me.

Oh no, I'd lost my child.

My only child.

All because of some guy. All because of some stupid business deal my idiotic husband wanted to secure.

Now she was gone…

Not only was she gone, but I'd never have a grandchild.

The thought made me fall on my knees, more tears streaming out.

This was it.

The end.

That was how I'd just die alone. No child or grandchild to be with her.

Jayla scurried towards me from wherever she had been, crouching beside me.

“Are you alright ma'am?”

“I've lost her.” As I said it, the tears gushed out even more.

What would my life be without my child or at least a child.

June would never give up till she loses herself forever.

No!!!
