The day had finally arrived— Kate's wedding, and I couldn't feel more excited.

This was something I'd anticipated for so long, it last me with glee.

More like I was attending my own sister's wedding.

Hane helped with my hair and makeup, and as always, I looked magnificent.

She really was good at it, because she did it in a way that suit perfectly with the purple ankle length gown I had on that hugged my curves, showing a slight amount of my cleavage.

No usd trying to outshine the bride.

"You look really pretty." Hane commented, while I just continued admiring myself in the mirror.

Yep, I looked extremely beautiful.

“And so do you.” I turned to sweep my gaze down her off shoulder knee length gown I'd gotten her with a silver necklace and earrings.

We both had purple matching heels on. That was something I'd done to ensure we expressed our friendship today.

People should know I had relation with the bride.

She blushed. "Thank you."

“Hmm, why don't we get going then.” The thought of it all made me feel excited.

I'd finally be attending the wedding. Wow.

"Okay."

We both sauntered out of her room to the parlor where Don seemed about to leave for work.

When he turned to me, his eyes lit up, slowly moving down my entire body, and resting on my boobs for a moment too long.

“How do I look?” I let him take my hand and do a three sixty.

“Gorgeous love.” His hand moved to wrap around my waist. “You look capable to killing a man with your look.”

He pressed his lips against mine gently, seeming cautious on not ruining my lipstick.

“Gosh baby, I can't wait for you to get back so I can relieve you of this dress.” He murmured hoarsely, and I found a smile creeping up my lips.

“I'll keep that in mind.” My thumb moved to wipe the gloss that had stained his lips from the peck.

“I hope you enjoy yourself at the wedding.” He placed a kiss on my thumb that suddenly didn't want to leave his lips.

Hesitantly though, I pulled it, replacing the hand around his neck. “Note that I might come home a little late, so don't wait long.”

“Hmm.”

I ran my hand through his perfectly combed hair, but he didn't object. “Also, don't stay too long at work.”

“Alright.”

It was only when I pulled from him that I noticed Hane was still standing behind me, looking so out of place.

“Oh well, I'll get going then.”

"Aren't you taking any guards along?" He asked with a raised brow.

My shoulders lifted in a shrug as I shook my head. "Nah, Kate doesn't like much dramas and what could be more dramatic than ten men walking with you into a wedding hall."

"Okay, if you say so."

I offered him a smile before turning to Hane, who just stood awkwardly, so I nodded, letting her know I was ready to leave.

So we both went to the car, whose door was opened for us by a guard and closed once we were in.

As soon as the car started, she muttered, “oh no, we're going to be late,” under her breath, but I caught it.

"Is there a problem?"

"Yeah, we're supposed to be there in five minutes so we will take a photo with Kate one last time as a single lady." She sighed. "I also wanted to see how everything is before the wedding starts."

"And we won't be able to do that?" I had a feeling it was my fault. Maybe I'd spent too much time with Don earlier.

She shook her head in dejection. "Only if we pass the short route and trust me, people like you aren't meant to be there."

“What's that supposed to mean?” My arms crossed over my chest in feigned annoyance.

“I'm just saying,” she seemed to be choosing her words, “you're a multi-billionaire's wife and my boss. There's no way I'll let you start passing strange corners just to be at some maid's sister's wedding.”

“What?! Ma-Maid's sister?” Where was this coming from? “How many times have I told you you're more than that.”

“There's no way I'll let you go late for your own sister's wedding. Don't be crazy. I wasn't born with a silver spoon so what is wrong with a corner that I can't pass.”

“You're really going to pass the shortcut?” She sounded like that was extremely surprising and unbelievable.

“As long as it's safe and fast, I don't care.”

“Oh, okay.” She gave the driver the direction to head, and soon we were coming to a halt.

Like she'd said, the place wasn't far.

“You sure you don't want to pass the normal route?” She asked as we got down. “We'll still get to the wedding, just not early.”

“I'm going.” I stared at the shortcut, which didn't look as bad as she was saying.

“Alright, but the driver won't be able to pass.” She turned to him. “Take the long cut and meet us there.”

“Okay.” He nodded, then zoomed off.

She took my elbow, smiling widely. “Let's go then, milady.”

We both started walking into the slightly dirty, but extremely silent and tight corners.

As we got deeper, I realized she was right to be worried.

This wasn't a good place as I'd thought it was.

"Are you sure we're heading in the right direction?" I had to ask, when there was no sign of a wedding hall.

She was leading the way in front and nodded. "I pass this route every time I want to check out the wedding plans."

“Oh.” I guess I'd just have to trust her then

After walking silently for another minute, the sound of her ringtone echoed, startling me a little.

Answering the call, she placed the phone close to her ear, still walking. “Hey Kate. Don't worry I'm almost there.”

The caller I was now sure was Kate, was probably saying something as Hane went silent for a while.

"Oh come on, don't shout at me, I'm walking in a dirty corner with my rich boss just for you and you're here shouting at me." She sounded agitated and I wondered why, but again silence.

"Seriously! I said I'm almost there, gah, bye." Then she hung up, still walking in front.

"Is everything alright?" I had to ask when the silence seemed ready to strangle me.

With her back still facing me, she nodded. "Yeah, Kate's just—"

Before she finished her statement, a scream of agony filled my earring, before I realized if was from me as a hard substance met with my head from behind.

Hane turned with widened eyes.

"Eri!" Her voice seemed muffled, like she was speaking through a bucket of water.

The world started fading, as my feet betrayed me, falling so I landed on the floor, weak and shaky.

What was happening?

June?

June.

I was sure Hane was screaming something but my nothing could be heard again.

My eyes were starting to also betray me as it shut slowly, but opened to see Hane running closer. It shut and again opened, where Hane was closer.

One last shut, but this time, it didn't open.

As much as I wanted to stay conscious, I just couldn't and was greeted by a blackout.

-Don Jones-

Work was tiresome without Eri as my secretary.

Also because I just missed her presence.

Ever since I saw her in that dress, my entire body had been shaky to just take her off it and be in her beautiful self.

When would this wife of mine come back?

I checked the time on the wall clock, groaning when I realized she'd just been gone for an hour.

That meant I might not see her for a while.

My ringtone cut through my thought.

Hoping it was Eri, I scurried from the couch to where the phone lay on the desk.

And a pinch of disappointment greeted me when I noticed it wasn't Eri.

But that disappointment soon turned to slight concern and curiosity when I noticed it was an Australian number.

That was weird.

I had some Australian friends, but not any that'd call at this time.

Who was this?

I answered the call, placing the phone close to my ear. “Hello?”

“Don Jones?” Even weirder, because this was a voice I didn't recognize.

“Yes, and who may I be speaking with?”

“I'm Hames Grig.” Also not a familiar name. “The man in charge of Mrs Jones' drowning investigation.”

Oh yeah, that case. I'd almost forgotten about it.

Almost. "Okay."

"We have found out who pushed her into the pool."

I sat straight in concentration. "Who is it?"
