W ith only a week to go until our baby was born, Dakota and I were enjoying a baby-moon.
I expected the shift would fall over me at any moment, signaling that the baby was close to arriving.
So Trey and Grady had taken Angelica for a couple of days to let us have some much needed time alone.
Blake had given Dakota some well-earned time off work and I was on parental leave from the compound school.
It wasn’t all sunshine and smiles in our lives, though.
So much had changed. The elves had moved in; the council had approved their request for a portal, so they went back and forth to their realm daily.
Yet, there was always a heavy elven guard.
They were taking the prophecy they had been given seriously.
They saw shifter kind as the key to their future survival. We just didn’t know how.
The council had placed more guards here.
I was grateful that my ex wasn’t one of them.
He had called to say that while he wanted to see me, he just wasn’t ready to come face to face with my mate, especially since I was pregnant.
I felt horrendous that Silas was giving up an important placement.
Guarding the triplets was the highest priority of the council, just because of me.
Dealing with exes was hard, but I couldn’t help but feel relieved that he wasn’t here.
It was bad enough that Hiroshi was here and knew just how good Dakota was to an omega in heat.
Not that I was jealous, it was just the guy had zero shame and would happily share details.
He was sassy and all kinds of adorable. A good friend in the making if he could just stop talking about my mate’s cock.
I knew he did it to tease me; I blamed hormones for being so easy to rile.
He was utterly devoted to his men, and just one look from them often had him dialing it back.
They balanced him, proving if I had any doubt that The Luna knew what she was doing, those betas were meant to be with Hiroshi somehow.
Dakota and I were enjoying the autumn sunshine in our backyard.
I was too pregnant to want to go anywhere, and the mansion was too tense.
I pitied Kade for the stress that he was under.
A new papa like him should have been enjoying his babies.
As it was, he and Blake were considering moving out of the mansion into a purpose-built house to ensure their safety.
My stomach dropped at the memory of the foiled kidnapping of Elliotte.
Poppy had put a magical block on me, so I wouldn’t remember the details after I’d nearly gone into early labor due to stress.
All I remembered was that Roan had caught an enforcer trying to take my granddaughter while her parents slept off a bad night.
He’d been hurt, but I couldn’t quite recall just how badly.
I knew we could have lost him. Elliotte, though, didn’t have a scratch on her.
He’d literally used his body to block an attack while alerting other guards to the attempt.
They had put the enforcer responsible to death. A harsh sentence for a terrible crime.
“You okay?” Dakota asked, as I shuddered.
“Yeah, just remembering the attack.”
He wrapped an arm around me and pulled me close. “You need to stop trying to get around the block. They are safe and better guarded now. The council won’t let anything happen to any of them.”
Far from being concerned about what Elliotte’s birth meant, the council worked with the elves to look through the archived information from before the war.
There was virtually nothing remaining, aside from the slivers of proof that the elves had.
That had been enough to prove to the council that Elliotte was part of a bigger plan for shifter kind.
This council was so changed from the one I knew when I’d appealed to them for help with Rincoln.
Then he had half of them in his pockets.
Gone were those days. Now we had omegas and betas representing us all. Not just alphas.
Resting my head on his shoulder, I sighed. “I know you’re right. I just can’t help worrying. If Roan hadn’t been there… Moon help me! I dread to think about what would have happened. Are you sure we can’t visit? I feel awful that I haven’t seen him.”
“You called, and he doesn’t want to stress you out with how he looks. He knows you’ll worry, and that isn’t good for anyone, especially you and the baby.”
“I know.” I replied. Aldrin and Poppy worked together to stop the labor, buying me a few more weeks of cooking up this baby.
I was lucky that Poppy had been on the compound putting up new wards to Blake and Kade’s suite.
Now that she was mid second trimester, Poppy could do a lot more magic, causing no issues with her own pregnancy.
I’d reluctantly agreed to the block, knowing that it was best for Hayden.
Yet I still worried about Roan. It played on my omega instincts.
I remembered that there was a point where we thought he might lose an arm.
Even a couple of weeks after the attack, I knew he had heavy scars despite multiple healings from conversations I caught Dakota having with Blake.
Hiroshi’s healing talent surpassed that of Aldrins, and he had worked tirelessly to save Roan’s arm and minimize the scarring.
He’d done his best, but mentally, the entire ordeal had played havoc with Roan.
I was just grateful that he had a lot of love and support around him.
Dakota turned me so that he could massage my upper back and shoulders.
His touch lit a fire in my blood. Seriously, my hormones had my mood all over the place.
He sensed the change in me as I slumped against him, needy for more of him touching me.
His chuckle on the back of my neck sent delightful shivers down my body.
“Hmm, I think we need to keep your mind off your worries,” he whispered against the shell of my ear.
Giving it a nip, he kissed a path down my neck as his hands went for the hem of his shirt.
None of my clothes fit anymore. I’d ended up wearing the old clothes Dakota planned to get rid of.
It relaxed my fox to be in our mate’s things.
To be covered with his scent constantly.
My alter was a little needy, not that Dakota complained.
He moved the cushions propping us up so we could lie on the blanket covered grass. “Here?”
His grin was devilish. “There’s no one close by. Why not?”
“The house is just there!” Though it was weak, I protested. I wanted that tinge of danger of being caught.
“I get the feeling that you’d love it if someone found us.” His body covered mine. Resting his weight on his knees and elbows, he spoke into my ear. “You’d love it if someone heard us. Or was watching us while I was balls deep inside you.”
“Fuck!” I wanted that so badly. Ever since he’d said about Hiroshi getting off on people watching him, the idea had sparked something in my mind. I wasn’t sure if it was the thrill of the idea or actually being caught.
We wrestled out of our clothes, leaving them strewn on the grass.
It felt strange but pleasurable to be naked outside in the middle of the day and not shifting.
A light breeze teased over my skin. I gasped as it hit my tight nipples.
Dakota watched me as I stroked myself. The heat in his gaze fired my blood. I needed him to fill me.
“Turn over on your knees. I want to taste you.” His voice was gravelly with desire.
I did as I was told, shuffling into place, the extra weight making it difficult.
Dakota propped me up with some pillows to protect my bump and caressed my exposed ass.
It felt naughty to be outside in the yard with my ass in the air, naked as the day I was born, but it sent my arousal spiraling higher.
Dakota’s breath on my hole gave me a full body shudder.
I cried out at the first lick of his tongue over my puckered entrance.
He tasted and teased before spearing it inside me, finding wetness there and groaning.
“You always taste so sweet. Just the same as your scent.” He dove back in, licking and sucking at my hole, opening me up for him.
It didn’t take long until I was grinding my ass against his face, needing something inside me deeper than his talented tongue could reach. “More! Please, Kota.” My voice sounded wrecked to my own ears.
He didn’t even pause, just added his fingers and stroked my cock as he ate me out.
The sounds he made were obscene, and my face was red with the thought of anyone seeing us like this, of them hearing us.
My cries filled the still afternoon air as he shoved two fingers inside me.
I pawed at the corners of the blanket, needing it to ground me in the moment.
I was going to cum without his dick, and that was a crime.
“Fuck me!” I demanded. “Or you will have blue balls all day.”
“Like you’d deny yourself all this.” I felt Dakota smirk against my neck. He teased his tip around my wet entrance, then pushed inside.
At first, he rocked gently. Good, but not what I wanted.
I dropped to an elbow to reach back and grab for him.
I needed him deeper. His thrusts became harder, pushing in farther to meet my demands.
My face fell against the pillows, my arms like jelly as pleasure coursed through me.
I let out a litany of curses as he hit my spot perfectly.
He pulled me up against him, surrounding me in the circle of his arms. We rocked together, trading kisses. This was better in some ways than the fucking I’d been getting before. He was so deep inside me, all around me. All I could feel was him.
