Chapter 46

CHAPTER 46

M y Boys

Cameron

“I can’t believe you dropped to one knee naked to propose,” Amina laughs.

“I had planned to be more suave about it, but I went with my gut.”

“You were in the middle of pounding it out from the back, Cam. I mean, come on, bro.”

“The view was awe-inspiring. It took my breath away and I had to act. You said yes, didn’t you?”

“Did I? My mouth was sort of full. I can’t remember if I got the words out.”

Her mouth was full, but she did say yes before it was. I cup her face and take her lips. Out of the corner of my eye, I can see her ring sparkling on her finger.

It looks right there. Like it’s been meant to be there all along. I couldn’t have been happier than when I slid it on her finger.

I’m grinning like a fool as I hold my woman in my arms. As always, the sex was amazing, even as I had to work around her full belly. The proposal was just the cherry on top.

It felt like I had to do it then. All the plans I had made seemed like they wouldn’t happen soon enough.

“Holy shit, Cam. That wasn’t your dick in my back. I think I’m in labor,” Amina says, pulling me out of my bliss-filled thoughts.

“What?”

I sit up and look down at her. She’s holding her stomach as her face is etched with pain. I try not to freak out.

Jumping up from the bed, I throw my clothes back on. Once I’m dressed, I’m moving in circles, trying to figure out what to do next. I don’t know this place or where anything is.

“Cam,” Amina grunts. “Grab my phone and call for Sim. She’ll get the staff to help.”

“Right, Sim. Where’s your phone?”

“Over there.” She points at the nightstand.

Fuck, I feel useless. I should have thought of all this on my own. I find Sim’s number in Amina’s phone and call her.

“Hello, is everything all right?”

“No, this is Cam. She’s in labor. We need to get to the hospital.”

“Thirty weeks. The survival rate is ninety percent. I will call Dr. Livingston and have him meet us at the hospital. How far apart are the contractions?”

“Hold on, I don’t know.”

I go over to the bed where Maribel is trying to put her clothes back on. I tuck the phone between my shoulder and ear and help her with her shirt.

I go to help with her leggings and another contraction hits. I look down at my watch and note the time. I don’t even know if I’m doing this shit right.

Maribel grasps my wrists and holds on tight. I begin to rub her back until the pain passes. When it does, she releases my wrist and looks up at me.

Licking her lips, she nods her head. “Just help me get to the bathroom. I need to shower before we go.”

“Really, baby?”

“Really, Cam. I’m not going to the hospital smelling like sex with cum dripping from the one place everyone is going to be looking up,” she growls.

“Point made.”

“Sim. I think they’re about ten minutes apart. I’m going to get her into the shower, and we’ll be ready to go in about twenty,” I say into the phone.

“I will have the SUV brought around to the front of the estate. That will be the best vehicle for all passengers to accompany the patient and it will be best for her comfort. I have her bag.

“The hospital is a twenty-minute ride from the front door of the estate. There shouldn’t be traffic at this hour and the weather is clear. I will get everyone in motion.”

With that, she hangs up. I smile. She reminds me of Cal when he was younger before I helped him learn to filter down the information he shared.

I like her. Tossing the phone down on the bed, I rush to help Amina into the en suite. I strip back down to climb in with her in case she needs me.

I’m glad I do as another contraction hits. I rub her back through it and hold her hips as she rocks from side to side. I cut off the water once the contraction subsides and I have her cleaned up.

Suddenly, a gush of water hits my feet. I stare wide-eyed as I realize her water has broken. Shit, we need to get out of here.

“Cam, don’t freak out on me. Relax. You’re going to wrap me in a towel and help me dry off. Then you’re going to help me to the bedroom to get dressed.”

I nod and snap into action. I’m about to be a daddy. Shit, I got here just in time.

Maribel

I don’t know if we’re ever doing that again, but I can’t say I regret having my two little boys. They are so adorable. They both came out with heads full of hair and the cutest little lips and tiny noses.

Identical twins, just like their father and uncle. Premature my ass, they were three pounds each. At thirty weeks, I was expecting them to be a pound and a couple ounces or something.

However, both my boys are healthy and have latched on with ease. The way they’ve been sucking down milk, they’ll be big and strong in no time.

Chance and Cade Perry. The most precious babies I’ve ever seen. I’m in love with them already.

“They’re so little. Look at how small his head is in my hand,” Cam says in awe as he holds Cade.

“In his defense, your hands are kind of big. It’s not hard for anything to look small in one.”

Cam looks at me and narrows his eyes. “Say that when I have your ass in my hands,” he whispers.

“Why are you whispering? They’re going to know you have a potty mouth before they turn two months old. There’s no keeping that a secret.”

Cam chuckles. “That shit is true. I thought I’d at least try.”

“Good try, babe. Good try.”

He comes closer and dips his head to peck my lips. I smile sleepily at him. It’s getting harder to keep my eyes open.

“I’ll be here with them. Why don’t you get some rest? I’ll have something for you to eat waiting when you wake. My daddy is on his way,” he says softly.

“I’ll take you up on that.” I yawn and settle into the bed.

It feels like I just closed my eyes when the energy in the room shifts. I pop my eyes back open and find Mr. Kyle and a blonde woman standing in the room. Mr. Kyle is smiling from ear to ear as he holds one of the babies in his arms.

Cam has the other baby as the woman stands with a sour look on her face while she glares at me. I look between the three and I can tell this is Cam’s mom.

I knit my brows, wondering what her problem is. Sim took my mom back to the house to rest and get something to eat earlier. It looks like they haven’t come back yet.

“Hey there, young lady. It’s good to see you,” Mr. Kyle says as he notices I’m awake.

“Hey, Mr. Kyle.” I give him a warm smile.

The woman snaps her head to him and scowls. Both Cam and his father ignore her. I sigh because I know she’s about to be some drama, and I’m not rested enough for this right now.

I suck it up and decide to be polite. “Hi, you must be Mrs. Perry,” I say.

“I am. I’m sorry, but I’m still confused about who you are and why we are here.”

“I’m here to meet my grandsons. You’re here because you’re nosey and hardheaded.”

“I thought you were cheating on me. I wanted to meet her for myself,” she snarls.

“I told you I was going to see our son and I would explain everything when I returned.”

“Then hopped on our jet. While our son’s wife was already in labor.”

“I hopped on my jet and that’s our son’s ex-wife . Why can’t you hear those words and allow them to sink in?”

I don’t miss the shocked look on Cam’s face as his father fusses at his mom. He shakes it off and comes to hand me the baby as he goes back to take the other from his dad to bring him to me as well.

I don’t know if he’s doing it to remove the babies from the tension or if he’s doing it to keep me from leaping out of this bed. When I see Mr. Kyle place his hands on his hips as his face turns red, I think it might be a little of both.

“Because there’s no way Kayleen divorced our son. I don’t understand why we are here and not with our granddaughter.”

“Because she’s not mine,” Cam growls. “Kay isn’t my wife and her daughter isn’t mine. If you’re not here to meet my sons or introduce yourself properly to my fiancée, you can go.”

“What’s your name?” his mother asks with tears in her eyes.

“Maribel. Cam calls me by my middle name Amina.”

“It’s nice to meet you. These little ones are darling. I’m sorry. I’m just a bit in shock.”

“I can understand.”

Mr. Kyle snorts. “Ever gracious. You did well, Cam.”

“Who are you?” Cam and his mom say in unison.

Cam seems amused, but his mother’s face has turned red. She huffs and comes to take Cade from my arms. He whimpers, but she begins to sing to him in a pretty voice that calms him right down.

Well, my in-laws will be interesting.
