Chapter Fifty-One

Josh

“Really?” I croak.

I’m sure that it kind of sounds like I’m disappointed. But nothing could be further from the truth. It’s a blessing. I only got the vasectomy to avoid procreating. I was terrified I’d create mini-Zoes because I might be just like her deep inside.

But being with Klein has shown me that that isn’t the case at all. I’m my own person—and a Huxley.

“Uh-huh,” she says, peering intently at me.

I place a reverent hand over her belly. “Our babies.”

“Yeah. Two of ’em.”

I run a hand over my mouth. “I’m going to be a father.”

“Twice over.” She smiles.

I embrace her. “Thank you.”

She relaxes in my arms. “My pleasure. I’m glad. I was worried that you might not be excited.”

“Are you kidding? We’re creating a couple of mini-yous. I can’t wait.”

She laughs. “They might end up more like you.”

“Doesn’t matter. Our babies will be beautiful, just like their mother.” I kiss her. “Ai-chan.”

She blinks up at me. “Hmm?”

“Ai-chan—my sweet little love. I finally feel like I’ve earned the right to call you that.”

Her shining eyes soften. “You always had the right to call me that, Joshua Huxley.”
