Nix
“How does he do that?” Nix asked in wonder. Like come on, Luka was a big guy, much bigger than Nix and his brothers, and yet Luka was the only one that actually managed to stay upright on a surfboard.
“He loves the water,” Gem said. “Of course he knows how to surf.”
“I like the water,” Aries said. “And I still can’t do it.”
Gem shook his head. “No. Luka loves the water.”
Nix huffed. Really it wasn’t fair. This was supposed to be fun but he sucked at surfing!
Aries and Gem weren’t much better than he was.
Gem wasn’t big on water most of the time anyway, so Nix wasn’t even sure how hard he had even tried.
Zany had outright refused to even get into the water while Vin and Evan were content to sit under their umbrellas, relaxing.
With Robbs, Marlin, Thomas, and Lithis out fishing for the day, which was the activity they’d picked to do, Nix had really been hoping that after a few quick surfing tips from the instructor that he could show off. That wasn’t going to happen.

“It’s true!” Aries cackled. “I’m just better at hockey than you are!”

“Stop,” Gem snapped. “Behave the both of you.”
Slowly Nix turned to face Gem. Gem was still standing on the shore, clapping for Luka. Nix was pretty sure with how far Luka was out that he couldn’t even hear Gem, not that that little detail mattered to Gem. It was kind of sweet. Although Gem was only being sweet to his boy and not his brothers.
“He didn’t just say that,” Nix whispered to Aries.
“I think he did.”

“I don’t know what you’re thinking about doing but I would advise against it.”

Evan laughed as he picked Nix up.

“I guess you’ll have to show me then.”

“They’re acting weird,” Aries said. He couldn’t be the only one that noticed it.
Vin nodded. “Let’s let them work it out.”

Aries glanced over. “You’re not going?”
“Zany doesn’t like water,” Robbs said with a shrug. “We’re going to visit a volcano crater. And have lunch.”

“We’d love to have you!” Zany said. “Robbs said we can do some shopping after lunch. Maybe we could find some new toys to play with.”

“No more than three apples,” Vin declared.
“Three apples,” Robbs agreed.
Luka was sure that no one really believed that Robbs would keep that deal. What amazed him was that no one was making fun of Aries or mad that he was changing the plan at the last moment.
Luka’s father and siblings would be making fun of Aries.
Did any of them think that there would be sharks? No. That didn’t mean that it wasn’t a concern for Aries.
Because these men loved Aries, they accepted him. Hell, they accepted each other without questions.
Aries could be little and play with toys as they all hung out and no one batted an eye. Nix’s hands were tied as he sat on Evan’s lap. Even Robbs and Zany were sitting closer to each other than needed.
There was acceptance here.
