Chapter 19

NINETEEN

SUMMER

Placing my hands on the edge of the dock, I hoist myself out of the water, and Indy pulls at my shoulders. Scrambling back, she pulls me on top of her, pressing her lips to mine, and I can’t help my smile when she moans loud and long.

“I need you to sit on my face,” she whispers as I mark her with kisses. Leaning back, I look down at her. Her dark braids are spilled across the old wooden boards of the dock, face flushed from what I just did. “Please.”

“I do so love it when you blush,” I admit, standing so I can pull my soggy underwear off.

She licks her lips when I’m naked, eyes roaming over my body as if categorizing every inch.

Dropping down to one knee, she doesn’t let me check to make sure she’s okay before her hands are on my ass and she’s pulling me over her mouth.

She wastes no time, her tongue parts my pussy and she swipes her tongue through me.

Fuck.

It’s been a while, and I’m not used to someone else taking control.

Moving my hips against her mouth, she moans into my cunt and I bring her hands up to my tits. She squeezes and kneads, pinching my nipples so hard I might come before I’m ready for this to be over.

Her hand roams down my stomach, taking care to outline the muscles there before she’s slipping her hand over my hip to squeeze my ass. Her mouth moves against my clit as she licks and sucks.

Looking up, I bite my lip and fall over the edge as she continues lapping at me while I grind into her mouth. “Yes, Indy, God yes.”

Falling over beside her, I turn my head to look at her. She’s smiling over at me, and my chest tightens. Indy’s the type of woman I could absolutely fall in love with.

But if she knew…

“What just went through your head?” She asks, eyes roaming over my face as she props herself up on an elbow, fiddling to right her dress.

“That was amazing,” I smile, pulling her down to me. My lips brush hers and she leans back, but doesn’t say anything, only looks at me like she can see through me and my avoidance of her question.

We stay like that for a little over an hour, sunning in the bright summer heat together, until Indy sits up and gets to her feet.

Stripping off her dress, she’s left in nothing but her skin, and I’m stuck watching after her as she jumps into the lake and floats.

Her perfect tits on display, water sloshing over her body… I could watch her like this for hours.

She’s so at peace, and I envy it.

After a while, she swims to the shore and walks out. Coming over to me, she sits down on the dock and lets the warm air dry her skin before she slips her dress back on.

“Are you hungry?” She asks, and I growl in response. She laughs and swats my arm, “Not for that.”

“I’m content to lay here a little longer,” I tell her, blocking the sun from my eyes when she stands.

“I’m gonna go get some snacks.”

Before I can protest, she’s headed back to her cabin I’m guessing, and she doesn’t waste any time either. She’s back in a blink with a bag of cheese crackers and some peanut butter.

“You aren’t allergic, are you?” She asks as she digs into the jar.

“No, I’m not allergic,” I laugh, taking the cheese crackers and eating them two at a time. I guess I’m a little hungry after all, because before I know it, the whole bag’s gone and my hand hits the bottom of the plastic.

Her phone rings, the shrill tone interrupting the tension brewing between us. Patting her dress, she pulls it out of one of the pockets and answers, all professional like.

“Wait, River,” she says, sitting up and getting to her feet. “You’re talkin’ too fast.” Her voice sounds calm, but her face betrays her. “Slow down.”

“What’s happening?” I ask, desperate for answers but she just looks up at me, panic in her eyes.

“I’ll be right there,” she promises before hanging up, as if we aren’t in the middle of our date. “River says someone found Finn’s things in the woods.”

“Okay?” I’m confused.

“There was blood on it.”

“When you say his stuff, do you mean like a shirt, or?” I ask, trying to stay practical.

“I don’t have time to debate this with you, are you comin’ or not?” She’s already walking away and I’m still very naked. Pulling on my pants, sans underwear, I pull on my bra and shirt followed by my shoes.

“I’m sure everything’s fine,” I tell her, catching up outside of her cabin. “Didn’t he quit?”

“Over text, what if it wasn’t really him?” She runs her hands through her hair and takes a few deep breaths. “Oh, fuck me, this cannot be happening.”

Grabbing her hands, I slowly move them down to her sides. “I’m sure there’s a logical explanation.”

She nods and gets into her truck, nodding for me to get into my Jeep. “I don’t know how long this will take… It could be nothing, but if it’s not…”

Understanding dawns, and I send her on her way with a wave, watching until her truck’s not visible anymore.

A new flock of campers are seated in the mess hall when I arrive a little later, and I’m starting to wonder if Indy and River are going to show up soon, or if things with Finn’s belongings really have become that serious.

I’m greeted by Santi and Kiri. “Do you know what’s goin’ on?”

“Yeah, earlier we saw the boss lady hightail it out of here in her truck and she still isn’t back. River too…”

“Finn’s missing, and his stuff was found on one of the trails today by River and one of the Harris’s.” Kiri’s eyes are wide, but I can tell she’s trying not to let this bother her. Santi on the other hand is frantic, flailing his hands everywhere as he talks.

“Try not scaring the kids, alright?” I warn, “we don’t know what’s going on yet.”

“Then where’s Indy?” Kiri asks, picking at the skin around her nails.

“I’m sure it’s nothing, or hell, maybe even a stupid prank,” I offer, but something about it makes me feel uneasy. “I’ll stay here, just in case,” I tell them, since it’s clear we’re not being joined by the two leaders of the camp.

Her parent’s buggy comes up the path from their house with Mr. Harris, and the woman that must be his wife. Jarrett, the young guy from the barn, walks over and stands beside us.

“Any idea what’s goin’ on?” He asks, crossing his arms and watching the kids with a sharp eye.

“I was kind of hoping you did,” I admit, since one of the Harris’s saw the “stuff” in question.

“That hurts my feelin’s, Red.” He jokes, pulling a toothpick from his mouth. “You act like all I do is gossip.”

Rolling my eyes, I shake my head. “I don’t know you enough to insinuate that.”

“And yet, you did,” he cracks, making Santi laugh. “I’ve been out at my brother’s farm today. Just got back.”

“I guess we’ll have to wait until Indy and River can tell us,” I shrug. “Let's get these kids fed and then into their bunks.”

Jarrett claps his hands and smiles, “I like the way you think.”

After a delicious dinner, courtesy of Mrs. Turner, we played a few games of charades and then tucked all the kids into their bunks. Some were a little nervous with it being their first time here.

Indy hasn’t responded to my texts, and I have half a mind to head to her cabin, but think better of it. It’s late, and I’m sure whatever she had to deal with was enough to tucker her out.

My cabin doesn’t sound that appealing, being empty and all, but I head that way and walk to the small bathroom that’s been a blessing to have to myself. Flipping the lights on, the mirror catches my eye.

The lettering’s done in red, whatever they used dripping onto the white porcelain sink, and it may just be my mind playing tricks on me but it almost smells coppery.

Grabbing a towel and running it under the hottest water I can stand, I wipe the mirror off. I thought whoever it was had found something better to do.

I’ve been wrong before.
